11 days away from D1 FBS College Football ... are you ready ?

Aug. 29th., it will be the battle of the Carolina's to get this '13 year rolling.

North -vs- #6 South

Ohio State will not have Carlos Hyde starting for when they play against Buffalo on August 31 because of suspension. Add two more names to that list from this past week with two more suspensions- CB Bradley Roby and RB Rod Smith. I'm sure Ohio State still will have no problem with Buffalo when they come to Buckeye Stadium on August 31.

OSU should be just fine. It's a cupcake game ... no big deal. Well, it should be / better be a cupcake game, just saying this to be safe. Things do happen in College Football 'ya know. :nervous:

* gaming side note, slight off topic *
If playing NCAA '14 is a premonition ... then The OSU Buckeyes will beat 'Bama in the BCS National Championship game by a score of 41-24. 💡

I don't follow football as much as most of you do in here, but at least during the season, I like to keep an eyes on my Washington Huskies. Hopefully we put in a better season than last year.

Go Dawgs!

Washington may actually be a surprise team according to stuff I've heard and read. I don't think they'll make too much noise in the Pac-12 this season, but they are a team not to overlook.

The Washington Huskies .....

This team puts me so much in mind of Purdue. They are both what I refer to as sleeper teams. One never knows which team will show up on game day. Will the dominant force show up, or will the cheerleaders dawn the uniform ? Washington and Purdue - two teams you don't put $$$ on, b/c they will usually burn you.

I think that the Huskies can rattle out there in the PAC12, but I'm not so sure if they can roll .... best of luck to your Huskies this year Crash. I'll add your name in the OP as a Washington Huskies fan also.

I believe this will be Washington's schedule this season:

--- University of Washington 2013 Schedule ---
Aug. 31: Boise State
Sep. 14: at Illinois
Sep. 21: Idaho State
Sep. 28: Arizona
Oct. 5: at Stanford
Oct. 12: Oregon
Oct. 19: at Arizona State
Oct. 26: California
Nov. 9: Colorado
Nov. 15: at UCLA
Nov. 23: at Oregon State
Nov. 29: Washington State (Apple Cup rivalry)

I think Washington will get run over by some of the better Pac-12 teams. I do think they'll finish with a winning record and probably play in a pretty good December or non-BCS January Bowl. So I'm hopeful for Washington in the Pac-12.

From a Washington standpoint, that schedule looks brutal.

Question time :

How about Notre Dame ?
Was last year a fluke ?
Can they make a legitimate run at it again ?
Monte is gone, but defensively, they are remaining relatively strong.
Offensively - they took a big hit. The Everett Golson deal, him getting banned from N.D. for a semester due to claimed "poor academic judgment". ( LINK ).
Does anyone really know what went down with Golson ?

The Irish schedule for '13

Aug. 31 Temple (H)
Sept. 7 Michigan (A)
Sept. 14 Purdue (A)
Sept. 21 Michigan State (H)
Sept. 28 Oklahoma (H)
Oct. 5 Arizona State (being played in Texas ? )(A)
Oct. 19 USC (H)
Oct. 26 Air Force (A)
Nov. 2 Navy (H)
Nov. 9 Pitt (A)
Nov. 23 BYU (H)
Nov. 30 Stanford (A)

Personally, I see a tough road ahead for the Irish this year. We'll see, you never know.

I don't see how any schedule this year is as hard as Boise State's, I mean to open up the season with a game like this is just brutal

The countdown is commencing ... we are now 4 days away from kicking off the '13 season.

Are 'ya ready ?

One good thing about Week One is that I'm pretty much guaranteed to get to watch my favorite team (USC) play, since ESPN has nothing else to show at Midnight besides reruns of LA Sportscenter

What you mentioned is exactly their problem. They could be looking great and on a multiple game winning streak, then next week just completely fall flat as if everyone's on vacation. I guess I'm hopeful that we'll have at least a winning record again this year.

Bring on the first game against Boise State this coming week. If only the Redskins played as the Huskies...

3 .....

Bring on the first game against Boise State this coming week.

With you being a Huskies fan, I'm sure you would love nothing more than seeing them knock off #19 Boise State in week #1. That would be a great start for you. It can happen. 👍

Two games interest me this weekend: #5 Georgia at #8 Clemson and #1 Alabama at Virginia Tech.

Some people are thinking upset when Alabama heads to Virginia Tech. I think Alabama is going to win this game regardless. However, VT is a big deal. You are NOT going to go up to Virginia Tech and not be in for the fight of your life when you play the Hokies in their house. I don't think Alabama at VT is going to be like when Texas A&M came into Alabama last season (we all know who won that one).

Now on to Georgia at Clemson. Georgia's got to win this one to solidify themselves a threat. LSU will obviously take offense to me calling Clemson as Death Valley, but Clemson is a tough place to play at. This one could be close unless either team just doesn't show up.

Only other game I see interesting is the North Carolina at #6 South Carolina game. I know CAM would love seeing UNC get cremated by the Gamecocks. College football. Got to love it.

The way I understand it, the NCAA didn't have any evidence that Johnny Manziel didn't take any money from the autograph thing. So he only gets (essentially) a slap on the wrist suspension. One person suggested Manziel should probably get a two-game suspension, which would still give him a chance to start for when TAMU hosts Alabama. Or in the words of Yahoo! Sports Pat Forde regarding the suspension, "...the NCAA again shows it has no teeth": http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ncaaf--ncaa-johnny-manziel-half-game-suspension-220832994.html

A half-game suspension is pretty ludicrous compared to harsher suspensions, but I don't really know what to make of this whole deal suspension-wise.

Dez Bryant got suspended 1 year for lying about having a dinner with Deion Sanders. There was nothing wrong with having the dinner with him, they just didnt like that he lied about it.

And Manziel gets 1/2 a game?

College football is back! ...or at least for most of the NCAA besides Division 2, which usually starts before everyone else. Can't wait for the new season to kick off!

And of course... good luck to all of your teams this weekend and this season.

How do you suspend someone for half a game? That's completely stupid. Does Manziel start or does he come in the 2nd half? College football is such a joke.

My guess is that Johnny Manziel will miss out on the first half of the game between Rice at Texas A&M. Oh, darn... Johnny Football doesn't get to hang at least three touchdowns on Rice after 30 minutes! This situation basically makes Johnny Football the closer for Texas A&M once his *suspension* is over.

Maybe Kansas will have a bad season. But, they could also surprise, overachieve, and even be an under-the-radar team. You never know how a season can play out. Here's Kansas' schedule (courtesy: ESPN):

--- Kansas 2013 Schedule ---
Sep. 7: South Dakota
Sep. 14: at Rice
Sep. 21: Louisiana Tech
Oct. 5: Texas Tech
Oct. 12: at #20 TCU
Oct. 19: Oklahoma
Oct. 26: Baylor
Nov. 2: at #15 Texas
Nov. 9: at #13 Oklahoma State
Nov. 16: West Virginia
Nov. 23: at Iowa State
Nov. 30: Kansas State

Wow... at Texas and at Oklahoma State in two straight weekends. 0-2 is very likely right there! Jayhawk Nation... make the most of this season. This will pretty much be a bumpy ride for you all.

I shudder at the prospect of how utterly god-awful my Jayhawks will be. :nervous:

It's not horrible, but it's not great. I think you may see a Bowl game at the end of it all. 👍

--- Kansas 2013 Schedule ---
Sep. 7: South Dakota
Sep. 14: at Rice
Sep. 21: Louisiana Tech
Oct. 5: Texas Tech
Oct. 12: at #20 TCU
Oct. 19: Oklahoma
Oct. 26: Baylor
Nov. 2: at #15 Texas
Nov. 9: at #13 Oklahoma State
Nov. 16: West Virginia
Nov. 23: at Iowa State
Nov. 30: Kansas State

Another tough one here (I think). Thinking John was being nice when he said 0-2 about #15 Texas and then #13 Oklahoma State. I hate to say it, but I think I see a bigger stretch here. I see "possibly" an 0-5 run here. Starting with the Oct. 12th meeting with TCU and going through the 16th of Nov. with the meeting of West Virginia. Well, maybe 1-4, beating Baylor could be on your side. Overall, possibly a 6-6 season, maybe 7-5 is feasible. Either way, 6-6 or 7-5 gets you a Bowl bid. 👍 Best of luck to your Jayhawks in the '13 season.

High-Test, I'll add your name to the OP as a Kansas Jayhawks fan.

Edit : #6 South Carolina 27 - North Carolina 10 .... game is in a delay (4th quarter).

Later on this evening, #24 USC battles Hawaii. Good luck to Jahgee's Trojans. 👍

Even though UConn is unranked, I thought they were favored to win ... comfortably.

Final in the Carolina border war: #6 South Carolina defeats North Carolina 27-10. This should make dcgc5 happy. 👍

**** you CBS, how dare you pick up USC-Hawaii, now i'm ****ing stuck watching Vanderbuilt-Ole Miss because i don't have the sports package!
