Driving south on Rainier Ave S next to the shore of Lake Washington in south Seattle, listening to my new Shovels and Ropes CD. "That's an Autozam AZ-1. Dum dee dum nice music la dee da." Half a block later "Oh holy šŸ¤¬ that's an Autozam AZ-1!" Turn around, park, get pics. It's over 25 years old, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised to see one in the US now, but still, it's a freaking Autozam AZ-1 right here in Seattle. And it is tiiiiiiiiiiiny.

Had lunch with a friend on Saturday, then we walked over to a guitar shop nearby. On the way back to the car, we discovered a group of Datsun roadster owners had arrived and parked in a nice line. Just a bunch of really nice SPL310s, SPL311s, and SRL311s. My favorite was a coppery red SRL311 sitting on black Wats, but honestly, every one was a beauty.

Man I love those early Fairladys.

In Massachusetts to pick up a car for my work and spotted this. Didn't expect to see a Delta Integrale with a Maine plate.

I love the Delta, but I'm not sure I would want to own one, because I'd be trying to drive it like Juha Kankkunen everywhere I went.

More recent things I saw:

Maserati Quattroporte, I was at a country club for a family event and this was there.

BMW X6 M and Mercedes-AMG C63 behind it, also at the country club.

That's a Triumph Stag - a 4 seater Grand Tourer fitted with a 3.0 V8 - the Triumph Spitfire was a little 2 seater four pot.
Oh really? Cool, that's way better than thinking it was a Spitfire; I haven't seen a Stag before. nor knew it existed, thank you!

Not a car, but still super cool.

A guy at a local swap meet had a few old GM engines on stands (the others were a Buick Nailhead V8, Cadillac V8, and a GMC Straight-6), but this one caught my eye. It's a GMC V12, and even though it may look like it, it's not exactly two V6s welded together; rather, it has a single block and crankshaft, with the heads and exhausts separated so that parts from GMC's 351 cu.in. V6s could be reused. This also means that it has four cylinder heads, four exhaust manifolds, and two intake manifolds to provide breathing for this 11.5 liter behemoth. I've only seen one other Twin-Six in my life, and that was in a modified late '50s GMC truck years ago. It was awesome to get a sense of scale next to the V8s, especially since they're so rare.

They are very common at UK car shows, but must be very rare in the US. This video gives you a closer look. They have the best sounding V8 that I've ever heard, with the possible exception of the Daimler 2.5 litre V8!

On Friday mornings I sometimes call at Brands Hatch to see what is being tested. This unique and very historic Cobra was having a quick shakedown test and was then packed up for a race at another circuit.

It's a 289 Cobra MK2, but not a Shelby Cobra - it was delivered direct by AC Cars to team owner Tommy Atkins in the UK who fitted the motor and prepared it for racing. In 1964 ex F1 racer Roy Salvadori drove it to 3rd place in the GT support race at the Brands Hatch GP. That year Roy was experiencing understeer at Goodwood - the team fitted the front spoiler. This car was also raced in period by Chris Amon, Bob Bondurant and many other fine drivers and is regularly invited to the Goodwood Revival.

I was quite surprised that such a valuable Cobra was being transported on an open trailer.

Spotted in the carpark at Brands Hatch - a Peerless GT. Approximately 325 were made between 1957 and 1960. The works entry came 16th in the 1958 Le Mans 24 Hours. Advanced for its time with Triumph TR3 mechanicals, De Dion tube rear suspension, space frame chassis and fibreglass body. Probably not many left on the road, but a few are used for historic racing in the US and UK.

Totota Hi-Ace fire truck with Chinese writing all over it.

That's Japanese. This was a Japanese import.

There's a few of them knocking around.

Spotted outside a Registry Office - not your usual vintage Rolls Royce wedding car - something much rarer and more sporting - a 1939 Lagonda LG6 Saloon. Designed by W.O. Bentley while Chief Engineer of Lagonda this car features a 4.5 litre, straight six Meadows engine and cost Ā£1270 in 1939 (more than the price of a house). Modern features for the time include independent front suspension and dual circuit hydraulic brakes. Top speed approximately 100mph. There was also a faster and more expensive (Ā£1800) 4.5 litre overhead cam V12 version.

There is a spare wheel cover on each running board behind the front wheel - one contains a spare - the other is faux and contains the tool kit and an inspection lamp!

Note I only had time to get one picture, but have included a dashboard snap taken by someone else.
