CVG are known Xbox fanboys... I'd pretty much ignore anything they say...

In fact - I'm surprised that they even have a story about it today - they're usually a week out of date.

It's been delayed so much, we almost didn't believe it when we discovered that Gran Turismo 5 - NOT Prologue, but the actual sequel - was playable on the Gamescom show floor.

Delay? - what delay? - They cleary know f all about GT5.
 
Most significant sentence of them all:

"A Sony rep also told us that crashing too much could result in terminal damage ending our race early.."

Mechanical damage pretty much confirmed.

Indeed - the only thing of any worth in that article... and that their car could only manage 140KPH after too much stacking.

Spotted the same one. This is great news, though, one I've certainly been hoping to hear!

And for others, I wouldn't bash too hard on CVG, obviously they weren't that familiar with the GT series, but I saw nothing appalling in the article.

Anyone who says anything that isn't pure praise of GT is obviously a fanboy to you.
 
He clearly isn't too familiar with the GT series after his Tokyo comment but his little preview wasn't too bad, his was dissapointed it was a 1 car (1 playable car) and 1 track with only minor denting.

It's nice to see the Sony rep comment though.

Yeah it should make people think twice about using the back of my car to slow down.

Question is though, will mechanical damage apply to the cars that don't suffer visual damage?

I wonder if it is real mechanical damage, or merely a performance limitation. For instance if like on GTA4 you smack you right front the wheel will become locked up and affect the handling.

If indeed production cars don't have visual damage representation, I would think mechanical damage is well beyond visual damage in severity, as far as the manufacturers are concerned.

The wobbly bits in the first damage video certainly propose actual effects rather than performance scalability.

I don't see a connection between loose body work and performance.

Anyway, I hope the mechanical damage was toned way down for the demo because you should never hit a wall at ~200KM/H and still be able to drive.
 
I hope it includes engine and drivetrain damage due to abuse, for example all those in GT5Per that drop right down the gears way too quickly and over rev severely while entering most corners.

Well, I think none of us are impressed so far, so why should we blame CVG?


I am impressed but I don't blame CVG.

I'm actually referring to the bits in the video (time-wise) where the steering input is rapidly fluctuating after a crash.

edit: Actually not steering input (those would be the player's actions), but the steering itself in the game (how the entire car moves)

I'm not very impressed because the damage so far looks like a joke to me, and I'm still confused about the Premium cars, I don't know how many tracks there will be either. Damage to less than 20% of the cars sounds odd, although I understand why PD has done it that way.

But hey, that's just me. It was stupid to claim none of us are impressed, that I regret.

Not at all - CVG is known to be an Xbox favouring website - most of that article is very poorly researched... and clearly written by someone who has a predisposition to be against the game...

The only bits of useful information are where they have reported what Sony/PD have told them.

Could be caused by damage where the steering goes loose but seeing that it corrects itself shortly there after it is probably the players input causing it.

That can't be "known", unless they publicly and openly express (and I don't mean one game gets better scores than another) a favourism towards Xbox. Additionally, as the article is written by a single reporter, you can't equal the reporter to the entire website.
 
I'm more excited about the game than I ever have been.

You know why? Because its actually being shown off and for the first time I am seeing GT5 with my own eyes.

Alright it might not be have everything everyone wants but its still looking like a bonafide GT game and thats good enough for me. The problem is that we have been talking about what we want for so long the list is now absolutely huge!! It was never going to tick all the boxes.

We moan that PD keep us fans in the dark and don't give any info and when they do we absolutely kill them for it.

The visual damage in the demo wasn't very good, I mean it certainly looked like pre-rendered pre-programmed damage and it was basically just bumpers falling off. That's why most people (and me to some extent) aren't impressed (although I don't think its a joke, its PD's first time, and for a first try its actually a good one)

Little to none deformation, parts are just coming off. No sign of puncture, no sign of broken windshield/windows, no sign of broken head/rear lights. So far it's a joke IMO, but I think we haven't seen the full damage model yet. 👍
