Guitarist #1: Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society, Ozzy, Pride & Glory and played with Derek Sherinian)
Guitarist #2: Robert Flynn (Machine Head, Vio-Lence)
Guitarist #3: Adam Duce (Machine Head, Vio-Lence)

My shorts are already ruined... :(

Genre: Rock
Vocals: Iggy Pop (The Stooges)
Guitar: Stevie Ray Vaughan
Rhythm Guitar: Pete Townshend (The Who)
Bassist: Roger Waters (Pink Floyd)
Drummer: Keith Moon (The Who)

Sadly 2 of them aren't around anymore

Vocals: Stevie Nicks (Fleetwood Mac)
Lead Guitar: John Fogerty (CCR)
Rhythm Guitar: Tom Fogerty (CCR)
Bass: John McVie (Fleetwood Mac)
Drums: John Bonham (Led Zeppelin)

Lead guitar: Tony Palacios (Guardian)
Rhythm Guitar: Jimmy P. Brown III (Deliverance)
Bass: Manny Morales (Deliverance)
Drums: Aaron Smith (77's)

haha.. now I am feeling nostalgic.

Lead Vocals: John Fogerty (CCR)
Lead Guitar: Jimi Hendrix
Rhythm Guitar: Eric Clapton
Bass: John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin)
Drums: John Bonham (Led Zeppelin)

Vocals/Keyboard: Matthew Bellamy - Muse or Thom Yorke
Lead Guitar: Satch
Rhythm Guitar: Petrucci
Bass: John Myung - Dream Theater
Drums: Mike Portnoy - Liquid Tension Experiment (already in a supergroup..)

Genre: Everything that is hard rock and metal. Because they're that awesome.

Male Vocals: Layne Staley (Sure, Cobain could play guitar left handed, but I like Layne's voice better.)
Male Vocals: Ronnie Van Zant
Female Vocals: Liv Kristine
Guitar: Jimi Hendrix
Guitar: Randy Rhoads (Because I'm so awesome, I can bring people back from the dead)
Bass: Cliff Burton
Drums: John Bonham
Keyboards/Misc. instruments: Edgar Winter (Frankenstein. End discussion)

Drums: Mike Portnoy - Liquid Tension Experiment (already in a supergroup..)

Why did you label the other two DT bands but Portnoy as LTE specially as DT is much more active... Not trying to nitpick it just raised an eyebrow.

Genre: Heavy Metal/Hard Rock
Vocals (2, in fact): Ivan Moody (Five Finger Death Punch)
Guitar: Dan Jacobs (Atreyu) and Synyster Gates (Avenged Sevenfold)
Bassist: John Myung (Dream Theater)
Drummer: Dave Mackintosh (Dragonforce)

Why I picked them: Ivan Moody has the ability to sing and scream/growl, something which very few vocalists can do (Corey Taylor among them). Jacobs and Gates are both used to playing with another guitarist, and they both have a similar style and skill level. Myung may not fit here, but his basslines are a prominent part of Dream Theater's best songs. Dave Mackintosh is probably one of the fastest drummers out there who can still keep the beats even - usually, when double bass drummers start going really fast, the beats start getting really uneven and scattered.

I cant believe you guys!Dont see Neil Peart in sight!

John Myung-Bass.Dream Theater
Neil Peart-Drums.Rush
Geddy Lee-Vocals.Rush
Ian Anderson-Flute.Jethro Tull (Couldnt resist)
David Gilmour-Guitar.Pink Floyd

Lead vocals: Ronnie Van Zant (Lynyrd Skynyrd)
Lead guitar: Stevie Ray Vaughn
Rhythm guitar: Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin)
Bass: Rick Savage (Def Leppard)
Drums: Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac)

Genre - Psychedelic Rock
Vocalist: Roger Waters/David Gilmour/Richard Wright
Bass: Roger Waters
Guitar: David Gilmour
Keyboard: Richard Wright
Drum: Nick Mason

Oh wait...

In my opinion the most complete band ever. Everything Roger Waters wrote was basically a masterpiece. The band also used the first keyboard ever to use its sounds and syncronize them into a song. (On the run) These 4 men are the gods of psychedelic rock, and those of my music. David Gilmour has to be mixed with Richard Wright, it's his natural habitat. Live this band outplays any band, any. The effects, the quality of vocals, backing vocals, instruments, and aything else you can think of.

Seriously, find me any guitar that sounds better then Gilmour's candy apple red Strat with EMG-SA pick-ups. You can try, but I don't think you'll be able to find an answer.

Its more then just the Guitar... and in the world of guitar... Zakk Wydle is the man.

Nope, not good enough.

Its a completely different style of music.. You can't compare.. But you went out and said that everything he has done sounds better then any other guitarist ever..

IMO Zakk Wylde, Robb Flynn, Dino Cazares, Kerry King, and Darrell Abbott are better guitarist. Its why the 80's and 90's were the best decades in music..

Its all personal music preference and you can't go out on a limb and say that X guitarist is the best ever... None of the people would of been able to do what David but he couldn't begin to perform what above artist did with the same brutal energy.. Now if you want to talk about progressive rock... Well then you would have an argument but its much closer still then you make it out to be..

I said "find a guitar that sounds better", not "find anything Gilmour hasn't beaten yet." You twisted what I said.

Well wouldn't a good guitarist sound better then a bad one?

I could sit here and name a hundred guitarist that I think sound better... My point still stands.

Then I think we'll call it a day and keep our opinions for us ;)

Hendrix? The Beatles? Led Zeppelin? The Rolling Stones? There are no 'best' decades in music, otherwise you could go as far as saying that godknowswhat BC was the best decade for music as everything was original back then. That list (and the proceeding statement) you just rattled off there makes you look like a 13 year old metalhead who thinks there's nothing else but metal, that may not be the case, but it's such a sweeping, ignorant statement to make.

And please, wanking off a thousand notes per second does not make for a good solo. It's about passion. It's about capturing the feel of a song. It's about the phrasing, and few do it better than Gilmour.

No, saying Herman Li, Dan Donegan, James Shaffer and James Root are the best guitarist make me look like a 13 year old metalhead.

Thanks for reviving an already dead argument. I stand by my original statement.. Still.

And NONE of the guitarist do a million notes a second.. Your passing off stereotypes as facts. It shows how ignorant you really are about this crap. Not only that your making a bunch of unnecessary assumptions about what I listen to.. My music taste is hardly limited to Metal... I love just about every genre of music except a few obvious ones. It just so happens that Metal makes me feel ridiculously amazing every time I listen to it. Nothing I can help.

And FYI I grew up listening to Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin... And I still love them. I personally don't like Hendrix, Stones or The Beatles.. So sue me.

Every person I mentioned at the time went against the current flow of music to do what they loved.. If that's not passion then nothing is.

I'm not saying they are the true best.. Maybe read all my posts next time.. It would help if you actually read everything I had to say instead of making assumptions and passing on false stereotypes.

Nope, you still sound like one. Regardless who you listed, the fact that you only listed metal guitarists allowed me to make that assumption about you.

Never was dead in the first place. Bram just couldn't be arsed. :P

Don't take hyperbole as gospel truth.

Love the use of irony there. 👍

And I'm not railing against you for that. But claiming that those guys are better than Gilmour... It's a bit like comparing an F40 to a Veyron... Sure the Veyron is a technical feat, and you can see passion has gone into it, but it just doesn't evoke that feeling of raw, heart-on-your sleeve emotion you get with the F40. You see that in all of Gilmour's work, he has a brilliant understanding of texture and contrast. I've listened to my fair share of metal, and after a while it sounds pretty much the same. I'm not saying most of it is crap, but by god a lot of it is pretty generic.

Every person I mentioned at the time went against the current flow of music to do what they loved.. If that's not passion then nothing is.

It's about expressing that passion, it's clear to see that they do posses it, it's just that they've managed to sacrifice emotional articulation for technical prowess.
