99% of the time people race or do track days with convertables with the roof up, cars are much more aero-dynamic this way - why would you want to potentially make your cars slower?

Exactly. Although it will look better. I wonder in GT4, will having the top down be that much slower or will it be as fast as having it up. I know in reality that having your top down is always slower.

S2000 with top up should always beat S2000 with top down having equal drivers.

I think being able to have it down is cool. Especially for photo mode. I think having the top down will look sexy as hell.

You never know though... having the top down might create strange downforce anomalies that allow the car to have extra grip through corners...

It all depends on whether or not it's all modelled correctly and how they determine the downforce on each car!

McLaren, I know the video you are refeering to and the top was up. I was looking specifically to see if the top would be down and it was not.

I'm guess AI cars will have their tops up but the car you drive will have the top down or a choice.

Do you race?
There's a shot of a convertible with the top down showing the driver cahgning gears floating around somewhere ...

That will be the shot in the 350z Roadster.

But it won't. In the game I guess there is a chance, but in reality top up is always faster than top down. It's common sense.

...for girls and hairdressers

Really wise comment.

Is the driver in all the convertables in GT4 ment to be KY?......Because in real life he uses that helmet and racing suit.....

oh and also......why can't you race as a man or a woman.....like in NFS HP2?

Oh man I hope this isn't why GT4 has been delayed soo much. They just had to push it back a month so they could perfectly model the convertible top going up an down. 👎:ouch:

I had never seen the Shelby cobra with a top on until GT2 (and subsequently, GT3). It looked so fruity that I never watched the replays with it.

roadsters should stay roadsters, unless it's raining.

This has been mentioned a lot before. Please search around the GT4 forums for more on this topic. I'm surprised no one's ever mentioned a Search.

I didn't say that having top down would be quicker than top up... what I did say was that the anomlies of having the top down might increase downforce (and therefore grip) in corners.

I doubt anyone has ever taken the time to do an in depth study of how the top down would affect downforce in cars!

I thought the animation looked superb, but I keep getting this feeling that there won't be more then 2 cars on track at once...

From KY's description, all convertibles will now be top-down when driving. There's an interview with him on the latest OPM disc (the one with the MGS3 demo) where he mentions convertibles specifically.

Well.. I don't want to challenge you but the Peugeot 206CC seen in a lot of pictures has the top up.

Don't think I've seen those pictures. Are they in-game, or garage/photo mode pics? It could mean you'll have the option, or that AI cars will always drive with the top up.

Doesn't look any better than the rest of the game. In fact, I'd say it looks worse than the cars and environments look.. that's a sure-fire bet that it's in-game. If you're thinking it's pre-rendered CGI, no... it's FAR too simple for that. If it were pure CGI, it would look 100% photorealistic, there'd be no question of it.

I think it'll be like this only one convertible(the player) will have the top down in a 6 car race.

I think it's unerstood that THE ultimate convertible option would to be able to switch with top up/down in the middle of a race, with the push of a button...unless its a hardtop of course, pulling over to take it off and stow it away in a trunk would not be cool. ....or would it? holy crap. I just fear barreling down a straight @ 200mph and then deciding to drop the top and then seeing it fly off or watch my car suddenly go airborn. ....holy crap. :dunce:

And won't be all be surprised when a 6-car roadster race has all six tops down.. hehe.

...and then your driver gives him the finger and flies past in his Koenigsegg CCR? oh man wouldnt that be awesome. If only it could happen :(

there are some convertibles in GT4P, such as Copen, beat, SL55
when you in car selection, they are open top
but while you race, they all cover up except 350z
