Just now, a Penn State player was called for Targeting and was ejected. The guy looked to whack a Michigan receiver in the head with his shoulder, but it didn't look like he had any malicious intent on the hit. The Targeting process can be extremely flawed.

I may return to this post to share a few more musings on the weekend of college football.

I was literally going to post that. What a god awful call regarding the targeting rule. It's terrible calls like that one there that cheapen the rule.

Going for a pick and inadvertently hitting an opposing player isn't even close to the intent of the targeting rule. Completely the wrong decision.

For comparison, I've seen hard fouls in basketball that could justify being called Flagrant or Unsportsmanlike. Some such fouls can actually be seen as Flagrant, or at least good hard fouls. It almost seems like the refs can't tell what a real hit that could lead to an ejection is. So if you're going to call Targeting, at least think about what you can legitimately consider Targeting. That Penn State player shouldn't have been ejected because his hit wasn't THAT malicious.

Here are some musings of mine...

* What the heck happened in Oxford, MS? Did #12 Georgia and #23 Ole Miss swap uniforms? The Rebels completely whacked the Georgia Bulldogs. How bad? Try 45-14.

* The #14 ranked University of Tennessee took good care of their #19 Florida rivals with a 38-28 victory at home. I didn't like those gray uniforms with the orange accents, though.

* Speaking of Florida, a Florida team would win between Florida State and South Florida. But WHICH Florida team? It was #13 Florida State winning 55-35. The USF Bulls didn't have such a happy time hosting the Seminoles in Tampa.

* Despite a pathetic Targeting call that took one Penn State player out of the game, #4 Michigan still rolled to a 49-10 victory in "The Big House."

* Is it rock bottom if you lose to Duke in football? Maybe if you're Notre Dame. Duke won 38-35 at Notre dame.

* North Carolina took down Pittsburgh 37-36 in Chapel Hill.

* Sixty minutes and four quarters weren't enough to settle Vanderbilt at Western Kentucky. One Overtime session was needed for Vandy to escape WKU with a 31-30 win.

* After Iowa's loss to North Dakota State, they bounced back with a 14-7 victory at Rutgers. Remember the guy who called North Dakota State "Roast Beef Tech?" Well, (he) said that he wasn't an Iowa hater but hates posers. He... okay, Colin Cowherd... talked about how Iowa scheduled a certain group of opponents just to get the fame and glory, thus making the Hawkeyes posers. This commentary stems from a YouTube video I saw earlier today.

Those are my latest musings on college football so far this week.

[UPDATE] ANOTHER Targeting call was made in a game just now. A Marshall player was called for Kick Catch Interference, but then got called for Targeting. He led with the crown of his helmet and went for the shoulder of a Louisville punt returner. And... the guy got ejected after review. It should have been just Kick Catch Interference, but it wasn't. Shame with this rule. I understand Targeting, but if you're going to call it, at least call it in a proper situation. Just saying.

Les Miles canned? I read Notre Dame fired their Defensive Coordinator for their slow start. Maybe this is certain teams probably waiving the white flag on the season or making early drastic changes. And yes... looking at FOX Sports 1's bottom line, Les Miles surely got fired. Tough times for the LSU Tigers.

Just about all teams will be playing conference matches the rest of the way (unless you're an Independent, of course). There is no greater satisfaction than being able to defeat teams within your conference. Most of the conference matches are tests of teams on your level or maybe above or below your level. This week has some pretty good matches coming up. Here are a few I looked up:

* #7 Stanford at #10 Washington
* #8 Wisconsin at #4 Michigan
* #3 Louisville at #5 Clemson (My "GAME OF THE WEEK," both teams 4-0)
* #11 Tennessee at #25 Georgia

I was looking up the standings of NCAA FBS teams so far. A few of them surprise me as to the ones who have one loss or no losses. Army is one of them. Yes- this is NOT a typo or a joke. Army is 3-1. They defeated Temple, Rice, and UTEP. They lost to Buffalo this past weekend, and their next game is at Duke. Western Michigan and Toledo are undefeated at 4-0 and 3-0 respectively. Navy and Air Force will clash this weekend at Navy. Both of these Service Academies are undefeated. Utah and Arizona State are both 4-0, and Colorado is 3-1 after a big win at Oregon. Georgia Southern and Troy are both looking good at 3-1 each.

That's all for this post. Enjoy this week's games, and good luck to all of your teams.

It was announced earlier today that the ACC Championship game was moved from Charlotte to Orlando. Most of this stemmed from the controversial LGBT-unfriendly House Bill 2 in North Carolina.

Enjoy some college football this weekend, starting tonight with games like Connecticut at Houston and Kansas at Texas Tech among others.

Rutgers LB Greg Jones got taken to the hospital after taking two hits to the head on the same play. He was carted off the field and transferred to ambulance right away. Early reports say that he was talking and also had movement in his extremities.

I certainly hope Greg Jones will be alright. Ohio State ran over Rutgers today, and I read this is the 5th shutout of 50+ points under Urban Meyer's coaching. This is either good coaching or inferior opposition.

With a 31 to 10 win over Illinois State today, the Bison are

:eek:

Two words- Hail Mary. Tennessee was going to be upset by Georgia until Tennessee pulled off an exciting Hail Mary pass to remain undefeated. Georgia was ahead for most of this contest. I'm pretty sure our tbwhhs was like, "how the 🤬 did we pull this one off?" So far, so good for the Vols. If you're going to preserve an unbeaten status, this was one wild way to make it happen! All congratulations to Tennessee. Same goes for the win by #4 Michigan hosting #8 Wisconsin.

As of this post, #3 Louisville at #5 Clemson is still on deck. But man... what a finish between Tennessee at Georgia! Just another day of SEC Football...

[OMISSION] Tennessee won 34-31 at Georgia.

Michigan-Wisconsin was a good one. Special teams needs to show up though because that was 3 missed field goals that could have potentially been big. 14-7 Michigan.

That sums it up pretty well.

Though, I'm sure that from a neutral view that was an exciting game to watch.

RECENTLY WRAPPED UP...

The University of California handed Utah their first loss of the season with a 28-23 victory in Berkley, CA. The Bay Area wasn't too friendly to the boys from Salt Lake City. Golden Bears top the Utes.

I'm sorry... did the College Football Playoff start already? #3 Clemson and #5 Louisville were anticipated to go blow for blow, and this one didn't disappoint. Louisville sure made a game of it after Clemson pulled ahead early. There's no shame losing to Clemson to be honest. The Clemson Tigers defeated the Louisville Cardinals 42-36 tonight. It was a great game.

How are you all liking the 2016 season so far?

The most intriguing match this week is between #9 Tennessee at #8 Texas A&M. Both teams are 5-0. The Volunteers have reached a pretty shaky part of the schedule. After at Texas A&M, they'll host Alabama, and play at South Carolina after a week off from the Alabama game. The Vols' schedule will mostly be easy peasy the rest of the way. Both Tennessee and Texas A&M lead their respective divisions of the SEC. With the game in College Station and with the 12th Man Advantage, the Aggies could hand Tennessee their first loss of the season this Saturday afternoon. It is NOT easy playing at Texas A&M.

A few other intriguing matches include #6 Houston at Navy and the Red River Rivalry- Texas vs. #20 Oklahoma. By the way, keep an eye on #21 Colorado. They'll be at USCal. The Buffaloes are 4-1 on the season. Their only loss so far was at Michigan. Speaking of Michigan, they'll be at Blitz24's beloved Rutgers University this Saturday night. #5 Washington will entertain the Oregon Ducks in Eugene, OR.

There was one note I forgot to mention last week. I think I read the University of Miami went into their game at Georgia Tech by wearing stickers honoring the late pitcher José Fernandez of Major League Baseball's Miami Marlins. Miami ended up winning 35-21. Great gesture by the Hurricanes.

Plenty of games... and potentially plenty more insanity. Go enjoy some college football. Good luck to all of your teams.

Saturdays LSU at Florida game has been postponed. No make up date was announced or even if it will be made up. Even though LSU offered to host the game this weekend and had already reserved hotel rooms in New Orleans and Baton Rouge and use of their plane.

If there is no make up it could create a mess for the SEC in regards to who plays in the SEC Championship Game. Because if Florida was to win its remaining conference games and finish 6-1 in the league, and Tennessee was to lose its next 2 vs teams from the west division and win its last 4 vs teams from the east. Florida would represent the Eastern Division in the SEC Championship Game because the conference rules say that the standings are placed by winning percentage.

A lot of other games could be affected by Hurricane Matthew. I saw a graphic on ESPN during the Temple at Memphis game of some of the other games and the status of those matches. I surely hope everybody will be okay in the wake of Hurricane Matthew.

The fans at the ND/NC ST game are absolute troopers. It's absolutely pouring there and the stands are still packed.

Yeah, it's a rainy mess at NC State.

Meanwhile in Dallas, Texas leads #20 Oklahoma 10-7 with inside of 9 minutes left in the 2nd Quarter. A blatant Pass Interference foul by Texas was not called by the refs. Texas ended up picking off OU but ended up with only three points. Bad calls can screw over teams like you won't believe.

This hurts me to say this, but...

DOWN GOES HOUSTON!

Play as sloppy as the rainy conditions led my #6 Houston Cougars to lose 46-40 at Navy. It's Navy's first win over a Top 10 team since beating #2 South Carolina in 1984. I didn't have UH going unbeaten anyways. But still, sucks when you take a loss like this. This is only the second loss for UH under coach Tom Hernan. Houston's would-be playoff chances may be pretty much dashed.

Also just wrapped up... #25 Virginia Tech rolls into #17 North Carolina and beat them down like it was nothing- 34-3.

Congratulations to all other winners from this week.
