Everything the Viper beat the Vette in I already expected, the 1/4 mile wasn't as bad as I was expecting. What the Vette beat the Viper in I figured it would as well. The real test for Viper will be the next performance successors to the C6 ones.

Was the comparison done with performance versions of both vehicles?

So. According the 2014 configurator, a 1LT with Z51, NPP and magnetic ride is going to be $65 more a month than what I'm paying on my C6 if I use it as a trade in...... Hmmmm.

I don't know that I really trust anything that article says, but if he's right about the Z06 not being N/A anymore, I'll be pretty upset...

No way it'll have that much of a price jump. Corvette pricing has been predictable and normal for too long for there to be that much of an outlier.

the Z07 could very well tip the $100k mark. That means it will be going head-to-head with the likes of the Ferrari 458 Italia and even the Porsche 911 Turbo.

👎

I hope they keep the modern Z06 formula in regards to price, keep it affordable with performance to match and beat exotics costing twice as much. The Z06 is a stepping stone to a ZR1 while still providing performance to put it up there with Ferrari's and Porsche, but if they hike the price to six figures the whole "affordable" aspect goes out the window.

I also like the N/A aspect of the Z06, but with rivals like the 662hp Shelby GT500 closing the gap, the Z06 will need a boost in hp.

Not that I think the Z06 should cross the 100k mark, but wouldn't that still be less than half of the 911 Turbo and (especially) 458 Italia?

Hasn't really affected the GT-R, has it though? Not that I see Chevrolet hiking the price $25,000 for the new model. All that would do is put the ZR1 (should it return as well), well up there in Porsche's world.

The GTR is the top tier car from Nissan, and arguably the entire country of Japan (outside of LFA) so the price increase to six figures kind of fits the description. Comparabley it's more like the the top dog ZR1 from Chevy. But still with the GTR being in six figures now it lost some of the "bang for the buck" appeal when it was $70-$80k range in '09-'11 (Yes hp did increase after and its still priced cheap for it's insane performance). For Chevy, the Z06 is the choice in the middle, still kick ass performance for a more affordable price. Going to six figures it negates the whole affordable aspect.

Just my .02

The 911 Turbo is due to start about $150k, the Turbo S at a little more than $180k. Even then, it's a relative bargain compared to what's made available by the Italians. Sitting flat at $100k, if the Z07 does that, it continues to undercut it's competition by tens of thousands, if not more. Even the SRT Viper, with similar specifications, would be in excess of $100k.

If they want to make the Z07 that expensive, by all means, I don't think it's outrageous. Its becoming increasingly difficult to find current C6 Z06s that ring up for less than $90k, especially when you're adding the updated interior, Magnaride suspension, and the fancy wheels/tires.

If I were the man in charge of Corvette development, I'd wanna do something like this:

  • Chevrolet Corvette - Standard 5.3L V8, six speed automatic: $43,499 MSRP
  • Chevrolet Corvette Eco - Standard 5.3L V8 with Two Mode Hybrid system, automatic-only, re-tuned for performance application versus previous GMT900 applications: MSRP - $51,995
  • Chevrolet Corvette Stingray - As is: MSRP $51,995
  • Chevrolet Corvette Z07 - 5.5L V8, 550+ BHP, more or less a road-going version of the C7.R: MSRP $89,995
  • Chevrolet Corvette "Hammerhead" - Twin-turbocharged 6.2L V8, 700BHP, a very capable and very luxurious Corvette to properly sit above everything else: MSRP $114,995

They've got plenty of room to do whatever they want. I really feel like a budget model down at the bottom would rake in a lot of cash with people just looking to dip their toes into the Corvette water, and within a year or two, they could very easily introduce a monster of a performance car with that extra cash. It's the same damn thing that Porsche, Ferrari, and everyone else does... And as much as it may encroach on the Camaro, there's quite a difference between them.

I love this, that's a great price setup. Still a great bargain at every level, like a 'Vette should be.

The only way I could see them offer up the six-cylinder option would be if they took a page from Ford and offered that new 3.6L twin-turbo model as the standard fare for the Corvette. Even then, that'll still make more than 400 BHP, but I think it is encroaching a bit too much on the standard LT1.

If they were to use that 5.3L EcoTec3 V8, at the very least, they get to drag up the ol' 327 badge to throw on the fenders. That alone, in my opinion, would be a great selling point. With 350 BHP on tap, it's more than enough to get you in trouble, and with the cylinder deactivation and so on, it'll easily get MPG ratings in the mid 30's.

The thing is, with the weight of the vette being so low already, the power to weight ratio with the 3.6 and 330hp would still be higher than a Camaro SS.

Corvette Forum member spotted these....
Looks like Z06/ZR1 mules. I see a splitter, wider track and that front grill looks like it's shaped a little differently. There's also something going on with that hood vent...

OP said he took them at Anthem AZ so most likely very close to Yuma.

I can tell it's in AZ, but Anthem is closer to PHX which is about 200 miles from Yuma. They may be doing long road test with them and then plan on taking them back to the GM proving ground in Yuma. Thanks for the update by the way.
