Coming from GT Sport, having trouble enjoying PC2

Did change calibration of wheel to 360 degrees. Think that I have been running at closer to 900 degree and cars were always very jerky when shifting gears. 360 degree seems to provide much smoother steering and has reduced the car jerking during shifting.

I don't understand that - I think it should have the opposite effect!

Try setting the car up for the corner by braking earlier, then keep a little power on - with the wheel at its default turning setting (normally around 900 degrees) you should hardly have to turn the wheel for most corners - unless it is a hairpin obviously! Some of the cars have a lot of engine braking - if so, brake, let the revs fall and change down much later than some other games - it is very easy to lock the rear and spin out by down shifting too early.

What in game brake settings do some of you use?

I am only using T-150, however at 25% or so of brake peddle depression on most cars the brakes seem to lock up easily. That is even with real settings on for the in car control settings. What I typically have to do is use a lot let off the gas probably earlier then normal and barely press the brake peddle.

Was messing around with a bunch of settings yesterday and for the most part ...kind of got to start over for what works for me.

The more I play, the more that I think Project Cars has the most potential to keep improving.

I new like you.
My T300 is set to the following not sure if it will help you because I am still new.

All dead zone to 0
All sensitivity to 50
Speed sensitivity 0
FFB: Informative
G 75
V 60
T 50
FX 40

FOV: Helmet 70

Movement
Shake off
World 40
G force 10
Show helmet on or off depending on my mood.
Depth no
Apex 60
H leaning 80
C leaning 82.

I have to say I normally drive GT cars not tried formula cars.
It's a shame to can't set each car separately.

I find adjusting the brake bias when driving help reduce lockup.
And turning off the shake helps with forcing on the track.
Hope it helps in some way.

The more play the game the more I wonder hows it this game is not as big as GT with YouTubers giving track guides like in GT, track guides is such a great help for newbies.

I practice a track and my favourite cars (MERC, RR, AUSTIN ) trin private training (which needs a video replay so you can see what you done)
Then in a custom race normal about 30mins+ with custom weather to see how I am compared to the AI set at 100% aggression (trying to imitate real online lobby etc), AI level set to 66 so I should be low in the pack of 32 cars if not I turn it up, I am not looking to win but keep up & try close racing without mistake:lol::lol:.
Today I just found mixed class racing so that will be my next test.
No assist full damage best way to enjoy this game.

Thanks Mr Grumpy - I didn't think of that!

I have mine set to maximum - it took a while to get used to it and seemed extreme at first, but now I like the effect.
I used to have everything on 100 when I first started playing but now I've dialed everything back & set it up to a more natural feel.

World movement 75
G-force 25
Look to apex 50
Helmet tilt 50
Camera tilt 50

Forgot to add my fov setting is 75 but I always move the seat forward in every car enough so the speedo/rev dials are just at the bottom of the screen, see video.

Compare that to my first video, everything at 100, motion blur & dynamic fov.

While I admit it does look more dramatic & can be good for a quick arcade blast, when you start doing longer more important races it can get a bit tedious.

Thanks for the information, will give some of your settings a try. Believe have got braking to be considerably better. Now steering needs work. Probably go back to 900 degree. FOV is back to decent settings, of course depends on car.

Decided to take a break from using the wheel and just did a few quick races with controller.

Using F355 Challenge car which is a fun car on Sugo. Had one race where there was a strange graphical glitch as one car the drivers right tire was missing. However the car was keeping pace and never pitted, so clearly graphical.

Back on the T-150 wheel. When back to 900 degree rotation. Settings are good now and I believe best that I have ever had them.

All deadzones set at 0. The rest at 50 except brake sensitivity at 35 (no locking of brakes before brake pedal is fully depressed). Right now FB is informative with gain at 100 and rest at 50 with menu spring strength at 0.70

My FOV settings are all basically at 90. Probably higher then what most would use with 55 inch tv and setting say 5 feet from eyes to screen.

For now world moment and g-force at 20, helmet and camera len at 20.

Something also learned recently (last few days) you can sort cars by class. Not sure why never noticed that before.

They need a way to save these settings to a config name (can you do that on PC version?)

Once in awhile the game will think the clutch is gas and gas the clutch. Not sure why. When this happens just remap them. Used to happen when I switch from PC1 to PC2 or vise versa.

Time to hopefully really start enjoying the game and not mess with any dang settings for awhile lol.

@Hygrade B you can save private sessions as well, go to the end of the session replay and then you can save it. I don't remember out of the top op my head exactly but I think in session you only have the last two minutes and once it has ended you can save the entire session

I decided to check my tv picture settings.
Trying to stop this pit bug problem I get, each time a car goes into the pit my game jitters/frame drop. Each time it happened the car pauses for a second.

I found This also affect the POV, at present I am playing with settings that fill the screen fully.
I find that FOV etc seems to change how the FFB affects the car. the car gets either heavy or light depending on settings.

Also I have been playing around with the FFB again trying to get better control off the car when using HS since this is the tyre with less grip.
Will try your settings to see if it improves me.

The pit bug is a random occurrence, not sure if it's the game or the console overheating or things going on in the background. It can happen on any track normally when all the AI pit at once, but if you reload the game it works fine again.

Yes I've also noticed the closer fov makes the car feel twitchy & light but a far fov make the car feel sluggish & heavy, you can notice it more with a controller.

Been enjoying a few slower cars last few days including this evening.

Nissian Fairlady 1973, was surprised how well this car drives. Took it on The Glen short track. Enjoyable little sprint race. With the slower cars seems that you really need to be on your game.
One or two late breaking, or slight track offs and you will not be able to make up the time lost since cars do not accelerate that quick and not a lot of top end speed etc.

This evening BWM 2002 Stance at Sugo (my fav track). Porsche 961 is fantastic car, with all wheel drive it fairly easy to control.

I would say perhaps close to having some of most enjoyable races since started will Pole Position on original Atari.

In some ways I would say Project Cars is what I always hoped GT series would become.

I must apologize to all those that developed this game. It is a good product.

Race on my friends....

p.s. if your on thinking about trying the game. Its definitely worth it. Works fine with decent controller set-up. Really though a wheel like T-150 is very suitable for more enjoyment. Just understand this is not a race game to to be conquered overnight. More like weeks and months.

Pretty much got my settings dialed in for now to allow for decent racing. I would say in some car classes the ability to drive the car is close to GT already. Still lots and lots of laps to be good with the cars I choose to use most often for now. To know when and how much brake to apply, to know how far in the corner can go, which corners you can ride the curb and which one you can not.

So much better then GT. I know a lot of times in GT after 5 or so laps would be ready for the race to be over especially against A.I. In Project Cars 5 laps or so is just the prelude to the heart of the race. Meaning that it's nothing to do 10 laps or more as the race is not boring.

I would recommend Imola to relative new players. Fantastic track to go fast, clean races, fair amount of turns but nothing to challenging. Overall good flow to the track.
Just ran a full grid on PS4, 33 cars mixed race.
Have some of the graphic stuff turned off. For me did not really notice any frame rate drop, but was clear weather and daytime. Finished last though and maybe even 1 lap behind. There is one turn that take to far on the edge and with wrong brake / throttle being applied. Probably spun out 4 or 5 times. Still good learning experience.

Sence of speed, which was always one of my biggest complaints is fine now and comfortable with my FOV settings.

There is life beyond the GT series lol.

Ha!
Sometimes it's an achievement just to finish 7th after a 30 min race. Especially if you make a mistake. There is no rubber banding in PC2. You go off and it hurts. That's the fun. I've restarted quite a few races learning PC2 and still do to this day sometimes but the feeling of accomplishment is way better in PC2. When you battle it out with a good AI setting and get a podium it feels like work.
Glad you're having fun.

Its a shame PC2 didn't get a bigger exposure & actual FIA racing like GT, I feel it would be better if not at the same level today & with updates like GT.
Lol just watch the GT FIA & now looking for any old PC2 live rac

No rubber banding but there's a pattern, the grid (whatever size) gets split into 3. Slow, medium & fast.

It's cleverly incorporated in such a way that if 1 or 2 cars manage to get into either adjacent group (via a crash or whatever) then they'll adapt to the speed of that group.

But they will stay grouped up to a point, unless they've crashed/spun & pitted & are well behind.

Then on top that you get a speed differential over the course of the race, 1st lap is slow (warming tyres), then they boot it for a while, then back off slightly before booting it again towards the end of the race.

It's not always 100% like this, you'll get the odd random event thrown in for good measure like P1&P2 might race off into the sunset together & obviously the power differential between cars in various classes plays a part but generally it all works quite well.

Question. Am surprised to calibrate my pedals each time I start the game?
You don't have to as such, not in game anyway.

Just push all pedals a couple of times before you launch the game as @IfAndOr says just to register with the wheel.

Think it's more to do with the console than the game.

Thanks both off you.
I just having issues getting used to HS.
I now only use them above 27deg track below that I stick 2 S.

To balance things out I normally lower HS tyre pressures but raise SS tyre pressure, also regardless of tyre compound I always have the front pressures higher than the rear.

I like a bit of slip at the front so it's not to snappy, if I need to kick the back out I'll just bang the throttle.

But that's just my driving style.

It just does not steer like a real car. It always feels like it has rubber band steering. when you can finally adjust the steering to simulate a real car it will be a great game. The tracks and cars are the best from a graphics stand point. Now it is last on my list of the later race games.

And Gran Turismo does? LOL
You have to try the Custom Force Feedback files on Race Department if you haven't. (if you're on PC)
Transforms the feel to something resembling Assetto. Easier and more control over steering. Much easier to keep the car on the track with the feeling of weight transfer and the loss of tire grip through the wheel.
In my opinion, a lot of cars come stock with too aggressive LSD settings that force understeer. Learning how to set these has been a serious improvement.
Here's something for you to try out:
Pick a front engine rear wheel drive car. Turn OFF (disengage) all rear LSD options. Ie, geared, clutch, viscous, all off.
Drive the car. See what feels like. Most likely not your best option, of course, but notice the feeling.
Now pick one LSD option and set it to it's lowest setting. Even a geared LSD setting of 1:1 has an effect albeit very light.
Drive the car. Take note.
Raise the setting. Drive the car, take note. This is a simple option due to it just being one ratio to adjust. Notice if you like the feeling but most importantly notice if the car opens up and steers more in a matter you like.
Repeat this for the Clutch LSD but obviously you have more control over each aspect. Preload all the way down, least amount of clutches, ramp angles both to 90 degrees.
Drive the car.
Raise only the Preload now. See what you get. Your Power Ramp and Coast Ramp can be adjusted to taste. More clutches amplifies the ramp angles if you need to go farther in adjustment.
I realize this is going to take some time but learning what this does transforms the way the cars perform and makes it so that when you try a new car, you can immediately diagnose some turn in, mid turn and turn exit problems. Then work on fine tuning with suspension if need be. I've stumbled on cars performance transforming for the better just by closing off the radiator opening as crazy as that may sound. Obviously you can't just keep it closed but the difference in handling was significant.

This has to be sarcasm right?

GT is no where near in the same league as games like AC and PC in terms of console sims.

In fact after 7 gt tiles i'm still searching for the real meaning behind there slogan Gran Turismo The Real Driving Simulator cause to this day and after 7 games i yet to experience real driving simulation in that series and no i'm not being sarcastic.

Yeah GTS is so real you can hit over 275MPH in the McLaren P1 GTR a car that in real life doesn't go pass 200 mph
Feel the rush

Well it's been a little over two weeks since last post. Not much new to report. Have not had that much time to get very many races in, with work and then a friend in town.

Just been trying different car and track combinations. Probably still staying with 180 mph and less cars for now. Did play GTS for an hour or maybe 2 when latest car content was released, but pretty much just dull and boring compared to Project Cars. Will probably just play/mess around with GTS when just want to chill and not worry to much about actual racing. I do enjoy the photo mode in GTS though.

I did get a warning while playing PC2 since last post about flat spotting tires.

Anyways will keep at it and probably at the point when need to try and apply other people's car tunes for certain tracks.

Thought I would add my two pennies worth in regards to PC2 vs GTsport.

Just completed my first week online racing and using the wheel with GTsport and all I can say is, wow what a **** show. My follow racers in the game seem incapable of understanding how their brakes work and how to perform a clean overtake .
The cars offer little to no feel and all seem to understeert all time unless you have soft tyres on. It all seems like guess work or memory.

Picked up a copy of PC2 and what a difference.
It's not perfect but far more enjoyable in terms of handling and racing with the AI (not tried online yet so if anyone can help and point me in the right direction that would be appreciated)
Tried a TCR car at Cadwell Park.... Jesus I thought my arms would fall off
The feedback and being able to catch rear end slides is way beyond GTsport and enjoyable when done right.

Saving up for a PC so I can play ACC or iracing but in the meantime I shall not be playing GTsport and shall be sticking to PC2.... A true sim racer for PS4

Glad you like PC2. For race cars it is probably the best overall experience on PS4. GTS is OK but it's never held my attention for any length of time.

The AI gets a little maligned on occasions but it's really not that bad. Give them a bit of room and you can have many a decent race against them.

I see you're in the UK Shaun so @Sick Cylinder's races might interest you over HERE. We do know how to brake. Usually. :P

Thank you very much.

GTsport is good if you fancy racing a Fiat 500 around a made up track with a load of nim rods.

I shall be doing a load of practice before I trust myself online but its nice to know that there are online races I can join etc.

Thank you for the advice.

I have no problem driving a Fiat 500 around a fictional track. And there is going to be Nim Rods everywhere you go.
The problem I have is that GTS made the driving experience so lack luster and boring that you could fall asleep while tooling around in that Fiat 500.

Take the same car in Assetto Corsa or for the sake of sticking with PC2, they have a an Abarth 500 mod for PC, and you get an experience. You can feel weight transfer and you can drive the car to it's edge, no matter how small or low power it is. Every car has an edge that you can drive on that makes it exciting. Sadly, GTS did not capture this feeling in their driving experience.

Never thought of it that way.

GT sports enjoys so much publicity that you automatically think that modern day racers 'feel' this way.

As soon as i turned a wheel in anger on PC2 it clicked and it made the cars in GT sport feel wooden and like boats.

Struggle to understand why it gets so much praise but I guess consoles are made for casual gamers.
