Sorry if this doesn’t warrant a new thread, but I had a pretty enjoyable race last night and it resulted in me loosing SR points, but I don't think I did anything wrong.
Below is the footage of the whole race and the results screen at the end with a big fat red B under SR (which as far as I can tell, means I over-all lost SR points).

I make this thread not to attack anyone else or name names or whatever, I enjoyed the race and the battles a lot, but just to try and get a better understanding of what GT Sport wants of me so.

Disclaimer, I did one practice lap (which was my quali lap), prior to that one lap I've not driven that car on that track so each lap I was basically learning, please don't hate me for being slow haha

If I did make mistakes or caused contact with other drivers then I welcome feedback

Only watched half the video and you bumped the lexus twice. The second time, in particular, it's 100% your fault because you saw the guy and kept the wide line that would taken you off track if you hadn't bump him (you were doing the corner at 67mph when you should be at 63/64 max). Don't know what happened for the second half but what happened on the first 2 laps was probably the reason why you got the red.

If the lexus had cone off track on the first situation, you'd have gotten a 10sec penalty. Good that he broke hard. :)

ps: overall I don't think it was a bad race on your part, but small things count :) Better to be extra cautious when you don't know the people you're racing with.

The one at the final corner? Fair enough, I guess that comes with knowing the track more, but I felt I could make the final cerbing.. but maybe not lol

But yeah the first bump I gave him from behind did surprise me, I didn't expect him to be in front of me for the breaking zone, I could see him coming on the radar but then he was in front and braked just before I did

Yea you caused contact a few times, some forced and one other time I saw was the other drivers fault. But you did cause a few forced bumps

Maybe you could if you had the outside line empty (I don't think so) but there was a car there anyway. :D

haha yeah... to be honest this was the first go being aggressive, usually I'm pretty passive and let faster guys through to help my SR... but that dosn't make for too much fun so I'm just trying to find the limit... but it's kinda hard to judge, especially without any peer review lol

The overall problem I think is that you were on the edge of your ability while passing guys who were making mistakes. If you’d have slowed a bit, you’d have passed them while they made their mistakes. Instead you went faster than you could manage and caused contact when they (or you) lost it.

Also, you’re slow - maybe it’s your car or setup or something. I think 8 secs slower than pole for quali and about 4 secs off pace on the race despite putting in a couple of clean laps. The reason that is a problem, is that you’re not able to drive away from dangerous drivers around you.

I’d suggest you let the SR hunting go and try to get faster and get your DR up. If you try and keep your SR up you’ll be racing against people who are fast and clean and that means you have to try and drive beyond your limit to compete leading to incidents like that race.

That’s my feeling from watching that anyway...

One lap of practice (my quali time) and stock setup.
I think I'm a long way from what I can do, I think my second lap was a second faster than my quali time?
idk it it's clear or not but I'm trying to figure out the where the breaking zones are and the best line during the race, and I don't always get this right, hence the collision on the last corner with the Lexus.

I think I do an alright job of avoiding drivers, but when I'm driven into mid corner, not sure what else I could really do?

Only watched the first lap, and in my honest opinion you are a bit too aggressive, the chicane is a dangerous place for overtaking, you win 2 positions there but you didnt kept your line, there was no contact just because of luck, the red car braked early to avoid contact and the yellow one goes offtrack,
if those two guys were aggressive like you (and a bit faster probably) that situation would be a wreckfest. So i think you should be more patience, you will get faster with time, dont worry about that, but patience is a different thing you need it as soon as you start racing.

Well now you say all that you’ve answered your own question.

You didn’t know the track or the car, made some mistakes and got penalised. I’m sure everyone has done that - I certainly have.

I guess from the answers in this thread you see most feel you were at least partly to blame for your SR degrade, and the solution is to learn the track and the Car better.

Cannot play the video.
Edit: can now.
Edit2:
At 3:35 you ghosted yourself
At 3:50 contact
At 4:20 clear side contact to rival
At 5:48 a bit shady situation that could not be avoided because rival idiocy

This is how I saw it. Nice driving otherwise.👍
And he used roofcam with bgm while on track.

Sure is, with the hood cam you are totaly unaware of your surrounding. What with the cars in the back? You might have cut them. Radar is not all and only works for a short distance

If I did make mistakes or caused contact with other drivers then I welcome feedback, but having watched it again, I can only really see the contact at 4:20 being really my fault or at least partially. Though I think I'm being fairly generous at taking the blame for that, given that he did move into my line after running far too deep in the corner.
To me, the contact at 4:20 was completely avoidable. You had 3/4 of the track on the inside after the car in front clearly understeered to the outside. All you needed was a tap on the brakes to bring the front end around and tuck inside but instead you tried to roll through the corner to maintain momentum and, as a result, understeered yourself and came too close to a driver who had lost partial control and wasn't sure when traction would return. Completely unavoidable and deserving of a penalty IMO.

You did better than I would have with only one lap of practice. That doesn't amount to much in an actual race though if you can't keep it together. Everyone really should be doing a lot more than one lap of practice before jumping into an online session, IMO. If not for the sake of their SR, then for the sake of competition.

I drive with bumper camera and don't get into that many touches at all. I can see behind me if someone of coming for an overtake and I pretty much only need to give a car's width. If something more happens, it's not my fault. If someone is beside me, I use the proximity sensor. It works OK.

If you use cockpit view you won't get as good of a view around you and even if you use the 3rd person view, you don't know how close you are of the guy in front (yes, a lot of times we race that close and we need to do it in order to overtake).

Every camera has pros and cons (cockpit being the worse, especially without the option of increasing filed of view) so I don't think that's a point to bring up unless the person mentions it. :)

Im in cockpit view. I just wish i could decrease the FOV and put a virtual mirror on screen.

I wish the camera settings mirrored those offered by F1 2017.
I alternate between cockpit and bonnet views, depending on the car and track, some of the GR3 cars offer dash screens showing a pretty good amount of info on whats behind you... and being able to see your delayed inputs helps when correcting over-steer

Yeah that's fair enough (as discussed above :) ), but as you say the other guy lost partial control, so while I was to blame for under-steering, wouldn't they also be partly to blame for just clumsy unnecessary contact?

But other than that?

IMO no, I would not assign any blame to them at all. You had most of the track available to you and lots of time to react. IMO the greatest onus is on the car behind to avoid contact whenever possible. Had they cut across the track from outside to inside it would be different. Had this all happened directly in front of you, not giving you time to react, again that would be different. But that's not what happened. Evasion action was available and you either weren't aware quickly enough or deliberately avoided taking it. Either way it falls on the following driver in this particular case, IMO.

Other than that I didn't see anything that I would penalize you for, in a perfect world:sly:

You are a bit aggressive, contact with Lexus was somewhat your fault. The rest was mostly just aggressive driving between you and Jag. That Audi got ahead of you near that chicane in the end and you still went right on the inside to keep your position. I would say that's a draw, but if he didn't brake and get behind you would of been collision. I think you're a quick driver. Driving with a setup doesn't make you a better or faster driver.

I just got my SR up to S today (DR still at D, tho). Only done about 15 Sport mode races. I must've done at least 50 laps in qualifying just to practice. It really helps you find braking points, lines and help you get to know the car better.

I'm not that quick (1:47 in Kyoto in a 458 Gr.3), but I tried avoiding contact like my life depended on it. Sure, I had to yield sometimes, even though I had the right to the line. But if the other guy ain't budging, we usually have 2 choices: we make contact and risk losing more places, or yield once, and get him in the next corner.

I've noticed that moving up the SR tiers, the drivers do get cleaner. I've hardly had any major contact in my last few races in the SR A tier. I'm guessing that SR S will be even cleaner (but might have less ghosting?). It's worth working to avoid contact to be grouped with other clean drivers eventually. And the only way to do that is to know the track and your car inside out, so you can always adapt to changing situations.

is that a problem?
I think the roof cam contributed to the multiple contacts due to the lack of situational awareness it causes.

But for the most part those were racing incidents of someone who is learning and I'm not really sure how to be constructive when your view doesn't help you to know where your opponents are.

I only drive in cockpit and I usually move the seat up a bit until it feels good and I tend to prefer cars that have some rear vision so I have a decent idea where other cars are around me.

Run at least a dozen qualifying laps before getting into any race. Knowing the track is a must in this game, you'll get faster and smoother the more you practice. You'll get a better starting position, you'll know the track more and your DR and SR will go up faster. We're all a couple of weeks into this now and my experience is patience and practice pay off. My DR is C and going up and my SR has been S for a few days now. I'm having some great races and still run some qualifying laps to get my times down. My best time at yamagi ? Is 1:45.7 and I can get 147-148 in race traffic clean.

Even though there was no SR loss, I'm curious about what people think of 5:40 where there was contact when OP cut on the inside of the turn.

Is this something they should not have done?

Is it on the other driver to widen their turn a little bit to avoid people that do this?

I'd say both are at fault. The other driver should've anticipated the attack more carefully, and baldgye should've braked later in order to be more in front of him. But the other guy was clearly more reckless, as seen with his push a couple of seconds after that corner.
