My friends have been playing this for weeks. Zombies can teleport through doors watch out.

^It's still in alpha...

I need to wait too, need to get arrow head too to play it :(.

Wish I could get this but my PC isn't good enough. Downloaded the free ARMA II demo off Steam and it was too slow on minimal settings.

Shame, such a good idea and looks like such a good game. They should release it as a game itself not a mod.

Got this now for 24€

Had only the Arma2 via a german Dl portal (legit), and buying the add on could have resulted in slight problems. And this was cheaper than buying an add on alone.

Ok played a fair bit yesterday, and wow what a game.

I felt like, Glenn from walking dead all along.

You start up with some basic equippement (a pistol, few rounds, badages, water and food) but there are way too many zombies to go all berseker on them.

Ammunition is not rare, but the right ammunition for your weapons is.

First game play, I come behind an other survivor, he was scavanging a downed survivor. I could have shot him in the back but did not. Got in front of him, took him a minute, then he shot me out of nowhere. ROfl.

Next play, I managed to get an Ak, but didn't have ammo, scavanged a airport, did go futher inland, saw a barn. I wanted to check it out for loot, but some zombies saw me, so i ran in the barn and closed the door, got up to first level as zombies all over were swarming in.
i had a good defensive position, until I eventually ran out of ammo and couldn't flee anymore.

All in all the game (mod) is more than awesome. It's scary because you are so underpowered you don't want a confrontation.

Playing this in a group must be freaking aweome. You need to survive out there, get water, hunt for food, set up a good camp for nights (which are horrible as seen in youtube vids). But firstly you need to find the gear to survive (axe for firewood, knife to gut animals for food,....)

10/10 on this game (considering it is still alpha so glitches are not accounted)

So anyone playing this, I need a group.

Little vid to give some image to back it up how awesome:

On the german amazon.
french amzon has it also in stock for 36€
Uk didn't have it in stock

I don't know about languages options ingame, will look though if you can change it

I'm surprised the fact he was looting someone's corpse didn't set off any alarm bells, I would've been wondering how the downed survivor came to be downed...! If it had been zombies they'd still be in the area, bandits would've killed the looter as well as the lootee (unless he was watching from afar and moved in after they'd left), so I would've made the assumption that he did it himself.

That guy had some cojones, I haven't played Day Z yet but from what I've heard and seen, being in the open at all ever is an invitation to anyone who might be watching you through a rifle scope. Particularly at a military base, you would've thought that would be a popular place for looters.

These features are great for demonstrating why this is so good:

You might also find a crew to run with here:

Personally I've got other stuff to play at the moment so I haven't made the effort to install Day Z yet, I'm still (somehow) enjoying the Armoury mode solo. I've just gotten a triple monitor setup and there's nothing quite like flying a jet or chopper around with 120 degrees of vision, and I'm also quite enjoying taking a sniper rifle and doing assassination challenges (they get quite tough when the target is in a tank, mind you).

I did see some zombies before from afar, so I though he got downed by Zombies.
Lesson learned : Kill or be killed

Depends with 50 persons on a huge map, you gotta take your chances.
I was yesterday at a little base, snatched binocculars and ammo.
My caracter is sitting in a barn for the moment waiting for me to return. heading out for the castle roc as it seems to be a good place.

The big airfield will be hard though.

Yeah armory is one excellent feature of this game. love playing a little session on there too. Perfect for that

I have this game now, You can add me on Steam same name as here. Still learning how to play though

^Will add you though my game is retail so i don't go through steam on this game.

If you want to play together, just notify here, then we look for a server than is not full and try to rejoin at some city.

Hope they add a feature that enables more easily to join friends.

If you need help with something, need something explained, just asked,...

Here I give you the map:

Cause finding a map ingame is rare

Now on my second day of lonely survival:
Had a good run, played one caracter for around 4 hours. When started found an alice backpack (rare, 20 slots), did go north alone and looted alot.
Had an AK, lots of ammo, 2 pistols, enough to eat and drink.

Then I helped some guy out who was swarmed, travelled a bit with him (disconnected, need to eat IRL).
Came back, suddenly an other guy behind me.
We had a stand off for 2 min until we decided to team up.
5 min later we were swarmed with 50 zeds.
My companion died pretty quick, i managed to run uphill, a horde of zombies behind me, no ammunition in the chamber, all in the backpack. Tryed to run ahead to take them out.

Eventually managed to kill them all of, Zed counter on 80 with 62 headsots :D

But I was severly wounded. Lost 1/3 of my blood. Vision was very shakey.

Logged of. Rejoined, Looking for a goat or cow to get blood back. As I logged on, and I was roaming in the middle of nowhere for 10 min, I got shot in the back.
Dead.

This game is soooo good.

I played it for the first time tonight. I joined an EU server so it was night time, like absolutely pitch black and all I could see was a farmhouse lit up by a flare so I decided to head over but it was pretty far away. I didn't want to sprint or even walk so I was crawling and crouching most of the way there. When I got nearby the sky suddenly got a lot lighter and I thought it might be someone lighting me up with a flare or torch or something, but it went dark again so I carried on.

I got to the farmhouse and my brother (who was watching) spotted a zombie in one of my surround monitors that I just didn't see, so I went prone and started slow crawling behind it, hoping it wouldn't see me so I could get indoors. Suddenly out of nowhere a fellow survivor stood up maybe 20 metres away from me and started shooting the zombie, killed it and went prone again. I hadn't moved or done anything while this was going on, I was just watching with free look, so I was quite surprised that the survivor spotted me and opened fire. I said 'friendly!' in the global chat but he didn't stop, so I fired back. Unfortunately he'd hit me pretty good so I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, but I think I got a couple of hits on him before I died.

I'll try again in the morning. Great fun though, feel free to add me on Steam (general invitation), my username is [BRD] neema_t or something like that.

What are the specs for this? Does the specs need to be high?

There's a demo on Steam, and a free version of Arma II anyway, so you can try it out and see if your PC can run it. You'll be at a slight disadvantage if your draw distance has to be scaled right the way down, I have mine at 5km (10km being the maximum) and its fine, but I've got a GTX 680... That's the other thing, even high end machines can't max it out but then I don't think you really need to. Draw distance is the most important thing in terms of the settings, and if you're scraping the bottom of the minimum requirements you'll probably struggle to fly jets and stuff because you won't be able to see far enough ahead. Also as it's not uncommon to snipe at 600-1000 metres if you can only have 500m of view distance you'll suffer, and being unable to scope a place out will get you killed, I'd imagine. Then again maybe the minimum 500m of draw is for sub-minimum reqs PCs, I don't know.

Ok I've played a lot more today, my best moment was seeing some idiot draw a swarm of zombies to him (I was even in the same barn as him but he didn't see me, or was too busy to do anything but run) who promptly mugged and killed him, which was useful because I'd spawned on an island and lost everything except for my gun, ammo and bandages, so I got a pack and everything I should've spawned with plus two magazines for my Makarov. I then walked a little further, found a barn, found my first Winchester... Then by chance another survivor came in, didn't see me and just sat there, and for some bizarre, absolutely witless reason I shot him in the back with the Winchester, and I have no idea why, I was just looking at him and I wanted to try it out. Shockingly, this attracted a lot of undead attention, so I ran and tried to sort of jump (fall) off the lowest level of the barn which must've been about 6 feet. This knocked me out, right at the feet of a swarm of zombies. I deserved it for murder and for being completely bloody stupid. Then I respawned, got spotted by a zombie through a wall, managed to run a long way and take out the 16 zombies that followed me and killed them all with headshots (plus a lot of body hits which left me with one, just one bullet). I found a survivor shortly after who claimed to be friendly who then shot me in the back, which wasn't really a surprise.

I've left myself just Northwest of Komarovo for the night, up on the hill, just inside the treeline. If anyone wants to join up with me tomorrow then let me know, I have some stuff I found on a dead presumably freshly spawned survivor so I can spare a couple of Makarov magazines and a tin of food. I want to visit the buildings on the shore then move up to Balota airfield, but I haven't worked out a plan beyond that.

Also don't go to Tulga, it's boring and there's nothing there.

^Lol, these stories are so cool, everybody has a cool story to tell in DayZ. It's hillarious.

I am on the shore of Komarovo in the building.
We are pretty much in the same timezone so playing togehter should work.

Pavlovo has a supermarket where with a bit of chance is more to gather, plus on the way there are lots of deer stands.

Also the time ingame is tied to the real world server location. So at night irl, play on US servers, you see people swaping between those servers on the numbers.

Yeah, last night I was on an Ohio server to get some daylight, surprising how lag-free they are really.

I was planning to head east from where I am, I was thinking Komarovo > Balota airstrip > Cherno fire station and hospital > Nadezhdino or Kozlovka, but maybe we could do Komarovo > Kamenka > Pavlovo and then go either north to Zeleno, northeast to Drozhino or east to Bor. I think I'll hop on the Armoury mode and check these routes out, I hate sneaking through huge groups of zombies only to find the house I was hoping to loot doesn't have a functioning door. I've never seen a supermarket nor a deer stand, but I can imagine the former is a useful place to check out.

Small aside: Have you seen how good Arma III is looking? I really can't wait, E3 should be interesting.

Edit: I checked out a couple of routes, one heading northwest and the other heading east. Kamenka is pretty much pointless, there's nothing good there, but there's a road that leads out of Komarovo to the northwest which goes straight to Pavlovo so that would be a good wayfinder. Leaving Pavlovo to the north there's another road that leads to Zelenogorsk, but if you cut through the forest (which is probably safer anyway) and head directly north, there's two large barns on the outskirts of Zeleno which could hold something interesting or vital.

The other route is east from Komarovo to Balota airstrip, then rejoin the road that heads east that's to the north of the airstrip. There's a few buildings on the north side of that road to check out, then you can rejoin the road until you reach a power substation, turn right here and head down a dirt track until you reach a barn, loot that, rejoin the dirt track and it ends on the main road to Cherno, right near a factory (which has one small shed you can enter), a supermarket (I think that's what it was) and the fire station, all quite close together.

Where to go after either of those places I really don't know, either route from Komarovo would take probably about the same time (if you forget about zombies and time spent looting), but I'd rather head north than back to the shore again personally. As much as I'd like to investigate a military base on the off-chance that I find a DMR or M24 or something, the risk is huge. Then again you'd hope the reward would also be huge, so who knows?

I work today, ain't my queens jubilee ;)

So I can come online at 1630 GMT, then we can roam together.

It sounds like you have a plan already laid out. I'm in!

Cherno and Electro are very dangerous as they are really big but cool. Bandits nest.
The ultimate place to go is obviously the big airstrip in the center of the map, but it's a good hike till there.

I follow 2 rules in Zedland :
If you ask yourself if it's worth the risk, it never ain't

Zeds are no problems, Bandits (or any unknown players) are

And yes, Arma III looks really good, and now on E3 we get an extensive look at those demo scenerios they have been teasing us with the last 2 weeks.

The more I read about this game, the more I want to play it :P

Weird that the Anniversay Edtion is so cheap on Amazon.de compared to the rest.
I want an English version though, so probably going to order it from play.com for €36.

Unless I come to my senses and realise I don't really have the time :D

Maybe I've been lucky, but I've only encountered maybe two bandits, and one didn't shoot me and let me tag along with him for a while. Then again I haven't been to Cherno yet. I think I'll see if I can go east and come back to Komarovo to meet up by 1630, I told myself I wouldn't spend the day playing (again) but this is important, damn it! Knowing my luck I'll just find magazines for weapons I don't have, a hatchet and then I'll die. I've only just respawned anyway so it's no great loss.

Tell me about it! I want to play it but I can't, because of my PC. Will be following any updates on DayZ though, one day I might be able to get it...

I was not wrong...

I trekked over to Balota, went up the air traffic control tower, found a flashlight, heat pack, STANAG magazine, frag grenade, chem lights, a hunting knife and a G17 magazine, tried to climb back down the ladder and the game went crazy for a sec, I fell and was knocked out. Zombies came, swarmed me, and I died. Back to the drawing board... Again.

Do a lot of people take the time to repair a vehicle?
I bet it's fun driving over zombies.

I learned that you can place barbed wire. Does this stay in place on that server, or does it despawn when you leave/log off?

Day Z looks great, I only wish I had a machine to run it! I've been tracking PC gaming for few weeks now as I consider whether or not to get a good system this year or keep with the PS3, Day Z is a strong driver to get a nice desktop sorted out.

I've never seen a vehicle that can be repaired nor anyone driving one that has been repaired, but I would imagine that if you were to find one you'd pretty much have to repair it. Engine parts can be rare but you see wheels in a lot of warehouse, so I don't know.

I imagine barbed wire is a server-specific persistency, like vehicles and tents, so if you log into a different server your position and inventory would be saved but the barbed wire wouldn't. Log in on the same and it should be there, I think.

I had better luck with my next spawn, in fact I'm miraculously still alive. I spawned near Cherno and I've been exploring ever since, I've found enough food and drink to last me for a while, a hatchet, hunting knife, winchester and M1911 (but with only one magazine). I had a shootout (well, I shot them, they stood there) with about ten zombies because, once again, I was detected and attacked through a wall which resulted in a chase. I ran up a crane, bandaged myself and expected the zombies to climb the ladder as they have done before. They didn't so I had to basically snipe them, which with a Makarov isn't easy. I also found a building full of Lee Enfields, three of them to be precise, and a flashlight which I've kept in my pack. I tried to grab another hunting knife to bring to Komarovo later on but you can only carry one, unfortunately.

Yeah for vehicules, you need a engineer tool set, and find all the parts (i saw gas tank, engine parts, windshield and wheel)
Same applies for helicopters, but till now only stumbled across a rotor.

LOL neema, sounds like you having fun :)

the enfields are great but very noisy, made a whole village swarm me after i shot a Zed 300 meters away, but you find enough ammo for it (winchester the same, lots* of ammo for it)

*according to the game
