Confused on the new "Expert" seasonal event

IMHO, expert should mean expert - one should need a special tune just to compete! Beginner is for slow, easy stuff, and intermediate for those who know the track but do not have a special tune. Expert should be very difficult - impossible to win without a special tune.

I mean, we are talking about seasonals here, right? So why are expert level seasonals so easy that my 7 year old son can do them with gold?

So not only the OP isn't an "Expert" material, you're saying he's worse than your 7-year-old son on top of that.

Ahhh...

OP, if you need a tune for your Genesis, you can try Exeter's 500PP tune.

Just keep trying. Don't give up. Fighto!

Seriously??? Let me guess, are the Senna special event, the Lexus in Nurburgring... few challenging ones?? Yeah?

Actually i golded the last Senna Event second time around i.e. the LOTUS97T at Brands Hatch was stupid fast time to beat. The others were fairly easy. The Lexus at Nurburgring is the only seasonal I couldnt get gold on for some reason. Im prettt fast with a ds3 or a wheel, i use a Logitech DFGT but anyway I was still 15 seconds off gold time. I was like :boggled:

I did not drive that one, lexus on Nurburg, Nurburg and nighttime? My nemesis with extra difficulty.
I just got gold with senna kart a few days ago. The rest? eeeehm..Not an alien...(yet?):P

LoL, I'm also like you. I can gold the kart by getting the good line but struggle to even get Silver on the rest. The Nurburgring, I only managed to get Bronze lol. That Lexus in Nurburgring turned out to be my 1st seasonal event when I just bought the game. I was so intimated and depressed after that thinking how slow turtle I am and almost quit the game right after lol. Until I find GTPlanet and look around for help and discuss driving techniques, I start improving myself a lot more. I think I could have made Silver in the Lexus in Nurburgring if they let me do it again.

The biggest problem is the rubber-band AI. At least on the GT5 seasonal events you had to run fairly consistent lap times to get gold. GT5 also offered more credits for PP differential when you wanted a challenge. GT6 just waits for you to catch the lead car and doesn't let you pull away too far.

Not only the rubber band is bad, but sometimes the AI suddenly forgets were the braking point is, and throw himself into the wall, giving you more chance for the win.

For me, the difference between beginer and expert, is just the combination of pp and track, the AI acts the same way.

Yeah, just tried with a genesis, 484pp 399hp, restarted event until i got the california as rabbit.
You must have tuned the genesis, or else you can't have that 489pp
Yes, not easy, but i got it.
What settings did you use?
Do you brake at every corner? Because at some corners you don't need to brake.
I use tractioncontrol at 3.
I use sliprecovery.
and sport soft tires. ( whoeps forgot to write that.)
Maybe i can help you

Klick here, i recorded my run with the genesis including the settings

Interesting, i have used the Shelby 350R(standard), tuned to about 490pp with sports medium. I was doing 32's per lap, but i caught the California at the same place that you did.

I ran this with the C7 Vette, and my rabbit was a 66 Shelby Cobra. I was halfway through lap 5 before I passed him, no need in rubberband since he was in that killer car.

The beginner race was rubberband like crazy. I was in first at the end of lap 1 and they stayed within a second the entire way.

The medium race had no rubberband. I was in first on lap 2 and ended up winning by 22 seconds. Completely inconsistent on the rubberband effect.

[...]its called "expert race" so it should be tough [...] however it's the way they make it difficult that bothers me, instead of giving the AI faster cars than is allowed, and a head start of 40 seconds, do a standing start with equal cars, with the difference that you make the AI able to drive properly[...]

I'd rather take on a too high PP AI, than the rubberband AI anyday. That is just ridiculous.

[...]As to having standing starts available, I really believe that it isn't done because of the hardware constraints that the ps3 has[...]

I guess they should really consider the limitations of hardware and software to make these events. A good balance is the key. EXPERT events requiring a good car with a specific tune for it, with rolling starts if there really is a problem, but if possible shorten the distance between cars, if not at least maybe add one more lap.

Have some "consolation prize", have half the pack be the usual cars we see on these events so you don't have much problem getting at least 6th even if you're not a racing game pro, but the other half very close to the PP limit; use rubberbanding, but not by making the cars faster than possible when behind, but neither too slow if way ahead;

Make it HARDER, but, and this is the most important thing (which I remember was very helpful in GT4): ALLOW QUALIFICATIONS! Don't make it too easy so we already start 1st, make the AI good for hotlaps (maybe even cheating a little in that, if we can't see them, just to compensate for the poor AI, but just to get a more convincing lap from them, not overdoing it), also add a time/lap limit to it. It doesn't matter getting a very good position, how many times I had a good mix of skill, car choice and tune, but just barely catched the 1st placed car right in the finish line, just starting ONE position ahead would have changed everything.

TL,DR:

*Keep rolling start, maybe tweak to make it not near impossible (like it sometime feels like)
*Half the cars are the usual stuff, half very close to PP limit. At least 6th is not hard, even without special car tuned for event
*Rubberbanding, but in natural ways mimicking possible human behavior
*QUALIFICATIONS. Even if hard, one position up can still mean a lot in many cases

Just think, wouldn't that help a lot with the feeling of cheapness* of these events? (*Although I myself actually really like them as long as I feel it's possible without having to look up the perfect car/tune [average 15k to 25k in TTs without trying TOO much BTW, just to give an idea of how skilled I am, or ain't])

I just used a 370Z. (I like to use Nissan when I can)

Custom suspension kit at default.

Standard brakes

Custom trans, only adjustment was lower top speed to 149mph

Triple clutch and diff at default

Power at 100% with stage 2 tuning, and sports computer.

Wing added and DF at 20.

Stage 3 weight reduction

97kg ballast at 32%

Did 1:31/ 1:30 laps and got first after half hour of trying after learning the track.

Active steering and ABS1 only aids..

.. For anyone who's interested haha

That's a bit harsh, and possibly fairly pointless because that special tune will turn up here and then everyone would be using it ;)

Or do you mean that the tune would be provided with the seasonal in the form of a loan car? That makes more sense, though I'm not a fan of those parameters really - PD have pulled some evil challenges out of the bag in the past which use a similar situation.

For me, expert just means harder competition like another poster pointed out, with cars at a higher PP than you are allowed to use.

i find that comment to be pretty ignorant if im honest. not everyone has all week to spend playing console games. some of have to make a living

The ai cars certainly seem to mimic your own driving; make clean passes and they do give you room, but as soon as you start bashing past them or running off the track, so too do they.

I've found the recent expert races to be quite challenging on SM tyres but easy on SS.

You must have a really talented son then ...
Just read that even some of the better drivers here just managed to gold some of the expert seasonals... :mischievous:
Checking the leaderboards, several thousands of players don't succeed in getting gold...

What is the fast AI lineup for the expert race?

For the current expert race, the fastest rabbits from what I have seen are...
  • Ferrari California '08 [522pp]
  • Aston Martin V12 Vantage '10 [521pp]
  • AC Cars 427 S/C '66 [518pp]
  • BMW M5 '08 [513pp]
  • Jaguar XKR Coupe '10 [511pp]
👍

Thank you for the line-ups and the PP for each of them. Looks like the Ferrari California '08 and the Aston Martin V12 10' are the hot line-ups.

In my experience, the cars with stock PP that should be too high still drive pretty slowly in general, but it is a little disproportionate between corners and straights. They slow down waaaay too much for corners, but naturally give it the beans on straights, where the lead one or two rabbits can really eat into your lead. So it ends up where you hope there is a corner very near the finish line, or if there is a long straight you have to make sure there is a bit of a gap, or get ready to block. Which is a challenge, but pretty unrealistic :(

dont think you understand my point. if i did my car wouldn't be as quick stock as the AI.

dont think you understand my point. i did just that and the AI just pulled away. ive managed to win the race but i only win cuz the lead AI car went off track and up till the car going off i couldn't keep up.

I feel for you. The turning point for me was in choice of car. I'm no expert, as any Geezer will attest since my lap times are always at the bottom of my friends list.

However, this car worked really well for me - the Cobra 427 '66

Max out the weight reduction options
Add exhaust manifold, intake tuning and supercharger
Then limit the power to 50% to bring it back to PP500.

Of course add all the goodies which don't boost PP.

In this car I managed to take the lead with 1½ laps to go, and finished with a final lap time under 1:30

Other cars which have worked for me with a similar tuning approach are:-

Ford Shelby GT500 '13
Corvette Stingray (C7) 15th Anniv '14
Cobra 427 S/C Chrome Line
M4 Coupe Frozen Black Metallic

Have fun!

Glad that helped. Since my earlier post, I've been trying more cars in this Seasonal.

Best so far is the Toyota FT1, even better than the Cobra. With the FT1 even I could get multiple laps below 1:30. (I still prefer the Cobra for nostalgic reasons and because it's an open car)

When using the FT1, the game put me up against the AC 427 which was far tougher competition than I'd met before. So I tried it, and it's quick too. A little harder to drive, and it's a standard with the roof up, so not quite as appealing.

Other cars which worked well for me were a number of American Muscle Cars from yesteryear. I suspect all or most of them are good choices.

Lighter, less powerful cars did NOT work for me. Like the Caterham Seven. Hopeless. Likewise BMW Z8.

There's a pattern here!

EDIT note. Added the word NOT just above. Sorry for any confusion

In many expert level races, I like the McClarin MP4, Audi R8 Race Car and the Toyota hybrid T030. Even at stock suspension and everything, they still handle like a boss. I usually max out the power and adjust the top speed to fit the track top speed and usually win the race after few tries with ABS-1 only (no other aids). Give these cars a drive and you will like them.

All great cars!
Yep, me too. I can run 26-27s with the M3 GTR very nicely.

I have done a lot of work with the M3 GTR on track and in the game it's just as good. Yes, very nice indeed!!
