Yeah, to be fair even 180 is a tad optimistic haha.

Maybe 170 - 180.

Insurance wasn't too bad for my age, cost me £1700 fully comp.

I was going to say that seems high, but then I suppose living in a city bumps it up quite a lot. :indiff:

Oh forgot about this thread. ;)

So these came..

I took my old door cards off which look like they had been subject to a bodge repair in the past, one door was covered in a plastic seal inside, (Not sure if OEM) and both crash pads were stapled on lol.

I lined up my old door cards with the new ones and drilled through so I could screw my existing crash pads onto my new sexy cards...

A little bit of drilling to bolt my new door pulls through...

And voila!!! New door cards fitted...

Very sexy. Also, note new custom made gear knob made by my dad at work which was apparently made from £50 worth of "Silver Steel". All I know is it's bloody heavy and I absolutely love it. Thread is a bit too shallow though so it sits a bit too high, but that will be sorted soon.

Also had a go at fitting the new wheels today but my existing nuts are too bulky and won't fit in the sexy tight rota holes.

Couldn't help lining them up next to the wheels and having a sneaky peek at what it may look like though...

But my busy day didn't stop there..

The other day I was talking about sueding my center console.

So, the other night i did the arm rest...

1601028_722599747758516_950309527_n.jpg

Then last night at 9PM I thought screw it, lets do this!!

First to dismantle it and degrease with fairy liquid..

1795922_723074054377752_2083347160_o.jpg

Next step was to sand it down using wet and dry paper. No turning back now.

1064117_723074064377751_178484807_o.jpg

Roughly cut out the shape...

This is my weapon of choice. Spray on both the suede and the center console, wait for it to go tacky and throw it on!!

Rough shape done....

1559447_723074281044396_445685938_o.jpg

Trimming around the edges...

1655233_723074241044400_1740003054_o.jpg

Almost there!!

1026128_723074327711058_1036029898_o.jpg

Finished!! At 3am...

1799186_723077251044099_1367620220_o.jpg

But I wasn't about to stop there. Another coffee please...

Got the suede center console/tombstone in the car. Still a little bit of adjusting to do and trimming around the edges like the hazard switch.

Also, a pic of the wheels in the light. INB4 the "NEED MOAR LOWS" comments.

I knows I need moar lows.

Some nice stuff here 👍 Doorcards look excellent. Not as keen on the suede centre console, but hey, it's your car! And you've done a good job on it too.

Personally I'd have covered the soft pad running along the dashboard and the instrument binnacle surround in suede instead - the latter particularly because it's quite shiny plastic and normally reflects on the windscreen.

Also, damn you. Every time I venture into an MX-5 thread it makes me want another...

I am going to do the instrument surround in suede too, as well as buying a suede 330mm steering wheel.

The console looks better in person to be fair. :) I think I like it, not entirely sure really! Seemed better in my head. The reason I didn't want to do the crash pads is because it goes round to the door cards too and the door cards are already suede, so I thought it might clash a bit.

Do it. Get another one!

If you were able to get the crash pads in the same quilted material that'd look pretty good, I reckon. Though it may now clash with the suede dash.

If you're replacing the wheel you'll probably be able to get reasonable money for that Nardi, by the way. Was yours a special edition? They only fitted that one to a handful of cars, if I recall correctly.

As for getting another, it is quite tempting. Specialist near me I talked to while doing the book has a nice silver '90 Eunos in at the moment. Needs its grim white dials swapping back to original ones and a few other tweaks too, but the price is good and this bloke doesn't sell rusty ones either.

I think what I will do is rip the suede off of the center console/tombstone, and maybe either spray it gloss black or leather it. And yeah, mine is the S Special, the Nardi will sell for about £60 at least hopefully.

Just do it. You know you want to. Fantastic little cars. ;)

Instead of lowering it I just think it could do with a front valance.

Personally, I think that's sitting pretty much perfectly as it is. Wheels look awesome too!

Agreed.

And if you do go with a drop, don't go too far. 👍

EDIT: Although it might like good with a small drop, say <30mm. Though I wouldn't if you're going lowered springs over OEM dampers just for the sake of the ride.

I agree with this. Normally I'm the one to say "SLAM IT TO TEH FLAW" but I actually think it looks quite nice at the current height. Just a front valance would complete it, I think. 👍

I only want to lower it a bit on MeisterR coilovers or Gaz Gold Pro Coilovers, and it wont be more than 30mm anyway. I want this more track orientated than for teh epix flush.

The door cards are from http://www.carbonmiata.com/

And I've looked in to those garage vary front lips, but to me they don't go with my retro look.

I did want one, and I may still end up with one but it's not on the top of my list.

Looked up carbon Miata. Great stuff! Hope you don't mind if I buy the same door cards for my Miata when I get it. :D

My plan for the interior will be red stitching, on the wheel, shift boot, seats, and door cars. It will be awesome. Looking forward to see the rest of this build.

My mate is good friends with the guy who runs CarbonMiata, the Mazda Speed sideskirts belonged to my mate - he sent them in make the mold and got a carbonfibre set in return  it's a great website - unfortunately not as relevant for me since I don't have an MX5 but I definitely recommend them.

Oh, and this happened.

What... is it..?

Of course I don't mind. That's also my direction for the interior and mine is influenced by others cars. :)

Yep, Marc is a great guy. Very helpful.

Shorty console!!

That's a standard one. After come cutting and carbon fiber-ing, I ended up with that thing above. It's now all finished and fillered, just needs leathering. Will post pics when I get home.

I really should update this more often...

Center console is all fitted now...

(I still need to fiddle around with it a bit and recarpet the transmission tunnel)

So, me and my dad have installed also installed a megasquirt. My dad developed a lot of the Megasquirt software (I think most of MS1) and is a well known character in the MS community.

He has developed a Plug and Play system for the MK1 MX5 and mine is a bit of a test hamster.

Car is all tuned now. Due to not needing the mass air flow meter, we have de restricted the air intake so much, and that is where most of the gains of running a Megasquirt on a Normally Aspirated engine are. (Obviously I am not planning on being NA for long)

Holy 🤬 it pulls now though. The gains are incredible. It pulls over the whole rev range. And the noise that the induction makes is just... wow.

So this happened as well....

MX5Parts twin backbox. Sounds like God having an orgasm. Love it.

I have booked it in for it's sills to be cut out and treated as the driver side is rusty and bubbling and the passenger side is starting to show bubbles underneath, so I want to catch it before it goes too far. It's going to sting me £340, but totally worth it.

So thats where I am so far!

Nice. Looking really good so far.

Interesting to know what sort of power figures you think you're making with the Megasquirt stuff right now? I've always fancied a hopped-up MX-5 but I'm not overly keen on the forced induction thing*, so it's nice to know how much they can make naturally-aspirated.

The other thing is, I do quite like the shorty console but aesthetically having the fuel and boot releases sticking out like that would drive me mental...

* I say this, but there's a chap with a V-Spec on the Retro Rides forum who has had it supercharged. Sounds great and really seems to shift...

Thanks mate, I try my best. :)

I reckon I have got about 10% on whatever it was producing before. It has probably lost a fair bit since new so I am probably back to where it was, at around 115BHP. (for now)

Thing is though, as it is completely de restricted, it just pulls all along the rev range which is a lovely feeling. When it is supercharged I will not rest until I have at least 200BHP. :)

Yeah, it's bugging me. I am going to make an enclosure with a door on it and carpet over it, so I can access it when needed. Should look reasonably discrete.
