Crazy ads.

Sometimes this can be with an app you have downloaded. Check what you've installed recently, that could be the culprit. If not, there's something out of whack somewhere.

Edit Or it could be the widespread issue being spoken about in the other Site Support thread.
I haven't installed anything recently. And it wouldn't be the first time shady ads have made their way here.

Thanks again for all the reports, guys. I've been working with the ad provider all day to figure out how these are getting through. They have new ad scanning technology which is getting installed tomorrow which should help fight this.

Until then, I have temporarily disabled all advertising on our forum pages if you are signed into your account. I am sorry for the trouble.

No problem. Glad to hear you have it under control. This isn't the first time sketchy ads have slipped through here.

On my Windows 10 Desktop PC, I wasn't logged in yet but on the main menu page and I got re-directed to a Windows 10 Congratulations page with loud speaking audio. I couldn't get out of and it froze my Chrome page. I couldn't take a screen shot but went in to history to find the link if it helps but I think it was the bywinners? one that got through my virus and anti spyware...

You might want to take a closer look at your system; I just did some research on that and it is frequently reported. It seems to be a symptom of malware installed on the computer, possibly a compromised Chrome extension.

Thanks Jordan, I have run an anti-spyware scan offline and cleared everything. Hopefully it doesn't come back ! 👍

Got another redirect whilst browsing a thread. Didn't have to click or move the mouse at all either.

Nothing "crazy" per se, but these ads are showing up on article pages even though I'm a Premium member.

Administrator: please delete my account. Too many ads, can't even read or post in forums without phone being attacked

Patience, i'm sure Jordan will sort it out soon. It's possible your device could be infected with malware, I recommend clearing your browser history, cache and all that related stuff.

Also:
Deleting Your GTPlanet Account

For record-keeping and accountability, user accounts are not deleted from GTPlanet. If you no longer wish to be a part of the community, stop visiting the site. Requests for “temporary” account banishment will be ignored.

Thank you @Jordan for everything you do with this site. In hindsight, I grossly overreacted to the ads that were frustrating me a while back. As much as I enjoy this site, as much time as I spend on here, a Premium membership is just a good way to show appreciation as well as continue to support you and the others that keep GTPlanet functioning.

Sometimes I get hotheaded when I feel valuable time is getting wasted, which isn't an excuse, but an observation. I apologize if I came off offensive. You certainly deserve our respect and appreciation.

I hope you and your family have a happy holiday season. I sincerely wish you the best.

Getting a couple of issues for a few days.

Autoplay video ad's starting on their own after a certain amount of time, and scrolling the page to the advert.

Bigger problem is with this...

In the time it took me to type a response in the GTS liveries thread, the page transferred 20mb of information in the background, it'll sit here doing it (as it is now too), until Chrome grinds to a halt, and errors. You can see the traffic, the number of requests and the bandwidth in this screen shot.

I am getting the same issue on Chrome today. What is EVEN more irritating though (and I put this down to a glitch or down to the ads themselves, not the fault of the site, is that the ads reload OVER and OVER and OVER again. So, while you are trying to type a post for about 3 minutes (e.g. like I just did), the ad will hijack the page and send you to the top of it about 4 or 5 times, meaning if you are not careful you end up typing rubbish .

I've had an ad load 3 times while just typing this report! It's not even an interesting ad

Can anyone check and advise if this is just an issue with Chrome or does it happen with other browsers as well?

Yep, that's exactly how it is for me. It's not all the time though weirdly, but I do only get it on GTP. edit: That might be a red herring though, I don't go to many sites where I'd get this problem anyway, so it might still be a Chrome issue I guess.

I have never seen that happen in Chrome. Can you clarify your position on the page is "jumped" to the top of the ad in question?

Thanks for the reply @Jordan .

The page loads. There is a pause of some seconds with no adverts, during which time I am usually reading the posts or starting my own posts. The ad then starts at the top of the page and wherever you are on the page, the tab moves you directly to the ad, there is no apparent way to prevent this as it overrides wherever you are on the page . You then have to scroll back down to where you are, sometimes it takes more than one button press to get the page to scroll down again.

When the ad finishes, the same ad restarts at the top of the page and the tab moves you back to the ad. It doesn't happen every time or on every page bizarrely.

It was persistent yesterday and I think it was the same advert loading and repeating each time. I will check again tonight when I am home, if I can.

Thanks again.

It holds you hostage until you close the tab. Yes, I’m logged into my [Premium] account.

When I tap “close”, of course it doesn’t, LOLOL, stupid of me to think it would.

Trying to browse while on iphone is damn near impossible, I even tried logging in and get the same pop ups. I had to resort to getting an ad blocker just to make this post. Here are a couple screen shots.

I'm getting a new one (two really--Allstate and Subway--the latter en español) floating up from the bottom of the screen [on mobile, Google], large enough to cover the Contact/F.A.Q/AUP/Privacy links at the bottom of the forum TOC. No new installs in the last week and first encountered it about an hour ago.

New non-Premium ad function or something to be concerned about?

You might see something like that if you aren’t signed in to your account. Are you?

As long as my browser's up.

I was about to add that it's intermittent and hasn't interfered with post composition, but it's doing so as I compose this edit.

I've been getting these now on the desktop site, these look like real ads, but it looks like it uses the Google Ad API functions, and I have to click the X to get it out of the way of posting stuff into GTP. Here are some images.

^ I too just got this new sticky ad. "Close Ad" actually closes the ad, but the ad itself isn't that intrusive. Although it does completely cover the information at the bottom of the page.

No option to close on my end, unless I need to flip the phone to landscape to see it. Should note that I haven't seen it since the current site visit, however it hasn't loaded fully and I'm seeing Times New Roman as I write this.

Edit: I can close them if I flip to landscape--not nearly so bothered by them with this knowledge.
