Oh gawd. Here I am, back from a weekend at the international festival of beer - stumbled out of Pauls Metal Bar at bright daylight this morning... Urks! If my car seems to be weaving on the straights this one time its not the setup, its the driver...

Sorry for short notice but I won't be making the first race. Apologies :ill:

No worries

We are joined by 2 very fast dudes tonight...don't say I did not warn you :scared:

Fun, fun. Welcome new guys.

Fun races, collision detection still sucks though.

GO team US2A.

Yeah well, I wish I could say I had fun tonight too (and actually I still had some thanks to y all) but this game really starts to get on my nerves big time.

Why the hell did I waste time tuning my S3 and a whole evening of Z4 tuning with Rommie just to find those cars limped by some horrible BS-tunes on raceday?!? Why do collisions still suck so goddamn much?!? Why the freezes... I m so tired of all that ****e! RANT OVER! :ouch:

PS: That steve182rs dude is the stig, now I m sure. He was faster than possible to known mankind and he didnt say a word all evening long. I say greeting to our new racing overlord! :nervous:

The S3 cannot compete with some of the other cars on straits. Not sure what is wrong with the Z4 though.

Vaxx, the brake pressure was far too low and I had no grip on both cars, the S3 redlined on the straight and the Z4 was shaking his rear like a bavarian Shakira.

Its a bug, sometimes your tunes dont "stick" to the car and you get some BS with unknown origin instead.

Also why the hell is the S3 so much slower than the others despite having the best stats?!?

Where did you find the ringer/teammate Texas? Wow, Steveo just checked out in that last race. Is he also using a DS3 - if so Im selling my wheel :)

That sucks. If the tunes dont stick...Id be screwed as well.

S3 is great...on a curvy track. Too many faster cars on fast tracks. The Skyline can eat the s3 for lunch.

With my tune on the Z4 I was supposed to maintain a 1:26 (considering my extensive testing) laptimes at oschel****blah instead I've done 5 1:27s and 2 1:26 and the 1st 3 ****** laps :D

Not good enough for that 1:25 of steve although i never stopped seeing him and Vaxx (if my memory is OK)

Anyway, this was because of the gearing and I THINK the LSD. The rest of the car seemed OK to me.

After 3 restarts in Nurburgring Sprint Short avoiding collisions (with others  ) I got one that sent me near last (then spun and stayed last) but I still managed to get to 5th so I'm DA MAN and that's final

The RTR-X is a POS and my bad tune made it worse. Yesterday i managed to pass the tunel ONCE without hitting the magnet walls... the rest we all know how it went. 10 more seconds and I would be lapped.

Another bug that made me crash was seeing Zeeko a mile away and the next second right in front of me... my emergency "stop" was at the wall... funny thing is I thought he was in front but now I'm wondering if he was even there :S

Anyway, I'm only sorry that Texas gets disconnected so much. It got me a 3rd place in the GT3 race though

Results of Round 1 in 3rd post on page 1

I will give you guys a breakdown of how my evening of racing went last night;

Race 1:

After the initial hickups, when we finally got going, I was on pole position (pure luck). I knew my R32 was not going to be fast enough to get me ahead at the first corner, so I tried to hold the driving line as best as I could. Entered corner one in third place and got rammed. Left corner two in last place and stayed there till the end.

Race 2

Started 3rd on the grid. Had a good setup for the Aston and managed to enter corner one in second position. Got rammed. Managed to make it to corner 4 in 5th place, got rammed again and l rejoined in last place. Passed a 2 car pile up on lap 4 just as they joined the race. Got rammed again ending up second from the back. Three laps later (lap 7) wiped off again. So I just coasted slowly to the finish line.

Race 3

Started at the back this time and carefully passed the expected pile up in the tunnel. On exit was 2nd place. Got rammed on turn 3...joined in 4th place. Stayed there for one lap. Got rammed again exiting the tunnel...rejoined in last place. At this point I parked my car and waited for you guys to finish the last 5 laps.

So guys as you can imagine I did not enjoy the racing last night. The idea is clean and fair racing (as stated in the OP). Well it was neither of the two. This series is going to come to an abrupt end unless we can resolve the issues that surfaced last night :grumpy:

Zecco, I know how you feel. I myself didn't have a terrible night - I was only rammed once or twice. One of those was in the GT3 race while I was running 3rd or 4th - on the first lap halfway around the track. There was plenty of time to pick and choose a good passing point.

Regarding your "...wiped off again..." in race 2, lap 7 - that may have been me. As stated above, that is the race I was rammed and sent to the back. I had a good race with you then for a few laps but your car (to me) was teleporting every once in a while. I would be following you by a good margin, then all of a sudden I was on your bumper. At one point, you disappeared for a second, then appeared right along side my car (at end of front straight). I didn't feel much but wondered if there was enough contact to spin you. I couldn't have done anything different.

There are times patience seems to be a lost art. The other problem is that if everyone waits too long to make a move the front row starters have the race to themselves. I don't know if anything can be done as I "think" most incidents are related to collision detection, at least I hope so.

It's really too bad as while I enjoy S2U offline I look forward to online racing for a sociable event.

I've felt this a lot in races. One minute, you want to be so clean and you find out that there isn't the room to make good passes without the person in front messing up. The minute you try to make a risky pass, one or both players get smashed up. We don't the luxury or unrealistic drafting like the "other" game. I have considered to just take part in the Porsche series only because I only have to hold connection for 2 minutes or so . We'll see how Round 2 goes...

Zeeco, we didn't try the rolling start that we did the final round of Legends. It did turn out a little sloppy the first time, but it did reduce the number of wrecks. Now that we're using shorter tracks, we could try to do a full lap devoted to the rolling start. That'll eliminate awkward locations to start the race and create a more organized race. It's something that could be in the OP as well.

I do have to say last Sunday I saw more ramming than all of the Legends races. I also have to say I have never, ever, seen cars "warp" like they did either. Chalk it up to real bad lag and detection?

I got knocked off the road in the first race (before the real restart) 4 times. The second race only once, but I took a corner bad, and there was nothing Steve could do to aviod me.

The last race, I am one of the guilty party's that hit you Zee. 2-3 laps in after the tunnel on the left curve uphill I was carrying too much speed, and hit your back end. I ended up facing the wrong way, and not sure what happened to you.

I have seen on many online races the biggest issue with crashes is down to ONE thing....awarness. Sometimes you get into tunnel vision and dont pay attention to what (or who) is around you. I have seen two cars at the start go side by side then the car just a LITTLE ahead turns right into the other. It happens quite a bit. Here are just MY tips:

1. I know lots of people hate using the look left/right buttons, but a QUICK look shouldnt be too much of a distraction.

2. Use the look back button a LOT. Took a corner wrong? Know you lost some speed? Look back and see where the person behind you is now. Most likely on your butt or about to pass. Pick a line and stick with it. I hit the look back button so often I can probably drive all the tracks in reverse.

3. Look at the top left corner and see how many seconds or .001 seconds the car behind you is. If they are CLOSE and you dont see them in your "look back" chances are they are beside you. Look at the corner coming up, and decide what side they are most likely on, and be ready to make a clean line to give them a chance in the corner as well.

4. Listen to the sounds. I can tell where a car is usually just by the sound of the car relative to mine. Not everyone uses surround, but if you do it helps.

5. You are gaining on a car. Dont assume they know that. Pick your chance to pass but keep in your mind the chance they dont know you are passing and be ready for a quick move. Also if you ARE right on their butt, be patient with it. Choose a portion of the track you know you are faster on to overtake.

We really shouldnt have to go the extra mile to make a risky pass, but sadly the collision detection sucks, and we have to deal with what we are given. I am sure we would see more close battles if it wasnt for that big issue.

Also, Tex's suggestion is rather good. A formation lap would help quite a bit I think. We could even go further and do a 5 min time attack (qualify) lap to pick the positions before the race, and get into them during the formation lap.

Just some thoughts. I love this series and look forward to the races every Sunday. I dont want them to end.

Zee, I m sorry that you had so many troubles in those races. I wondered all the time whose parked Stang it was at Ambush. :ill:

Normally I get into a lot of collisions during races, I think I m a candidate of the tunnel vision syndrome Vaxx wrote about. I get that effect a lot in Shift 2. But I noticed one thing that makes it extra hard to avoid collisions when you re in front: Sometimes you dont see the car behind you in the rearview mirror, only its shadow on the ground. I had that effect when Rommie chased my sluggy S3 round Nürburgring.

I also dont think it was deliberate ramming on Sunday but extreme connection/lag problems. I saw people jumping/teleporting/stuttering around in front of me all the time, too. A lot more than during the legends races. I had only one encounter where I think I was deliberately rammed, at Oschersleben. The other collisions I had were imho unavoidable... 3 times I couldnt stop in time when people in front of me spun or crashed, Rommie hit me in the back cause my S3 was so slow at the straights. And of course I hit steve182rs at Nürburgring but that was for the lack of brake pressure bug. Sorry again, dear white helmeted overlord!

Also please keep in mind that Oschersleben and Ambush are both very narrow, either the whole track or in places, which makes collisions more likely.

I think track selection will be key to having a chance for some clean racing. Ambush is a fun track but it's all corners - most fast. It is very hard to setup for a pass - get too close and you take the chance of ramming. We know we have a problem if we have multiple wrecks with a rolling start (Nordschleife) - anxious racers and lag.
In the virtual world it is all about winning at all cost (offline racing conditioning), in real life racers don't take unnecessary chances because of the consequences.
We can overcome the anxiousness and learn online racing etiquette but the lag is a physical limitation that we have no control over. New racers to the group should be informed of the "gentleman approach" to our online racing and the lag problem. The rest of us still have some learning also - finishing 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. is not a bad thing - especially if we are not "clearly" faster or don't have a good clean line to improve our position.
Also, we have to remember that the racer in front of us may be slow/slowing not because "he" is slow it may be that they are giving the racer ahead of them room.

I drove pretty much by myself all the time except at the 4rd try in 1st race which got me next to last place as I explained above.

All my other problems were driver error crashing against some wall

I can tell from past experiences until now that I can drive pretty close to someone without hitting. The only time that collision detection failed on me was on Spa when I hit JogoAsobi and its explained in the Legends thread.

Now, I have IDs always on (when a bug does not disable them....). Latency range from 200 to 400ms everybody in green while in lobby indicator.

If someone tell me I hit them I will not doubt but rest assured, it'll not be on purpose as I several times go off track to avoid hitting someone.

As a last example, Steve128rs passed me right before the tunnel entrance from the left (I was aware of if because I saw him in the mirror) so I hold to my line and it was still very close and no incident.

I also remember legends series and the BMW. Side by side with fatkrakr and although I did not see him I knew from the start he was there so, just hold the line.

This leads me to agree with Vaxx and awareness plus assuming the guy in front migh change his line just because tire grip and not owns fault. The only direct blame I do is when I'm hit from behind IF I did not make an emergency brake (mostly because lag issues with cars "jumping" in front of me or crash in front of me)

BUT I always keep my distance and I usually wait for an error (or if after 2 laps the guy in front constantly has a window in the same spot :D). As I said, I don't consider side by side scrubbing a deliberate collision while in passing manoeuvres.

All these talking to say I'm agreeing with Vaxxtx AND please tell me if I hit you even if I didn't know because it'll tell me so I can "learn" how much distance is needed to avoid a collision.

My 2¢ and forgive me if I messed up while (un)aware. I really don't want to loose this races we're having.

I did some races with stig182rs yesterday and guess what... all my tunes were gone. No brake pressure, no grip (probably too high tire pressure), etc. When I checked them offline on the same track, everything was perfect again.

This latest horrible bug is close to a gamebreaker for me. What good is it to practice and tune your car for hours only to be dealt with a borderline undriveable POS on raceday?!? I m very close to just throwing this laughable bugfest of a game straight out the window... :ouch:

PS: Not to forget - in the last 2 races we did I couldnt even choose the car I wanted. When in car selection it just showed a stock Delta Integrale... That I dont even own! *facepalm*

Dont worry mate, I wont let you down. But I m really close to just driving to Cologne and slapping the living s*** out of everybody there! Aggro FLX is aggro! :grumpy:

We need to do some training tonight/tomoro and see whats what. I hope you understand though, that I will cut down time wasted on training/tuning if this bug stays permanent now.

That really bites. I have not heard of this happening to anyone else. Really dumb question, but you are saving after you tune right? And you ARE saving the tune to the track you are racing on right? I know its probably yes, but I have spent hours tuning a car only to exit without saving on accident before.

Thank you for the positive feedback from all of you. It is clear that we all agree on two things 1) that there is room for improvement and 2) we all want the series to continue.

A few things need to change but I am sure, we as a group of friends, can sort things out.

In the meantime Round 2 is posted 👍

It helped you guys last round for sure. D/C in first place during GT3 and in 3rd or 4th place on the last race. I don't imagine it to be too much better .

Vaxx, the tunes are properly saved and they are perfect when testing them offline. But online the car is completely different and feels stock. The things missing are the ones I tune most: grip, brake pressure, gearing. So I just suppose its a bug that uses stock tune instead of my saved tunes, seems logic right..?

Anyway, I did a race with Rommie tonight where my Z4 was fine. So maybe there is hope.

PS: Great selection Zee, as always. Also wider tracks so there should be fewer collision problems. 👍

The only noticeable difference I've seen with my setups is that the bump stops online are always 1/10th of what I set offline. It may seem like nothing, but in any B and A class car, it means huge problems at high speed. I haven't had brake pressure be a problem though.

I sometimes feel my tunes are not loaded when racing online but I chalk that up to either anxious overdriving or some type of online latency. My mods to the gearing are usually very noticable and confirms that my tune is actually being used.
