So, I would fancy a duel in the sun :
Track: El Capitan, both forward and reverse.
Car: a Skyline R34 and a Honda NSX (road cars)
Each driver has to submit 2 lap times, so as to use both cars and both tracks, but he/she decides what car he/she drives on which track.
Power limitation: rather close to stock, like 300 or 350 hp
Tyres: Normal sports (N3)

That sounds great to me but I'd like to see it expanded.
I'm going to use the cars from the original post in a more specific fashion and come up with a race. I will surely use more than six cars. Probably arcade mode, N2 or N3...
Back with an edit shortly. :D
Watching Fantastic Four for the first time on cable and wouldn't mind finishing the battle at hand, then I'm off to the game. Until then...

To keep with the theme, end of gen, are there any tracks that will be omitted in gt5. If so that may be an obvious track for such an event. If not , maybe an event at one of the Fuji tracks as layouts seem to change over the years (generations). As for cars, I am not knowledgeable enough to comment, but I like the idea of road/sports cars. Not the vettes as they are an American tradition. Unlike the Viper. I also like the idea of using cars that are current, not omitted. I believe the NSX is not current. The 2007 concept NSX provides "a glimpse at the next generation Acura exotic sports car". The 2003 HSC concept has also been omitted. If this style of car was used these may be a good choice. The theme to me seems to be like this. PS2-PS3.....older skyline-newer skyline....older Fuji-newer Fuji. Just thoughts.

I agree with your track selection, as I used Fuji '90s myself in my spot race as it was the last layout before it changed for the new one. The them is End of a Generation though, not beginning of a new one, so I would stick with the style of cars I used personally, just read my spot race- a few posts up I quoted it.

I've got a couple of spot races. :D

First Spot Race

1. Lexus IS300 Sport Cross '01
2. Mitsubishi Airtrek Turbo-R '02
3. Toyota Caldina GT-Four '02
4. Subaru Legacy 2.0GT Touring Wagon '03
5. Nissan Stagea RS Four S '98
6. Audi RS4 '01

Track: Opera Paris
Theme: Soccer Mum Shootout!!

It's pedal to the metal as six manufacturers take their everyday people movers and turn them into wonder wagons to prove who is the fastest of them all.
Complete with psychotic soccer mums, the cars will dart through the back streets of Paris in a mad 5 lap race to the schoolyard to be the first to pick up their kids from school on time. Who will be queen in the school carpark??

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
This particular spot race I think the other Aussies on here will appreciate. ;)

Second Spot Race

1. Nissan Skyline GTS-t Type M '89 (no spoiler!!)
2. Nissan 200SX (S14) '97 (no spoiler!!)
3. Nissan Silvia Spec R Aero (S15) '99 (no spoiler!!)
4. Holden Commodore SS VY Series 2 '04 (no spoiler!!)
5. Subaru Impreza WRX STi Ver.IV '97 (no spoiler!!)
6. Mazda RX7 Bathurst R '01 (no spoiler)

All cars must run OZ 023 or Bridgestone 006 wheels on cars.

Track: Hong Kong
Theme: Fat Pizza!!

It's Friday night at the Fat Pizza shop here in 'Hashfield', Australia and Habib, Rocky, Paulie and all the cousins in the dozens are standing around their cars looking 'fully sik yulleh'. There's no cars moving here, just heaps of people being posers saying they'll race but the cars go nowhere and just stay on the starting line all night, meanwhile Rocky and Paulie are trying to pick up chicks and Habib is stuck with Toula.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'll think of more proper ones like the 1st spot race later on. :)

Mafs!!

Hey Mafs, shouldn't that second spot race be at Fat Pizza? :sly: All the cousins in the dozens- that's funny. Do you know why "wogs" (sorry if that's racist, I don't mean it that way, but it's one word to identify them) get such nice cars? Because if they don't earn over $50k a year they can't live here. That's a lot of money each week to spend.

1) Jensen Interceptor Mk.III '74
2) Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 (C4) '96
3) Mazda RX-7 Infini III (FC,J) '90
4) Lotus Carlton '90
5) Toyota Celica GT-Four Rally Car (ST205) '95
6) Bentley Speed 8 Race Car '03 (130 Sec. Handicap)

Track: Nurburgring Nordschleife
Theme: Ultimate Prototype

Let's see if the Bentley Speed 8 LMP can beat the historic Jensen Interceptor.
In a historic track. With the Jensen 130 seconds ahead and only one lap remaining, can the Bentley Prototype prove it is the ultimate car? We'll see.

The Bentley isn't a prototype.

That spot race is as confused as I've ever seen. Here's a different theme for that type of race and why.

Spot Race Three

1. Opel Calibra Touring Car '94
2. BMW M3 GTR Race Car '01
3. Mercedes CLK Touring Car '00
4. Nissan MOTUL PITWORK Z (JGTC) '04
5. Mazda RX7 LM Race Car '01
6. Jaguar XJR-9 Race Car '88 (120 sec Handicap)

Track: Nurburgring
Theme: Round Up @ The Ring

It's the ultimate test for the XJR-9. To face 5 Touring Cars from 5 manufacturers that have had the benefits of 6 to 16 years of race tuning technology applied to them since the birth of the XJR-9 and then have the old girl show the whipper snappers what's up in a spot race around the ring. 2 laps to catch the others that leave the line a whole TWO MINUTES infront of the XJR-9, just to add that spice of difficulty to the race, otherwise heads up it will be a cakewalk to the XJR-9 and 1pt. to you......boo.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Spot Race Four

1. Mazda RX7 LM Race Car '01
2. Jaguar XJ220 LM Race Car '01
3. BMW McLaren F1 GTR Race Car '97
4. Ford GT LM Race Car Spec II '04
5. Pagani Zonda LM Race Car '01
6. Chevrolet Corvette C5R Race Car '00

Tracks: Le Sarthe I (2 laps), Infineon Sports Car (5 laps), Laguna Seca (5 laps), Fuji '90s (4 laps), Cote'd'Azur (6 laps)
Theme: ALMS Championship

This one is more of a spot championship, not just one race. Six Le Mans Spec Race Cars from the past few years get to battle it out on some of their old stomping grounds in the ALMS (American Le Mans Series). All cars have a range from 500+ to 650+hp and requirements were that it had to be either an LM Spec Car or actually raced in the ALMS series.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

More to come later on.
Mafs!!

1) Ford Focus Rally Car
2) Peugeot 206 Rally Car
3) Toyota Celica GT-FOUR Rally Car (ST205)
4) Lancia Stratos Rally Car
5) Ford RS200 Rally Car
6) Suzuki Escudo Dirt Trial Car (160 sec Handicap)

Track: Nurburgring Nordschleife
Theme: Round Up @ The Ring (Rally Version)

Now for the Suzuki Escudo, a very powerful rally car that can be very skill ful at The Ring. Thisis the ultimate test for it. Facing 5 rally cars from 4 manufacturers, and 3 laps to close a 160 seconds gap and finish first to take the chequered flag. Can you make a miracle happen?

1) Honda Odyssey
2) Toyota Caldina GT-Four
3) Nissan Skyline Hard Top 2000 Turbo RS (R30)
4) Audi A2 1.4
5) BMW 120i
6) Amuse S2000 GT1

Track: Infieon Raceway: Stock Car Course
Theme: Showdown Infineon

Guys please, read the gosh darnded first post- the theme has to have something to do with "end of a generation". If your race has nothing to do with that then stop posting.

I see someone else noticed. :sly:

IN case you don't want to look back at the first page, here is the first post.

First off, this is not a spot race.

This is the Contest to create a spot race.

Only one theme... "End of a Gen."

Changes in the generations of cars are similar to the changes in generations of game consoles.

The GTR R34 is now the R35, the Z06 C5 is now the C6, the 911 996 is now the 997, the M3 E46 is now the E92, the Evo is now on X and the Impreza is only a station wagon! Likewise, the PS3 is out and GT5 is on the way. :sly:

The change is undeniable and usually for the better (don't forget the NSX-R is dead and the RX7 was replaced by the RX8). However, as superior as the next generation always is, I want to make the current generation last.

My challenge to you is this...
Create a spot race in GT4 that will use the PS2-generation theme and capture the best of what has been left behind.

We can have an open dicussion and eventually vote on the subject. When we decide which race best represents the theme a winner will be crowned and off to the spot race section we shall go!

Remember, only one rule- my theme above. Other than that, the rules are up to you since you will be the one creating a spot race to represent that theme. :mischievous:

I'm in no rush, this is an open discussion of the theme and any spot races that are submitted will be discussed indefinately. Once we have a group of races submitted I will post a poll and we can have a final vote (maybe it will be in november of '08, who knows!).

Are you up to the challenge?

Ok, building on the first post and Tedehur's post...

Arcade Mode:
Time Trial:

El Capitan (normal)

N3 Road Tires

All stock (power and weight)

Your choice of cars:
Nissan Skyline GT-R V-spec II Nur. '02
Honda NSX-R '02
Mazda RX-7 Spirit R Type A '02
RUF RGT '00
Corvette Z06 '00
BMW M3 CSL '03

The results will be a bit spread out with the GT-R in last place but they will all be fun driving. I'm going with Capitan because of what Tedehur said plus the long straight will help show any changes to the tuning.
Of course, cheating is for lossers and GT5 will put an end to that anyway. So let's try to have one final spot race without concern for anything other than fun cars on a fun track.

What do you all think?
(btw, I'm suprised I didn't come up with more cars and I'm still debating using the GTR R-tune in place of the Nur)

Edit:
Fuji 2005 wouldn't be bad either and I'm also considering the idea of doing this at Tsukuba.
Plus, Tsukuba is short enough for everyone to run all of the cars without a problem. 👍 (then it wouldn't be just a matter of getting in the RGT and walking on the competition. :sly: )

Looks like it's going in the good direction.
Tsukuba would indeed be a good choice to give everyone a chance to use all cars.

How long do you want the race to last ?
One week ? One month ? Until GT5 is released ? :mischievous:

If you want to gear the competition more towards close racing, there are another few cars worth considering:

'91 Merc 190E Evo: along with the M3 Sport Evo, the last of the German lightweights, heralding the demise of the class and the spiritual kickoff of the Teutonic horsepower wars

'98 Celica GT-4: The final true rally-bred AWD Celica, marking the end of Toyota's long involvement in true AWD rally excellence

'98 300ZX 2-seater: The last Zed to feature the 300 moniker, and the last before the only break in Z-production since the 240 - the death of a 9-year modern classic, and a 15-year marque. Also one of the last production performance-oriented cars to feature Nissan's long-heralded 3000-series motor.

'00 Mustang SVT Cobra R: The final, and some would argue the ultimate, expression of the Mustang that ruled the nineties American muscle scene.

'01 Impreza STI Prodrive Style: The purest-bred of the "Bugeye" years of the Impreza, the body style now most desired among the bulk of STI owners. The last STI before the styling began a downward trend towards greater civility.

'02 MR-2 Spyder: The last in Toyota's long line of magnificently balanced mid-engined sport coupes, harking back to the MR2 of the mid-eighties

'03 TVR T350: The last truly beautiful TVR produced before the Russian buyout; what many consider to be among the final nails in the coffin to the truly-domestic British motoring industry

It's possible that some of these cars could replace some of the more disparately-powerful competitors to open up more interesting tracks than Tsukuba.

i agree with cyril/tedehur that el capitan is quite emblematic in gt4, and to me it is by far the best track in the game as well.
emblemetic cars it gt4 are of course the 350z gt4 version and the ford gt II racer. the nissan is on the cover of our (pal) gt4 box that you buy in the shops together with the ps2, and the ford gt racer is the star in the gt4 starter video.

ok so here it is.
first race: ford gt racer II, el cap forward, gt mode, full options, 3 laps, trial run.
second race: nissan 350z gt4 version, el cap reverse, gt mode, full options and s3 compound, 3 laps, trial run.
