Oh the irony, I buy TDU2 so I have something new to play only to realise when I start playing that it's 50% online based, foolish me.

Oh, everyone just quit whinging. So PSN went down and will be for the forseeable future. Big deal. It's just video games.

Which is why I will never trust the cloud. How do you know these data centers will be private, secure and operational forever? I grew up in the era of storing your own stuff in your own house so no thank you Mr Cloud!

I take it that you don't have a bank account then?

The cloud can fail. The internet can turn off.

If the internet shuts down, the "pr0n" you lost in the cloud will be the least of your problems...

I don't know about you, but when I bought my video game, I was expecting to be able to play it whenever I wanted to.

What you're doing is essentially crying over spilt milk. Whatever the problem with PSN is, it's obviously serious. And it's quit clear that Sony are doing everything in their power to fix it as soon as humanly possible, though it's fairly obvious some of you seem to think they're just sitting around laughing at you. What isn't helping the situation is the way everyone is bitching and moaning about it, issuing ultimatums and threatening to defect to another console platform if Sony don't magically fix the problem. Especially since they don't come here (and if they did, you'd all be pointing out the way the time would be better spent finding a solution). You demand answers but offer no solutions, so what you're effectively doing is moaning for the sake of moaning. PSN is down. It's a serious problem. They're dealing with it. The last thing they need is a bunch of internet warriors declaring jihad. If you can't be a problem, be a part of the solution. And if you want something else to do, go and read a good book.

This is an interesting find. I wonder if it had anything to do with the PSN outage.

I'm sure they are doing whatever they can to fix it. I'm also fully aware there's no point in whining about it.

But hey, I have a video game I pretty much can't play. I'm not happy. At all. Neither are a lot of other PS3 gamers. So they vent their frustration off. It's only natural, helps to deal with the situation really.

Anyway, no matter how you put it, sony screwed up. Royally. If they let it happen once, you can't help but wonder if it will happen again. And I'm not sure if I ever want to put up with this again.

Most of the time, bugs in the system - large or small, curable, chronic or fatal - are the result of a set of conditions that were never anticiapted and thus never compensated for simply because nobody even realised the loopholes were there. Nobody thought to check, simply because it never occurred to anyone that it could potentially be a problem. It's not really anybody's fault, even if the glitch is obvious in retrospect. It's like the brouhaha over the Millenium Bug: when computers were invented, nobody was thinking about the year 2000. It was so far away that it didn't seem like a problem that had to be addressed at the time, assuming somebody picked up on it in the 1980s. Whatever Sony do to fix PSN will no doubt cover this to prevent it from happening again, but that doesn't mean there is not the potential for other, similar critical faults to be discovered.

If you're really so upset about it, find a constructive use of your energies. Read a good book. I know dozens that I could recommend.

I don't know about you, but when I bought my video game, I was expecting to be able to play it whenever I wanted to.

Most video games can be played offline. So if the specific one you have is online only (like DC Universe or something), find another game to play. Or do something else, unrelated to video games. Wash your car, clean your room, read a book, talk to people.

As has been said before, Sony is doing everything in their power to fix this problem and ensure it doesn't happen again. No service is perfect. And it's free. PS+ users are the only ones I see that deserve some kind of compensation for their downtime, seeing as it's completely useless for them right now.

Just to add, I haven't whinged or moaned
Then what have you been doing in this thread, exactly?

Right. You've been accusing people who think differently to you of trolling. Because that always ends well. Be glad that I gave up being a moderator.

I beg to differ. Such a huge design flaw can't go by unnoticed for so long it ends up causing a major system failure like this. The one you mentioned certainly wasn't unnoticed. Anyway, it's not like the service Sony provide is uncharted territory and they just encountered an unpredictable obstacle. It's more like they tripped in a stone thousands who came before them were able to avoid. I'm quite certain Sony itself is not calling this nobody's fault. Hell, they must be more pissed than their whole consumer base combined. I'm sure they will find out the incompetents responsible and those will pay dearly. As sony is paying right now for being incompetent enough to hire them.

Reading Musashi right now, by the way.

Thanks for taking the time to find an interest in me.

What, the 0.4seconds of effort I put in to look at your profile and see what other garbage you've been spewing (such as your repeated attempts of creating vaguely disguised PSN outage threads which Famine has already told you off about) and general trolling behaviour. I would keep going, but you aren't worth the additional 0.6second of effort.

.... here's something on topic: ;)

PSN hackers attacked Admin Dev accounts, services returning in a day or two, SCEE source claims

A source with close connections to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe reports that the attack to the PlayStation Network may be a bit deeper than originally reported by Sony. According to the source, who wishes to remain anonymous, the PSN sustained a LOIC attack (which created a denial-of-service attack) that damaged the server. There was also a concentrated attack on the PlayStation servers holding account information. In addition, “Admin Dev accounts were breached.”

As a result, “Sony then shut down the PSN and [is] currently in the process of restoring backups to new servers with new admin dev accounts.” The SCEE source said Japanese servers may be restored tomorrow while the U.S. and E.U. servers will likely be operational the following day.

While this information is only corroborated via a series of Facebook messages, it is certainly not a stretch. Sony Computer Entertainment America recently confirmed that it pulled down the PSN because of an “external intrusion.” This essentially means that hackers were to blame. Sony is officially conducting a thorough investigation. The PSN and Qriocity services were pulled offline by Sony on Wednesday, April 20.

There was plenty of speculation late this week that the Anonymous hackers group was to blame for the PSN downtime. The group previously targeted Sony in retaliation to the legal action against another hacker. Anonymous has since denied involvement in the current PSN downtime.

Again, this information is from a source who claims to have a very close connection with someone at SCEE. We take these reports for what they are at this time, but it is certainly a possibility. If you have information to share, please do so.

Oh, and Anonymous want to start their next attack as soon as the PSN is up again. Looks like it will be a looong story. I should better pimp my PC & go back to BFBC2 till the war is over.

PSN already said on their blog that they were just rebuilding the network?

Obvious troll is obvious.

Nice job describing yourself!

But seriously, I really don't think I've seen any real contributions to you in any thread you've posted...

Day or Two? At least SCEE are giving us a time frame. In the meantime i'm going to dust off COD4 and play it through again, something to pass the time!:)

Most of the people I know bought the PS3 for one game, Socom. Confrontation is a strictly online only game, and the new socom wasn't bought for the single player. There are no other games to play on the PS3 for the people I know. As far as finding othe things to do, when I pay as much as I have for the PS3 (which I have bought twice now) I expect it to work all the time.

When was this messaged? It could've been Wednesday and still nothing. Or maybe yesterday and we could have PSN tommorow. But I take it with a grain of salt...

Unfortunately, I already finished the astonishingly long 4 hours single player campaign of all the games I have, so...

Anyway, this "do something else" argument is moot. I'm expressing my frustration of not being able to do a specific something. How is "do something else" going to help me with this problem?

It's new, only some hours old. Tomorrow should be Japans PSN back and tuesday US & EU's PSN.

Tuesday huh? Well at least we got a timeframe of sorts, assuming this info is correct. It's all good though because the outage allowed me more time for my madden franchise, road to the show mode on mlb 10, and I finished the campaign for killzone 3.

Wellll this attack certainly makes tons of sense. A bunch of nerds destroying the internet. Specifically a video-game server. :ouch:

Oh, and the EU blog has the green light again for PSN being on. I think they must be testing or something.

I'm going to run the 4 Hours of Nurburgring tonight. Should be a good time. 👍

What you doing it in? Lemme guess...a Lexus? Or some sort of tuner car.

Don't really know what to do now on GT5. Might just...chill out here for a while.

First I'm going to take a drive out to the local lake that's back in a canyon. Need to see some nature in me after being stuck in the city for too long.

And not sure which car I'm going to use, probably the Tommi Makinen Evo VI.

Pay no attention to that, one article it's on and if you switch to another article it's off. Checking uk.playstation.com seems to be more reliable for service status checking.
