I would suggest that one week to get the details ironed out would not be long enough. However the idea has piqued my interest so I'll throw in my two scents for what it's worth.

I wouldn't choose Spa, if we're aiming to be authentic then F1 cars (presumably) are hard enough to drive anyway, that's before you throw in Belgiums unpredictable weather. Instead I would choose somewhere conditions are always constant, but spice it up with a day to night transition. Dubai springing to mind, but maybe there are more night race circuits (floodlit) in Pcars ive yet to come across.

I also think splitting the event over two or three weeks would be a good Idea. Not strictly in keeping with the real life counterpart but better accessible for everyone. As an example:

Practice 1, 2 and 3 to be held on weekend one. An hour or two's session on Friday Saturday and Sunday night. Most people should be able to make at least one if not all.

Qualifying to be held week two. To make an occasion of the event contenders could first race a support class similar to a real F1 weekend. Porsche Cup or lower formula for example. Half hour race, followed by two half hour Quali sessions and a final 15 minute quali session in knockout format. Comfort breaks in the appropriate places bringing the session to around two hours.

Weekend three. Main event. You'd have to figure out how to get the grid correctly formed up but a 20 minute warmup/form up should be good before the race. Accurate lap count of course.

Just suggestions. Would appreciate a link to said endurance thread too @Spooky Wooky

It's in post 1 of this thread Captain.

My thoughts are keep it simple and make it one event on one day initially.

I do like the idea of the support races and gp at some stage. We've got our own Porsche Super Cup thread in the series forum also linked from post 1. GP3, GP2, Porsche Super car and classic car races sound great but would be a super long commitment along with a full F1 race. Run them as their own events seperately.

@Spooky Wooky why don't we for now use the CRAP endurance thread and make a F1 endurance event sometime in September after the GT4 one (next week) unless you want to replace it with the F1 race. If we want to set up a thread in the series thread. I would make a plan of how you will run it in advance and not open it up to too much discussion once decided on (obviously before deciding, all discussion is great). We wouldn't want another GT3 championship fight - this happened outside of CRAP. I know we wouldn't get that here :)

Making practice and in particular qualifing match the real thing might be a little wasted effort as with many of our abilities qualifying doesn't make a huge difference over a long race.

Of course following all of the regs like qualifying, DRS zones, refuelling, enforced tyre types and quantity limits is possible but it takes time and faffing around to make it work. However, I would keep things simple by using what the game currently gives us in terms of rule features. The rules have changed many times in F1 anyway. What I would start off with is approximately this.

Practice 1: 20
Practice 2: 20
Qualifying: 15
Warm up: 5
Race: Realistic race distance

That would make the event 3 hours.

Weather: mix of clear and partly cloudy. No rain to start off with. This can be tailored for all tracks so we're not necessarily at the mercy of Spa's weather system if we were to use that.

Just my thoughts. Feel free to discuss.

I dare say your proposal is a little too much to chew on one evening. You will potentially have 16+ people to organise between sessions and it won't go as smoothly as your post might suggest. I imagine the total time commitment to exceed whatever is planned out so I suggested splitting it over multiple days for simplicity. However if the experience is going to be watered down to fit with the current endurance remit a one day event is preferable. I just got the impression that this was going to be something special. As a stand alone session, for me personally three hours is pushing what I'd be prepared to commit. And as I said before I have reservations about that schedule playing out the way it should. I agree that rules and regs should be decided upon by the 'grand jury' but time commitment should be open to discussion as always.

I'm sure it'll be a great event whatever the outcome, the Formula C race I had the privilege of racing in was thrown together at a moments notice but it felt coherent and well managed. The few laps I raced were a joy with clear instructions pre race and gentlemanly conduct during. Only one bug bear sprang to mind on the microphone front, people should mute them until they actually want to say something, there was so much background noise (wheel sounds/game sounds/static/etcetera) that I had to mute most people. Defeating the point of them being there.

The question is how realistic do you want things? If people just want an F1 style race that use the games limits and boundaries as template it will be quick and easy to organise. The further we want to go outside those boundaries, the longer things will take to organise for example, testing to see what works and what doesn't.

Looking to host a dummy run of group 5 racing (Wednesday 19th) starting at 6 bst mini one night championship event coming soon in September date to be arranged.

Of course people would also be free to do unofficial practices together whenever they want in advance. The game allows people to join even after qualifying has started so the actual event could be as little as the length of the race (typically 90-105 minutes) + 10 minutes for people like you and I who might have less time to dedicate towards it.

maybe we start small and then all decide together what rules or how big we want to make it, after a few races.

Good idea, so let's get a power hour organised using the Formula A's (can't decide if there should be an apostrophe there or not) and have ABS on for pad users.
I'm working lates all week so won't be able to race, but go ahead this week if you want. :)

I haven't had a go yet but if you friend everyone in the group you'll be able to see everyone's times using the new friends only leaderboard feature.

Actually, during the community events I haven't been able to find friends only feature, only on time trial. I have like a top 100 time on the new CC 👍

Can abs be on when the real car doesn't have it? I tried turning it on for some cars when we had the track day but nothing showed on the HUD. The track day had all AIDS allowed.

If you set the lobby up so that ABS is allowed then it should work. You should be able to toggle ABS, TC & Stability on and off independently regardless if the real car has it or not. Remember each user has their own settings and if set to real then that's the maximum amount of aids you can have regardless of the lobby settings.

Ever since they fixed the corner cutting problems with 3.0 Hotlapping has been a very enjoyable experience 👍 Football, I saw your time with the F1 GTR Long Tail on Donnington, care to help me out? ;) Also, This Community challenge with the lotus on Silverstone is fun, Currently in 90th or so, looking to try on different tyres, heard that's where the faster times were coming from, I'm 3 or so seconds off pace from top 10 time (which apparently the tyres make that difference)

Ok. Thanks for that kk.

Random question for you guys: what's your time on the "seasonal" event on silver stone with the Lotus 49?

I've only tried a quick (slow) couple of laps on the controller. I think I was approx 1:14, about 8 seconds away from the top time but was just happy to complete a lap. I'll try again with a tune and try the better tyres.

Hey I'm aiming to have lobby open a few mins before 6.
Message me for invites.
May need help on screenshot results depends on numbers.
Looking forward to racing.
