Curbing reactions in GT6

I agree regarding the 'speed bumps' on chicanes at Monza etc. - these should really be a hindrance to you, but at present they are of no concern at all. Not sure what can be done about that though, without it feeling too exaggerated when you go over one.

Regarding the kerbs especially at Nurburgring.. You can attack all of them, heavily, even on stock suspension - e.g. the big kerb on the way up to the Adenauer Forst 'chicane' - that is a big kerb, but I've thrown my road car over that kerb for lap after lap and it's 100% fine, doesn't unsettle the car nearly as much as you'd expect it to. Ultimately the kerbs are rounded, and so the car 'drives' over them rather than 'hitting' them.

The only sort of kerbs that should cause a major reaction should be the 'sausage' style kerbs - good example is the ones at Silverstone on the GT6 demo, those big red sausage kerbs should have caused a much bigger reaction because the car will 'hit' them in real life rather than drive over them.

I agree, it's far too easy to ride curbs in GT and unrealistic, but I suspect it'll always be that way to keep the casual players from abandoning the game because realism might be too hard. Our only hope is the once mentioned "hardcore mode" but it's pure speculation what it means at this point.

Just to be honest unless the kerbing is wet or a steep angle, you can ride them all day in the real world without any repercussions whatsoever. In fact using the kerbing opens up your radius so much that if you don't use them (even just gaining a couple inches) you probably wont be in the top 5. I find the Kerbing in GT5 to be pretty analogous.

Or the ones at Spa... BIG parking block style "spead breaks" and you can pretty much drive right over them... unless you're in a Kart :mischievous:

Of course those in particular I've only driven over to see what they would do.

Even at the Nurb in the videos above, most guys don't ride most of the curbs, they only ride the ones with flat concrete behind them. In GT you can ride any curb, anywhere, any time it seems without consequence, at worst a slight lift. That isn't exactly realistic, but I think it's a comprimise between realism and practicality that PD made to keep the casual gamers happy.

This thread is full of so much win right now... And a general consensus: if a curb is three feet tall, drivers should not be able to use it.

However, in ITCC, the fastest 5 drivers spend every corner at Trial Mountain on two wheels. I love the two-wheeling it at Trial Mountain, from the final chicane, and the first few corners...

Fact is, though, I set the car up to be balanced over the curbs, that's why I got the three podiums. There was a BMW that was often unsettled over the bumps, and couldn't attack them enough.

So, I like GT5's system, but I hope GT6 just steps up the curb-hopping difficulty.

Edit: Johnny..........

Reminds me when riding the curb on Ferrari The Race Experience, the car unsettled harshly and loses speed + balance easily, GT5 do not have this, GT6 should have at least like in Ferrari TRE ( great fun even with slow legend AI )

Part of the issue is tires as well. Most people don't take a 458 to the 'Ring on CS tires, they are out there on RS most of the time which stick like glue to grass, curbs, track, air, sand etc. On more realistic tires the curbs are more of an issue but still not enough IMO.

In GT5 it is more due to the flaws in suspension and tire model IMO, cars have very firm perfect dampers and tires stick to the curb surface. I always wished the suspension reaction could be like in Ferrari TRE :)

The new suspension model might hold some promise then and move us towards realism.

I don't think I've ever used RS tires other than one time in a NASCAR room where they forced it.

RS bring no joy man, no joy.

Well there is a discomfort factor in real life going over curbs at race speed - something we don't need to bother with in the virtual world :)

I remeber someone here who tried the Bathurst demo said he tipped his car over by hitting the curbs too hard

To be honest, I'm not sure how much of a difference that makes. Having just returned from the Rally of the Tall Pines, I saw cars hitting lots of jumps and landing in awkward ways - the drivers only slowed if the car was damaged.

When I was out at Mosport, I didn't even feel the curbs much.

I don't mind if you back up what you're saying with proof or examples, but you're taking it for granted that people care about being "discomforted" when they're on a racetrack... We don't.
