I'm having a lot of fun in Daily Race C this week, but with no central air in my apartment and daily temperatures around 90°F, I have to find a way to move my rig into my bedroom where I have an AC unit. I currently have a cheap rig that I just pull up to the couch and it's in a pretty comfortable position. It can adjust however, so that the wheel is much closer to the floor, and is almost perfect for a floor-seated position if I sit on a thick cushion. I looked into cheap monitors, I found a 24" HP for $109. The monitor would be on an adjustable arm mount ($20) that I can clamp to the rig. It would be sitting directly behind the wheel itself, and I wasn't sure if the size or distance would be jarring perspective-wise compared to playing on 50" TV from significantly farther away. So I carefully put my current 22" computer monitor on a stack of books in the approximate position to test it out, and it feels great.

I was worried 24" might be too small, but it's perfectly fine since it's so close. The perspective honestly feels more immersive than sitting on the couch in front of the TV. On top of that, sitting on the floor (with a cushion and back support, obviously) feels great, and it's much closer to an actual racing seat position. I think I'm gonna take a break from racing until the monitor comes in, but I can't wait to get back to it without sweating.

If you don’t like getting stuck behind d players then qualify.
You can’t blame the game for not matchmaking you the way you want when you don’t qualify.
Plus I’m quite certain the fast guys would like to race you there.

What fast guys? Ehh I qualify I would be watching the gaps grow front and back all race. There simply isn't enough competition around that's not afraid to enter race B. I don't get stuck behind D players, I pass them cleanly. It's the non qualifiers behind me that don't have that kind of patience, thus dropping down the SR ladder. Which is fine, since in SR.C starts are much faster.

Qualifying is 95% boring races, not qualifying 100% fun races. Well if you don't care about ratings and simply enjoy clean passes and outwitting the car in front. Fact is, in SR.C I have had many side by side finishes, down to 0.05 sec difference. While qualifying that rarely happens. Sunday evening maybe. Perhaps I'll qualify on Sunday afternoon in hope fast guys show up to the ring for the evening races.

Decided to do some work on my race C quali time.

Using the Atenza, BB +3. Reckon I've gotten the most my skill level is capable of achieving out of this car.

Time down to a 1:37.785.. honestly mind boggling that the best time in EMEA is a whole 1.5s quicker haha.

I was afraid of that. I was going to try a day of AWD cars, but I started with the GT-R. It was a dog in the turns.

In other another race:

I was able to recover with a 5th place.

What I really want to know is how did this Gr. 4 car get tire stickers?

I posted about my Scirocco keeping the stickers well after an FIA race. Took Scapes with it and did a couple custom races. Even turned the game off and back on. Still had the stickers.
Like "trouble" means wife, as in "trouble and strife" :)

While the word trouble itself is "Barney", from Barney Rubble

Which means if you're in Barney with the trouble, you're in trouble with your wife.
I learned that one from Don Cheadle, in one of the Oceans movies.

Best time I can get is 1.44.xxx in an RCZ, your kind of times are another world to me :)

For around $300 via Amazon, this is also a great option... 28" 4K HDR @ 60hz and 1ms response: https://www.pcgamer.com/benq-el2870u-gaming-monitor-review/

I think the game is sometimes just adding those Michelin stickers. Groundfish did an FIA race the other day in the Nissan Skyline (N300). He just grabbed one with a stock livery and entered. His post-race photo showed those same Michelin stickers were on his tires. :odd:

I saw that picture. I was asking myself how it got tire stickers as well. I’ve just never understood why we can’t have them on the Gr. 4 cars. They’re a race car class. :irked:

I have enjoyed running Race C this week. Starting position and others mistakes play a big role in where you finish, it would seem.

I had been mostly starting in the middle of the pack with a QT of 1:38.8xx so I went back in this morning and set a 1:38.5xx and that set me to P3 for this race. Afternoon race saw this time back in P13. Both were A+ to B DR mixed lobbies.

I had a great 6 lap battle with an Atenza. This move in the Four Brothers on the penultimate lap cemented the lead. Some light contact, but I felt there was room and no hard feelings after.in the post race chat. I feel pride for it and got a CRB, but I’m open to criticism.

Just did 2 Race A. For my 1000th finish. @sturk0167 was in both. We haven't met on track in a while. How cool is that? :D

First race was much cleaner than the 2nd. Managed a top 5 in both but not proud of the 2nd one. Didn't give up the spot because I felt I had no choice. In hindsight, wish I didn't go for the pass and finished behind smoothly.

Who here races intrinsically, and not just to boost DR? I get the idea that I'm just chasing DR gains and it doesn't feel like a fun way to go about things. Besides, all DR is good for is getting more points in a championship - or at least as far as I know, anyway.

Also, as of this post, I'm 466th in my region for Race A, with a time of 58.765 - is that still good?

I was in 2 of those races with you today. Seems like you did well. As for Q time, that looks pretty good. That probably puts you in the top 10%.
Also, keep in mind that of the people with top 10 times, maybe 2 or 3 will actually show up at the race. The rest just qualify for fun, or some other reasons. Therefore, of the people who are actually gonna participate in the race, I'd say you're more like top 250. 👍

I use DR to gauge improvement in speed as I move to faster cars and longer races. It's not the score I really care about. It's the level of competition I want to matched with.

I just wish I could turn it down a notch and win more.

DR is usually a good gauge of consistency, and I would probably say for most of us that race regularly it is also an average that shows off how well you race in general. I like to have my DR increase and get higher, but I did pull off getting to DR A once (twice now) and found that as long as you are racing to the best of your abilities and keeping it clean you will usually end up with good racing around people if you keep your SR steady. I find DR to be a bit overrated unless you are one of the very top players as I have mentioned before how mine can be drastically combo dependant.

It is nice to get in better lobbies for things like trying to score FIA points, but otherwise I have now figured it will sort itself out as long as I can keep my SR out of the dumper.

All that said, I do like how it looks when I have a higher DR, but I'm no longer going to bust my head over it like I first did. I'd rather spend my time figuring out how to drive the cars well and just have good clean races.

It took me forever but I finally got my 100th win. I wish it wasn't race A but I'll take it lol..I was stuck at 99 for like six months.
Congrats.

Nice 3 star win.

Sorry. You know what, though? If you start at the front, and you're in a 90+ SR room, you can assume (most of the time) that when you screw up, the person behind you will hit their brakes. Usually, that results in having even more breathing room (the rich get richer). 👍
Solid advice.

Actually it's been a big difference for me starting 5-10 ish rather than 10-20 ish before. So I absolutely believe it.

I remember that one time, way back when....there was this fast, clean racer who wasn't qualifying at the 'Ring. He'd pass almost everyone, or maybe he wouldn't. But man, he was fast. And he'd always complain after the races. Call out us after races for being slow or unaware. It sucked. He even called me the 'Roman Grosjean of GT Sport'.... I was crushed.:guilty: I made a livery to commemorate the whole thing.

Point being: qualy or don't complain.

*this was in 2018

That's pretty nice but I try to stay cheap with sim racing, otherwise I'm gonna fall down the hole and end up with a purpose-built PC...

Yeah, I keep switching back and forth between computer/simracing sites and bring a trailer... BaT is the goal as long as I can maintain some discipline, but a new system running a 3080ti with triples is tempting. Just need to remember to keep the eyes on the prize...
