(Hey, I was bored.)

Alright, now you have the chance to create the ultimate band. It doesn't really matter if the musicians wouldn't "mesh" with each other, just put together the best people you can think of. :)

You have to name a/the:
  • Genre of music you would want them to play.
  • Lead Singer
  • Guitarist
  • Bassist
  • Drummer
  • And the reasons you picked the members that you did.

Alright - here's mine.

Genre - Whatever Tool is.
Singer - Maynard James Keenan of Tool. He has such an awesome voice, and it's so versitile. He can go from talking to screaming his lungs out in no time.
Guitarist - Eddie Van Halen - the best guitarist in the history of music. Period. (I told you they didn't have to mesh. ;))
Bassist - Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers - really good bass player, give him a Tool bass and it would sound so cool it wouldn't be funny.
Drummer - Danney Carey of Tool. His stuff really goes with the flow of the music.

Well, there's mine, what's yours? :)

Genre: Everything and anything under the sun. The more genre-meshing the better. Just as long as it sounds good.
Lead Singer: Steven Morrissey because he has the best voice ever.
Guitarist: Jimi Hendrix because he is the best guitarist ever
Bassist: Jaco Pastorius because he is the best bassist ever.
Drummer: Jon Bonham because he is the best drummer ever.
Backup Singer: Mark Sandman because he so obviously rules He could also play the standup bass if it were needed in a certain song.

GENRE: Hotel lobby

LEAD SINGER: Robert Goulet

LEAD PIANIST:Bert Bacharach

LEAD CELLO: PAKO (no slap-cello please)

DRUMMER: Animal (chains on)

I believe this accomplished quartet could re-define music as we know it. Bigger than Jesus:D

Indie Rock

Lead Singer - Neil Young - intense lyrics, intense voice, great guitar work: Cortez the Killer

Guitarist - J Mascis - easily one of the greats...

Bassist/Guitarist - Doug Martsch - great voice, great guitar work, what more can you ask for?

Drummer - Keith Moon - Fans of the Who will agree... though I'd choose Murph from Dinosaur Jr for songs that require a steady beat...

Genre: Country Rock/ballad

Lead Singer: Don Henley or Travis Tritt

Lead Guitar: Johnny Lang

Rhythm/Lead Guitar: Joe Walsh and Glenn Frey.

Keyboard/Backup vocals: Dr John.

Drums/Vocals: Don Henley

Bass: Bernie Leadon (look it up)

Genre: Anything and everything, but mainly funk, and rock.
Singer: Singer from The Mars Volta (don't know his name), because he has such a unique and great singing voice.
Guitarist:Tom Morrello , because he's very imginative and I'd say probably the one of the best guitarists around to this day.
Basist: Flea from the Red Hot Chili's again, because he's the daddy of funk and an amazing basist.
Drums: Brad Wilk/Chad from Rage and Chili's. Can't decide which one though.

Gil: Your lead/rythm guitarist in your list. My dad had to do some work for Fender recently and part of it was to take Joe Walsh's picture holding a Strat. My dad met the bloke and did a half hour photo shoot with/of him. Apparantly he was more spaced out than Ozzie Osbourne. :)

Genre: Rock (Any kind)
Singer: Steve Miller
Guitarist: Jimi Hendrix
Bassist: Geddy Lee
Drummer: Dave Grohl

Changed from Jello Biafra to Steve Miller. Gil reminded me.

Does anyone else feel that "Jungle Love" is Steve Miller's worst song ever? And his most played? I sure do.

That may be so, but you won't meet anyone old enough to remember "Hotel California" that can't sing the outro guitar solo note for note..

If he falls through for my band, Steve Miller could be his second.
He's cool simply because his guitar teacher was some old guy named Les Paul.

Singer: Thom Yorke (Radiohead), great singer, though Maynard was close.
Lead Guitarist: Eddie Van Halen, best ever
Bass: Flea, or Justin Chancellor (mispelled that) 'cause they both rule.
Drummer: Mark Jones. Famous? Nah, but he's my drum teacher, and he's the best I've ever heard. He is currently touring with the Jimmy Van Zandt band.

What do you mean no slap-cello? Picatto slap is the only way to really feel your way around a funky cello if you get my jive. ;)

Genre - Unknown
Lead Vocals - Bradley Nowell of Sublime, and Bob Marley
Guitar - Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine, just listening to him on their first album makes my jaw drop
Bass - Timmy C From Rage Against The Machine...the way his bass goes along with Morello's guitar is amazing...Flea is incredible, too.
Drums: Brooks Wackerman of Bad Religion fame...the drums on Bad Religion albums are always amazing and completely solid.

Genre-Rock
Lead Singer-Brandon Boyd or Chris Cornell
Guitarist- Eric Clapton or Tom Morello (if I could pick anybody, alive or dead, it'd be Stevie Ray Vaughn or Randy Rhoads)
Bass-Flea
Dummer-Danney Carey or Dave Grohl

Man, what the hell was I thinking back then?

Oh well, I thought this thread was cool so I figured I'd bring it back and change my first entry.

Lead Vocals - Mick Jagger (The Rolling Stones)
Guitar - Stevie Ray Vaughn
Bass - Flea (2nd option, Les Claypool of Primus) (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
Drums - Neil Peart (Rush)

Heh, much better.

If this came true, members would kill each other:

Crispin Mills - vocals/guitar(kula shaker, jeevas)
Damon Albarn - vocals/keyboard(blur)
Noel Gallagher - vocals/guitar(oasis)
????????????? - bass
Zak Starkey - drums(the who, oasis)

an attempt at one-

genre- metal, something akin to KillSwitch Engage (if you want to call it emo metal go ahead, i still dont get how KSE are emo to some people)

lead vocalist - Howard Jones (KillSwitch Engage)
vocalist/guitarist - Matt Heafy (Trivium)
guitarist - Synister Gates (Avenged Sevenfold)
guitarist - Joel Stroetzel (KillSwitch Engage)
bassist - Mark Mcknight (Atreyu)
drums - Raymond Herrera (Fear Factory), just over Travis Smith (Trivium)

thoughts-
could you imagine the powerful vocals of both Howard Jones and Matt Heafy combined?
3 guitarists? yeah, its a few, but theres a method to this madness. Joel Stroetzel of KSE provides the foundation for hard, fast riffs, and chunky breakdowns, along with Matt Heafy of Trivium, it makes for a heavy, hard edged power metal sound. heafy is probably one of the most talented and complete guitarists I've heard of recent, along with Synister Gates of Avenged Sevenfold they would be ripping out amazing solos to top off the sound of the band.
bassist was a hard choice, the bassist's of Trivium, Avenged Sevenfold, KillSwitch Engage among others were thought of, but i went with Mark Mcknight of Atreyu, for his on stage antics if not skill.
A few years ago this would be an easy choice, Raymond Herrera (Fear Factory) hands down, but after listening to Trivium's latest album Ascendency i was blown away by the drumbeats layed down by Travis Smith, if Raymond Herrera was the king, his heir is undoubtedly Travis Smith.

So who was unlucky-
vocals - lead singer of 'I Killed the Prom Queen', name escapes me. one of very few that i would judge above Howard Jones and Matt Heafy as far as screaming goes, but for the almost old school power metal style sound I'm thinking of he doesnt have a powerful enough singing voice compared to Jones and Heafy
guitarist - Corey Beaulieu (Trivium) & Zacky Vengeance (Avenged Sevenfold). Both amazing soloist's, in all truthfulness, theres jsut not enough spots for them, I could take Zacky Vengeance or Synister gates, they are both very similar, very skilled guitarist, flip of the coin really. Corey Beaulieu, same story, could have replaced Joel Stroetzel but it would have left the band a bit light in what i like to call the 'chunk' section.
Bassist - Any of a number of candidates could fill this spot easily, lottery really
Drums - as aforementioned, comes down to two, Herrera and Smith, Herrera's incredible blast beats and ultra fast yet well controlled double kicks got him over the line.

there it is. Heavy, yet melodic, breakdowns, blast beats, power chords, solos galore.

Vocals- Robert Plant
Lead guitar- Jimmy Page
Bass- John Paul Jones
Drums- John Bonham

Damn, that's just Led Zeppelin...:ouch:

Vocals: J.C. Fogerty
Lead guitar 1: Mark Knopfler
Lead guitar 2: J.C. Fogerty
Rhythm guitar. Tom Fogerty
Background vocals: Mark Knopfler
Drums: Doug Clifford
Bass. Stu Cook

OK, it's just CCR with Mark Knopfler playing lead guitar (and bringing some Dire Straits sound in), but I believe this would be the ultimate blues rock group.

I've run this idea through my head many times, although almost everytime I come up with something different. So, here's my list for now...

Genre: Hard Rock

Lead Vocals: Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin)
Lead Guitar: Eddie Van Halen (Van Halen)
Rhythm Guitar: Keith Richards (The Rolling Stones)
Bass Guitar: John Entwhistle (The Who)
Keyboards: John Lord (Deep Purple)
Drums/Percussion: Neil Peart (Rush)

I always only use 1 member from a band (otherwise all my lists would just be various mixes of Rush, Zeppelin, and a few other bands). If I had decided to break that rule for this band, I probably would have swapped Entwhistle for Geddy Lee so I could keep Rush's rhythm section intact.

Ok my turn...

Genre: Political/Alt rock

Vocals: Serj Tanakian of SOAD quite simply because he can go from melodies to screamy s**t nice broad range as such.

Guitarist: Tom Morello of Audioslave because he makes sound no-one else can do, he has practially re-invented the whammy pedal. He is also political as ****!

Bassist: The bassist from SOAD... ive forgotten his name... :ouch: but he plays as fast as hell (as seen in question) but can also play nice rythmic lines as seen in Ariels!.

Drummer: Brad Wilk of Audioslave, he gives his heart into every live show Audioslave play in, not to mention he is good at the stuff too..

Wow maybe i should call them Audio system of a slave....

Do the players have to be alive?

Type of band: Most awesome rock supergroup ever.

Jimi Hendrix - #1guitar/voice/creative talent (as if any guitar player has half of Hendrix's soul/vision. The guy has serious voodoo.)

Steve Vai - hired gun for impossible guitar parts (For his sheer facility on the instrument. Any trick or tone that would be needed Vai could pull off very easily- including anything Morello/van halen. I'd also just like to see him jam with Jimi...:):) )

Billy Sheehan - bass (Flea is nothing compared to this dude. See this guy play bass and you can easily dismiss any other rock bass player)
I nearly chose Jaco but I thought Billy a better choice for a rock band.

Mitch Mitchell - drums. I like a more jazzy type drummer that still works really well in a rock setting. He was perfect for The Experience - I don't want a drummer thats too heavy handed...

Mark Knopfler - singer/songwriter/producer/arbiter of good taste (used to keep excessive shredding/wailing in check, to have all mastering and editing responsibilities - makes sure the songs are all good ones etc. Will tell Vai off if he uses any guitar tones that sound too sick-bag-weird or plays too cheesily (in 80s hair metal fashion) etc. Will tell Hendrix off if he sets his guitar on fire too often or is too stoned to play well. )

There really are a million of these bands you could create if you wanted different genres etc.

hehehehe.....
Genre: Whatever the hell they wanna be..

Lead singer: Danny Filth (From Cradle Of Filth)
Guitarist: Daron Malakian (from SOAD)
Rhythm guitar: Jack White ( The White Stripes)
Drums: Lars Ulrich (Metallica..... Of Course
Bass: Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers)

Hmm... It may rule but It'd never work... Dani Filth Would scare the crap outta Jack White, Lars Ulrich would blame napster, and Flea would scream like a monkey at Daron.

Genre: Orchestrated Operetic Hop-Rock

Singer: Luciano Pavarotti
MC: Wheelie Cyberman (Optimus Rhyme)
Violin: Andre Rieu
Cello: Yue Tang (My nextdoor neighbor. hahaha.)
Guitar: Steve Vai.
Drums: That guy from Foghat. That's my drummer. I don't know his name, but he's real good. *duhgga dugh dugghaga, duhgga dugh dugghaga* Yeah. The guy from Foghat.

Vocals: Gavin Hayes (Dredg)
Guitar: Al Di Mearo - for his sheer talent and diverse playing styles. His clean sounds would compliment Gavin's voice quite nicely
Drums: Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater)
Bass: Anyone really - I haven't heard many that I *really* like... well, maybe the guy from Audioslave

Style: blues/jazz rock - rich and deep vocals, awe inspiring guitar playing, and an insanely talented drummer. What more could you ask for?
