Conservatism

For those of us who like me don't have access to the above article due to paywalling, white people are now more likely to die from Covid in the United States than African-Americans.

Oops I thought I and everyone could read it through the paywall because it was an article on covid and therefore free.

Conservative media has been pushing a video of Jill Biden hosting a Diwali event at the White House in which a child is apparently hurling curse words at the First Lady. It's fake. The cursing child is from a 2019 video in which he cusses out his teacher. So the media which screams "fake news!" is, in fact, fake news.

Ah.

Texas joins Tennessee.

One wonders if @LeMansAid objects to this sort of conservatism being referred to as conservatism or, frankly, finds this sort of legislation necessary in that it preserves rights.

Edit: I forgot the "condescending gif."

And... what about people who are comfortable with their gender and are, y'know... acting?

I wonder how their legislation would treat fully transitioned actresses like Supergirl's Nicole Maines. Guess she won't be treading the boards in either of those two states for the foreseeable future.

Crime.

Specifically, it's a crime under the Texas Business and Commerce Code (Section 102.0031) for a venue categorized as a "sexually oriented business" to permit entrance of an individual aged less than 18 years and this act aims to amend the definitions for what constitutes a sexually oriented business to include one that serves alcohol and may exhibit such a performance.

The proposed change very likely violates the First Amendment to the United States Constitution as the performances described are protected acts of expression not subject to exception as "obscenity," likely per City of Erie v. Pap's A.M. (2000) precedent.

Cinncinnati Enquirer
Austin Combs, 26, is accused of killing Anthony King. According to court documents, Combs admitted to shooting him and video footage backs up his confession.

King, 43, was shot in the head and the back in his backyard on Chapel Road, according to Butler County Sheriff Department records. His wife and his son were home at the time, and it was his son who called 911.

"My neighbor just shot my dad," he told the dispatcher.

King's wife identified Combs as the shooter.

"He's come over like four times confronting my husband because he thought he was a Democrat," she said in the 911 call.

She said they were just doing yardwork before the shooting happened. She said she could tell the wounds were fatal.

"He's definitely gone," she said crying. "He's the love of my life."

Deputies swarmed the area to apprehend Combs, who had retreated to his house and then left in a Jeep with his father. A drone was deployed. Investigators began to track cell phone locations.

During the search, dispatchers relayed information about Combs to the police working to apprehend him. According to the dispatch reports, they told officers Combs is autistic and in 2017 had stabbed his father, who survived.

At 1:08 p.m., less than 90 minutes after the shooting, Combs was in custody along with his father after they stopped the Jeep.

Investigators have not revealed a possible motive for the killing.

Combs has been charged with murder. He is being held at the Butler County Jail on a $950,000 bond.

I just hope the dumb *****, especially those in that demographic, who entertain the idea of voting for this moron somehow get to hear the above broadcast and maybe, finally, start to realise what an electroencephalographic flatscan he is but unfortunately cognitive dissonance is one hell of a drug.

Hmmm, tiny-faced Charlie sure seems pissed about the dishonest fundraising practices of a certain someone in the GOP. Whoever can he be talking about, and orange you all surprised he didn't dare call this (former) guy out by name?

The problem is I'm not sure they'll ever figure it out. They'll just always take these responses as offense, and dig their heels in deeper, and suddenly we're up against the First Order or some wild stuff.

Must be a cult thing that rose up from under the rug. This is Cape Canaveral's county also, where thousands of well-educated Space Force members, mostly with engineering and science degrees, and NASA engineers and scientists live. There is also a large Space Force and Air Force presense here in Dayton at Wright Patt, I'm friends with many, and you'd hope that their voting habits would be similarly informed.

LOL, someone doesn't like being called out on their bad faith arguments...

When did American conservatism unabashedly embrace fascism? I'd say roughly 2016. Look it's not that hard to answer. Of course that wasn't the first time. One could argue that at least a section of republicans did so somewhere in the early 70s with Nixon. So it's not like this is completely without precedent. But yea, 2016 is a reasonable answer.

This is more bad faith too, because the original complaint was that facism applies to "large swaths of mainstream conservatism". Not Romney in particular. So using Romney, someone who voted TWICE to impeach Trump over essentially fascism, as an example of how conservatism differs is bad form. I don't think he was originally complaining about fascism applying to Romney.

It's misogynist, and he's the idiot.

Deterioration from when? Women have dominated the teaching profession in the US since at least the 1800s.
