Demo shocks during TT

Mine glitches a little bit, but I don't think it really affects laptimes... I am running 40GB PS3 on a 66cm SD TV. :dopey:

If it glitches at the wrong time it will. One time it glitched on me just as I hit the shift from 3rd to 4th and as a result it DIDN'T shift and I bounced on the limiter twice more before I was able to react. On my fastest lap now it glitched in the tight hairpins just as I was to pick up the throttle on the exit and it screwed my timing resulting in wheelspin.:grumpy:

I've got a European launch 60GB PS3 and this demo freezes for a fraction of a second in two place. Nearly every time I cross the start/finish line and every lap on the looping left just before the right hander that leads onto the back straight. I play in 1080P.

The first freeze is not an issue. The second freeze is very distracting.

Seems to me to be at, or near ghost cross over. Whether or the ghost is on, it doesn't seem to matter.......... I think.
20 month old 40GB, never a problem, on a Sony Bravia 1080p.

You guys reading this?

I have a third gen (last before slim) 80GB, works great. Not a single hiccup, stutter, anything. Clearly something's different with the original PS3's.
I would start asking Sony.

I have a 80GB MSG4 bundle PS3 (second gen maybe?) and it hiccups about 10 times a lap.

At first I thought it was my tv since it used to do that, send it in for repair, came back working fine. I'm getting a very small hiccup in prologue about once every 3 mins which is from the TV since it began this week. It's much worse in this demo and it's happening to a lot more people so I don't know what to think. It could be that this demo is doing something with the frame rate that most TVs can't deal with and my TV is also screwed up again

Add another original 60gb that is doing several times per lap. Running in 1080p, haven't tried 720p yet.

Hmmm what firmware do you guys have?
The last one (3.15) wasnt mandatory, maybe thats the problem.

That's exactly what I thought. I was running 3.10 but just updated and I'm gonna test it here. Hopefully all that is needed is an update.

Well, I've got a 1st gen Euro 60g ps3 running firmware 3.15 connected to a philips 1080 plasma.

I get the odd tearing issue in the demo but no stuttering, however, when I tried to turn the ps3 on for my last go last night I had to reset all the HDMI settings on the ps3 as I couldn't get any picture on the screen.

Annoying, but I never gave it any more thought until I read this thread.

I noticed it too, 40GB 720p. Tested on 1080i and it seemed to be a bit better, but my times where significantly slower and also it happens totally random with / without ghost...
so, yeah kinda annoying, if it happens at the wrong place.
Also why I was so much slower (~2 seconds) on 1080i is a mystery.
I also tried sharpen option in game and it seemed to be a little better. That could've been random again tho, so I don't know.

However, I'd really prefer constant 30FPS over these 60FPS hiccups 👎

Mine lags a little several times a lap. I have a launch U.S. PS3 running at 1080p. It is a little annoying, but I'm kind of use to it after playing shift, and forza 3. Shift lags something awful for me on the ps3, and forza 3 does it about like the GT5 demo is for me. It kind of worries me, because if it's doing it running TT's then how bad will it be with other cars on the track. The only time forza 3 does it is when there are 3 or 4 cars on the screen at once. If GT5 is doing it with just my car in view, then if there are 16 cars rinning and 4 or 5 get in view at once the game may come to a complete stop.

40 GB PS3 running at 1080p and I've got these hiccups aswell, at the start/finish line and at random places during the lap, but not every lap.

I have a FIRST Gen PS3 with a 7200 RPM HDD, 1080p no screen tear, no shocking, nothing. Most I did in a run was 12 laps, then quit to main menu and switch cars, never noticed anything weird about it.

80GB (upgraded to 250GB) US 1st Gen @ v3.15 on a Dynex 42" 1080p LCD, as smooth as the grass is slick.

Maybe it's the first gen hard drives. It seems like you guys that upgraded to a larger HD don't have the problem.

maybe its a problem with 1st gen HDD's ? mine is a year from release but still 1st gen i think, 60GB 4 USB ports. and i have the occasional hiccup, but i never even agnoledged them as anything majour to be honest, doesnt bother me.

I upgraded to a no-standard HDD on my 40GB PS3 and it still has issues.......

Seems to be completely random.

The only other thing I can think, the demo seems to rely quite heavily on the internet, maybe it's people with slower connections that get the glitches?

Nothing is completely random. ;)

If we want to get a little more technical, my 320GB Seagate Momentus 7200.3 rev.2 SATA drive with 16MB of cache memory spins at 7200RPM.

I know many folks just go for the cheaper rev.1 5400RPM drives, which makes sense since the PS3 uses the SATA rev.1 standard and not the SATA rev.2 standard. That limitation certainly nullifies the effect of having more potential throughput by using a faster SATA rev.2 compatible drive.

But, there are still certain drive specifications that could affect the performance of this game, such as the overall latency of the drive, average seek time and average write time. Faster rev.2 drives generally have better latency, seek and write stats overall.

Regardless, since all versions of the PS3 come stock with 5400RPM rev.1 SATA drives, there really shouldn't be a hard drive related problem. Unless it's clogged with pron.

Same here... game pauses for a fraction of a second.... like you have a 3yr old hitting the pause button when you least want them to. Makes it impossible for a clean lap, especially when it happens at your breaking marker, or turn marker on the track.. frustrated me enough to give up on it.

Was pounding on my desk in anger. Happens about once or twice a lap, and just about every time I cross the finish line.

60GB May 2007 PS3 upgraded to a 5400RPM 320GB HDD
