And who exactly is going to pay this $100,000,000 if the court system cynically awards it?

I doubt that city let alone county's treasury has that much money.

And now a $100 million dollar suit has been filed.
Wait, it is for a survivor? For trauma? From hearing some stuff over the intercom? They weren't even physically present for the killing?

And it is standard for trained counselors to be made immediately available in the event of a tragedy, even if it is one student dying in a car accident off campus, on a weekend. I'm going to guess they did not take advantage of services made available to them, in which case they dill likely have no case.

If no form on counseling was available to the students afterward, then they may have a case, but the $100 million shows it is a money grab. $10 million at best, of it goes to a jury trial, and that's if it is a fully sympathetic jury. If it gets mediated $1-$5 million. Considering their attorney didn't stop the $100 million request, I'll guess they won't do well in court.

Well, going buy the calls I've received from them, I'd say that some fraction of the NRA is crazy.
I actually got a call from them today. I told them specifically that after they tried attacking the 1st Amendment to defend the 2nd (which I also defend) that they will never find me wanting my name associated with them in any way and to remove me from all contact lists. Fortunately, it was a very polite lady who claimed she would immediately remove our names from their contact lists.

I hope she caught that I said I know guns aren't the issue, because I want any reporting on how this recent event has affected them to reflect it was their scapegoating, and not their gun support that motivated me. I used to let them send me their newsletter, even though I don't own a gun.

For millions of Americans, this is exactly what is wrong with this country. If it wasn't for this knucklehead, there's another million behind him.

School should have seen this coming, so they are going to sue for one hundred million dollars. God bless America, or something.

So basically the school is getting sued? Or what sorry i have been a little too busy to keep following this. Plus like i said before I don't watch the news because it is filled with drama and assumptions and false facts before they have the facts

I'm not sure either, but this is what I saw in Nicks' post:

article
The unidentified client, referred to as Jill Doe, heard "cursing, screaming, and shooting" over the school intercom when the gunman, 20-year-old Adam Lanza, opened fire, according to the claim filed by New Haven-based attorney Irv Pinsky.

"As a consequence, the ... child has sustained emotional and psychological trauma and injury, the nature and extent of which are yet to be determined," the claim said."

Pinsky's claim said that the state Board of Education, Department of Education and Education Commissioner had failed to take appropriate steps to protect children from "foreseeable harm."

It said they had failed to provide a "safe school setting" or design "an effective student safety emergency response plan and protocol."

Pinsky said he was approached by the child's parents within a week of the shooting.
Long time ago, a stranger told me that when the next revolution takes place, all the lawyers must be eliminated. I of course don't agree, or see eye-to-eye with these radical people, but I do understand why some say such things.

Yeah, reports right after shooting were friggin all over the place.

Yeah. Well if people are now suing the school for this all i have to say if wow what a exuse. First it was guns now it is the school's fault. What's next Marilyn Manson again? I mean when colinbine happened they blamed Marilyn Manson for his music stating his music was making the youth troubled. Or blaming video games for street racing and shootings.

I mean if the abonit object is always getting blamed then we should start blaming cars for people dying because of someone drinking and driving. Yeah let's ban cars now too.

Like i said before I think if the shooter was alive this whole thing would end up different. I mean you actually have the person THAT WAS RESPONSIBLE TO BLAME.

One thing that is stupid about the new security system they had put in was the big glass door. I mean if you have a glass door with no added protection built in (such as safety glass that is in most school doors and it has the wire in it that is wired through the whole door).
Kind of pointless. I mean even with a plan to get everyone to safety (which every school has) there is no garentee. Whether it is a tornado/fire/shooting/spontaneous combustion there's no guarantee you can even act on something like that.

Yeah. I think something like secure entrance will slow down attackers, but really, if it's like any schools I've attended, you could never turn them into a fortress.

Yep

If parents didn't feel strongly compelled by law to send their children to these institutions regardless of their security measures, things might be different.

BTW, we can all thank Ralph Nader for the no responsibility sue happy mentality in the U.S.

I can't believe that. Someone is seriously trying to get rich off of a school shooting? They should be the CEO of some big company. They'll do anything to get rich make a few more million dollars to add to their $500,000,000+ worth. Even if they weren't just trying to get rich, how can they expect the staff over the intercom to remain calm and make the gunshots go away? People are so stupid.

I'm shocked at this lawsuit for two reasons.

First is, why did it take so long? I figured the lawyers would descend on this town like flies on 🤬 and the lawsuits would be flying before the last kid was buried. After all it is American, and someone has to be at fault right?

Second is, there is only one so far? Where is the inevitable class action? This is worth at least a half a billion in total.

Well if someone let a person in a school wearing combat gear. Then I see some serious neglect.

Maybe this suit will produce the schools video that seems to be hidden.

This whole thing smells bad. Something ain't right with the interviews. I've yet to see one where the people seemed to be mourning and not smiling. Let alone shed a tear.

I'm a parent and can tear up at the thought of my kids dying.

Agreed 100%. In this day and age people will sue even if there is no logical reason to sue. Just yesterday I turned down the request of a couple of 12 year olds to shovel my walk from snow? Why? Because if one of them slips and falls their parents could just automatically sue me because they fell on my property, despite the fact that I had nothing to do with them falling. If the suit isn't tossed out then I hope beyond hope that the judge who agrees to this has to pay out of pocket the $100 million. This will go from a charity to a money grab. Its hard to feel any sympathy if all of the kids who "heard" the violence on the intercom suffer emotional damage to the point where every single one of them is suing for money that 95% of won't be needed to help the child cope.

So I just found out about this and it's the first time I've heard of it. The gun shown on TV being cleared by a police officer is not a Bushmaster AR-15 as has been reported by various news agencies. It's not an AR-15 at all. The officer is clearing a bolt which an AR is not equipped with. It looks to be like a different type of rifle or shotgun.

At :05 you can clearly see the gun doesn't resemble an AR in the slightest.

Was this fact already known or did I just find out about it weeks late?

Perhaps this rifle in the trunk of the car was a second rifle that was not used in the Sandy Hook School shooting.

Repectfully,
GTsail

I thought they reported a shotgun in the car? It was in addition to the Bushmaster AR that he used for the actual shooting inside the school.

It looks like a bolt-action to me too though.
