Considering ditching consoles

I have been playing Forza since number one and I love the game, its great to play and since I got my rig set up I can't get enough of it. Here's my problem, the idiots who play Forza are ruining it for me, It takes me roughly half an hour to set my wheel up because I have to move my bed and other stuff around but its worth it to play with a wheel. So you get into a lobby and you can be certain there will be at least 3 or 4 idiots. I raced this one guy the other day and I got a good run on him out of 130r, as I pulled along side him he just rammed me off!. I let it go and in the second race I once again tried to pass him only this time he used the old weave all over the road tactic. I messaged him saying what the hell are you doing and he sent me a message back saying I am allowed to block you that's real racing!. I told him your allowed on defensive move and he just sent me "your mum" back so this what I am up against. There are plenty like him as well, they think the race is won at the first corner, they think its ok to dive bomb down the inside even though they have no chance of making it and take you out instead. I have spent roughly 500 pounds on my set up and I am seriously considering moving to PC where I hope the standard of driving will be better, you also get a better standard of driver on GT5

Even on PC you get some terrible drivers. But on PC sims not only is the driver standards better but the physics are more realistic.

It's been the opposite for me, last few weeks I have had nothing but clean racing, maybe a few accidental bumps here and there, but never anything intentional. I've been playing custom public lobbies more than matchmaking though, that may be why.

simple, have both, forza is still good for leagues and serve that impulse of driving something after watching it on topgear. Like the stability of the game too, the pc can be a bit tempamental. regarding gt5 i am tired of all the racing soft on rail racing.

Strange - I finally ventured into actual online racing today in FM4, in the Cycled Production hoppers, and had almost all clean races. There was a single guy in two races who liked to bump/swerve/brake-check, but he was kicked shortly after. Had a lot of fun, and that sort of racing really is a great option for me, since I rarely have enough time to sit down and get bogged down with the myriad options to be competitive in other ones.

You will never find anything like the GT/Forza experience in a PC game. Just sayin'.

Better physics, graphics, sound, controls and options, racing features (eg. pitting, flags), and online play? Sure, all are possible.

Hundreds of licensed roadcars? Forget it. Endless upgrade options? Not really. Easy-to-use vinyl editor? Not unless you think drawing on a distorted flat outline of a car and booting up a program to double-check your work over and over again is easy. A couple dozen real-world tracks? Depends on the game. Approachable enough to just sit down and play after a day of work? Again, depends.

Like JJ72 said, you're best off keeping the console and playing Live for Speed on the side or something. I recommend trying the free demo, it allows online multiplayer -- but I think you may find PC multiplayer isn't that hugely different from Xbox Live. It gets better if you have an LFS license, but still.

Join a good club, I too was frustrated with online play now I cant wait for one of the club race series days to roll around, in between I am pounding the track and car of the week to get my times competitive and enter the hoppers for the practice in defensive driving. As it is no longer my main online race experience it bothers me less if the timmies are out in force...I just report them and find another lobby or go back to hot lapping :-)

Maybe look into iRacing if you don't mind the paying for it. The rating and infractions systems there strongly encourage clean racing. The car selection isn't what you are used to but the physics and rule system might make up for those things.

I've been playing GT5 since release and I very rarely get a clean lobby.

Most races end up with the last place guy deciding to ruin the race for everyone else.

Dedicated PC sims are probably the only clean races you will get (Or private lobbies)

Why ditch anything? The standard of driving in forza matches up to anything on PC if you know where to look.

Random Public lobbies in any game are just a pick-up-and-play thing designed to get you racing as fast as possible. A few admin restarts in rFactor after the first corner carnage was testament of that for me. Sure iRacing does it a lot better due to the safety rating but it isn't eradicated by any means, and even if it was, it wouldn't really be racing if there wasn't an incident every once in a while, it would become too sterile and take away some of the fun IMO.

Join a proper racing series on any of the console games and it will make that 30min wheel setup seem a lot more worthwhile.

Not to mention, if you want pick-up-and-play clean races, iRacing is pretty much your only choice at the moment, it's the only one that has enough of a population that may be running races in the cars that you wish to drive when you boot up the sim. This is one of the problems of this niche genre, it's also why you may find a better standard of drivers on GT5, the odds of finding people willing to play the way you want are increased simply because the size of the current player base.
