First off, this is not a spot race.

This is the Contest to create a spot race.

Only one theme... "End of a Gen."

Changes in the generations of cars are similar to the changes in generations of game consoles.

The GTR R34 is now the R35, the Z06 C5 is now the C6, the 911 996 is now the 997, the M3 E46 is now the E92, the Evo is now on X and the Impreza is only a station wagon! Likewise, the PS3 is out and GT5 is on the way. :sly:

The change is undeniable and usually for the better (don't forget the NSX-R is dead and the RX7 was replaced by the RX8). However, as superior as the next generation always is, I want to make the current generation last.

My challenge to you is this...
Create a spot race in GT4 that will use the PS2-generation theme and capture the best of what has been left behind.

We can have an open dicussion and eventually vote on the subject. When we decide which race best represents the theme a winner will be crowned and off to the spot race section we shall go!

Remember, only one rule- my theme above. Other than that, the rules are up to you since you will be the one creating a spot race to represent that theme. :mischievous:

I'm in no rush, this is an open discussion of the theme and any spot races that are submitted will be discussed indefinately. Once we have a group of races submitted I will post a poll and we can have a final vote (maybe it will be in november of '08, who knows!).

Are you up to the challenge?

So an example would be:

1) Mazda RX-7 FD
2) Nissan Skyline M-Spec R34
3) Subaru Impreza STi
4) Toyota Supra RZ
5) Acura NSX
6) Mitsubishi Lancer VII

Theme: Japanese Sport cars of the 90's.

I'm sure you are all aware of the cars that were "left behind" so to speak. The ones that really don't have a place in the game, such as the 320i Touring Car or the R31 Skyline GTS-R.

These are both excellent cars that really have no application in the game. Sure, the GTS-R is slight overkill in the Japanese 80's cup, but doesn't really go anywhere else... I'm sure there are enough of these sorts of cars that they could be organized into a nice spot race.

Well, actually...
There's no limit to what you can put together for the spot race (except the theme).

The key is to select cars that represent the GT4/ PS2 generation.
Re-read the first post and it should become clear. However, assuming nothing makes sense.
I was inspired by BM's R35 v. 997 turbo shootout.

Now I'm looking at the M3 and the R34, the CSL and the R-tune, the Vette, NSX-R, and the RX7. The RGT and the Esprit, the Impreza and the Evo. All of those were current models at the time of the PS2/GT4 but now we are moving on and so I was looking for a race that highlighted the changes in the automotive world that accompanied the changes in the gaming world.

Make of this what you will, check the first post again.
Let me know if there is anything else I can attempt to clear up.

I take it that in a spot race the cars must also be evenly matched, because I have an idea that would really work well, but it will be harder to make the cars evenly matched.

One final chance for Victory, because there is no tomorrow!

As long as the Mitsubishi Colt CZ-3 Tarmac is in there somewhere, i dont mind what happens.

Im still flogging this dead horse.

Track: Fuji Speedway 90's
Theme: Make way for the new guy

Explain- Each one of the cars in this race has made way in their respective manufacturer's line up for a car that is more practical and can do more things. Each one is also a dedicated sports machine. This is the same with PS2, only instead of being a dedicated sports machine it is a dedicated games machine, and it's being pushed aside for the PS3 which can do more things (Blu-ray, photos, music etc.). The track was also the end of a generation of that track, which was later completely redesigned for something that could do more things (different corners etc.)

Amemiya Asparadrink RX7 (JGTC) '04 won last spotrace.

Next spotrace theme: Prototypes at Mónaco

1) Bentley Speed 8
2) Mazda 787B
3) Toyota GT-One
4) Panoz Esperante GTR-1
5) Nissan R92CP
6) Toyota Minolta 88C-V

Track: Côte d' Azur

. . . I hate to say this, but it seems that some of these spot races have nothing to do with the topic at hand. There is no indication of manufacturer evolution in some of them. Just a grouping of similar cars and a track to race them on.

How about this one . . . Evo's -vs- WRX's

I - vs- I
II - vs- II
III -vs- III
IV -vs- IV
V -vs- V

Race: 1 off road course, 1 Road course per match up.
Tracks: - Grand Canyon and Hong Kong.

2 laps at each track and the best times are added together for an overall competition time.

Will they finish in sequincial order? Will the V's come out on top?
T.M.E and Prodrive edition cars not allowed.

Tuning and Special Car Match Ups:
1. Opera Performance 350Z Vs. Mugen S2000
2. Opera Performance S2000 Vs. Sprinter Trueno GT-Apex (AE86) S.Shigeno Ver.
3. Mitsubishi Lance EVO VI GSR T.M.E. Vs. DMC DeLorean S2
4. Subaru Impreza WRX STi Prodrive Style Vs. Mitsubishi Lancer EVO VI RS TME

Tracks: Swiss Alps, Thaiti Maze, Tsukuba Circuit, Special Stage Route 5 Reverse

And this just proves my point as stated above.

Don't count formula_seeker's races. He's had some pretty idiotic posts in the past. These ones probably are no different.

. . . I hate to say this, but it seems that some of these spot races have nothing to do with the topic at hand.

The suby vs. Evo looks neat, but tell me, what does that have to do with the end of the line kinda stuff? That seemed quite ironic to me, telling others to be more on topic with their ideas, while not explaining why your idea is on topic...

True, I should have explained it further. I was wrapping up lunch here at work and logged the post with out fully reading it.

Its more of an end of the first generation, continuing on the second.
End of the second generation, continuing on with the third.

And so on to see how each generation of car would compete against its rival, and its previous version.

I liked my Extinction Cup idea better. That was definately an " Death of a Generation" race

*Edit . . . I just read your message in the title box . . . I own a '67 Mustang. :)

El Capitan immediately comes to my mind as the emblematic track of GT4. The Nürburgring comes only second since it also appears in other games (Enthusia, Forza...).
And as far as the end of generation is concerned, the cars I will miss most are the Skyline R34 and the NSX.
I find that the R34 really had a terrific look as well as a wonderful engine. I still am disappointed by the R35 : too smooth, not enough personality.
And the NSX was a great sports car (MR V6 engine) that still hasn't been replaced.

So, I would fancy a duel in the sun :
Track: El Capitan, both forward and reverse.
Car: a Skyline R34 and a Honda NSX (road cars)
Each driver has to submit 2 lap times, so as to use both cars and both tracks, but he/she decides what car he/she drives on which track.
Power limitation: rather close to stock, like 300 or 350 hp
Tyres: Normal sports (N3)

Drivers would be ranked based on the aggregate time, and would have to mention the combo used in the submission post (exact car name + track version) but could keep it secret in the thread.

I like the sound of that one.

I'm a fan of the R34's and the NSX's.

Because of the drive train advantage I would almost bet that a stock -vs- stock race would be really close.

1) Mercury Cougar '67
2) Holden Monaro CV8 '04
3) Honda NSX Type R '02
4) Toyota Supra RZ '97
5) Mitsubishi 3000GT MR '98
6) Mazda RX-7 Spirit Type R (FD) '02

What about mine PARAGON GT? I thought mine was right on topic, and I even gave an explaination as to why.
