there was an article in the papers about the guy that owns the phantom,599 and drophead.

That guy has some backwards logic. If the council is going to tow his Phantom away, how will the Magnum make it any harder? Hell, that makes it easier considering the fact that the Phantom is not only at least 30 inches longer, but also weighing at least 1,800 pounds more.

its a dodge ram hes getting (according to the full article)

The Phantom Parker is not ‘just the ticket’ for city council

He's the Phantom Parker of Old Glasgow Town.

Meet Alan Love, the property tycoon who leaves his Roller wherever he wants, and damn the cost of tickets.

For months Mr Love has been parking his £250,000 "ultra-luxury" Rolls-Royce Phantom on city-centre double yellow lines, collecting - and paying - thousands of pounds worth of fixed-penalty notices.

Mr Love cheerfully admits he's happy to pay the fines, as long as he can keep his car close to his office. "I feel I am doing the council a favour," he said yesterday. "I am giving them a bit of revenue."

Council chiefs aren't so sure. They think the car - registration number 11UV - is obstructing the road. Miffed officials have even tried to impound the two-and-half-tonne motor but can't lift it on to the back of their truck as it's too heavy.

The authority has also received complaints from members of the public angry at what they see as brazen disrespect for the law.

"Glasgow City Council takes contraventions of parking regulations extremely seriously," said a spokeswoman yesterday.

"This individual repeatedly flouts the law but in doing so pays an extremely high price in parking fines. That is his choice. The council will continue to issue fines to any driver parking illegally.

"Yellow lines have a purpose - to allow premises to be serviced as well as to ensure the free flow of traffic."

Mr Love, who used to own the Drover's Inn at Inverarnan near Loch Lomond, said he is currently paying a maximum of £150 a week in fines - which are only £30 each if paid within two weeks.

His Rolls-Royce is nearly six metres long and two wide, making it difficult to park in municipal car parks. "The problem I have with my vehicle is that it does not fit in Buchanan Galleries or other major car parks," he said.

"I don't mind paying the fines," he added. "I get on quite well with the parking attendants."

Mr Love has had brushes with the parking authorities before. One row dates from when he built a drop-off point outside Lang's Hotel on Killermount Street, which he owned at the time.

The council kept giving him tickets for parking in his own drop-off zone, which had double yellows, but, argued Mr Love, belonged to him. The stand-off ended in talks.

Mr Love said he came back from negotiations to find his car had been ticketed while he was away.

There have been far worse parking menaces than Mr Love. The prize for biggest offender in Glasgow is held by an unnamed woman who, by January 2003, had collected some £28,000 worth of fines for parking on George Square. Another individual was said to owe £12,000.

Glasgow City Council in the last financial year made £5.5m from fines, a drop of £1m from the year before.

The Herald understands the council has recently issued Mr Love with a total of 74 fixed-penalty notices, all of which have been paid, a total of more than £2000. The Rolls, until recently, was not Mr Love's only car.

"I've seen him in a Ferrari and a Bentley," said a trader in Dundas Street, in the city centre, where the Phantom Parker is regularly to be found.

"We like it. We think he brings a bit of class to the street."

He may not be using the Rolls for much longer. The Herald understands council officials are now looking to get more powerful equipment to remove the 6-litre Phantom.

Mr Love has heard that rumour too. His answer is another dodge - a giant Dodge Ram Pick-up.

"I am ordering it from America," he said last night. "Because of the physical size of it, it just won't go on the back of a truck."

Then that makes more since. I was sitting here wondering, "What the? Does this guy realize his mistake?"

Either way, threatening the Council with getting a bigger car will only help him so much. The typical Ram is still around the same length as the Phantom (230in), so he'll have to hope that new truck can't tow 6,700 lbs.

But if this guy has so much money, why doesn't he just pay to have a bigger park space made for his own use in his building?

I'll almost guarantee that it's a GTO with Holden body and exhaust mods. It wouldn't be hard at all to buy a cat-back exhaust (and if it splits after the rear axle, just an axle-back) for a Holden, along with the trunk lid and bumpers. You just bolt them on within an hour..

True enough, it would be probably pretty easy to get all that stuff imported.

That guy is an absolute moron, in my eyes.

I mean, he understands the illegality and pays the fine - so far, so (not so) good - but when they threaten to find a way to remove the Royce, he threatens to buy an even-bigger car? He's a real jerk.

And when they tow his Dodge is he going to run off and get one of these?

Hello again GTP. SOme spots from the lasst couple of days. My PC is driving me mental as it keeps crashing during file transfer with my phone-cam. I'm fed up so I'm only going to post a few pics for the time being before I throw the thing off my balcony. If my memory card is corrupted, I'm going to gouge my eyes out with a teaspoon as there were some pretty tasty spots!

Finally caught one of these on the road:
n38505333_31912245_8835.jpg

Ooh C30s are great little cars! My mom got one for a loaner few weeks back, very nice ride. Very un-Volvo like. Not quite as firm as a Mini, but leaning towards it.

A real drivers' car this.

Didn't you try it out when you were shopping for hatchbacks?

They were at a local Volvo dealership and they let me take one for a test drive, very nice car, although it can be a bit pricey. The only thing I didn't really like about it was the fuel mileage and the insurance compared to the Cooper. I probably would have just spent the extra 3 or 4 grand and got one if they insurance hadn't been outrageous.

Great shots as always, chaser_fan...

My spots yesterday:

360-120107.jpg

Older driver. It AMAZES me how infrequently I see 360s now - this is just my third spot since returning to Atlanta more than three months ago.

Rolls-Royce Phantom.

only abit jealous then ? :D
the article makes it seem worse than it really is,hes always parks on a dead end road so he isnt causing any obstruction at all and theres no shops on that street and where he is parked, trucks arent allowed to offload at that end of the road and he isnt "threaten" to buy a bigger car,he can buy what he wants.there isnt anywhere for him to park anyway as the phantom doesnt fit in the space, even the other phantom that parks in the city centre on daily basis has to use 2 spaces.

why doesn't he just pay to have a bigger park space made for his own use in his building?
do you know a council that will let you make your own parking space? most might "auction" spaces off but i doubt they would sell him one outside his office.

Thanks.👍

That is now my favourite colour of any car ever.

Here's a bigger image for you. There were only 50 of these built apparantlym so it's nice to see one in the flesh. As he passed under the bridge, the guy put his foot down and the thing hit warp speed and was off into the distance before I had time to photograph the back.

The nice blue paint matches the fake carbonfibre stickers, too. Lame. 👎

I was wondering about that when I read this 'The upper door moulds as well as the ‘voletto’ or pillar surrounding the rear window where the petrol door is located, feature an optic carbon fibre coating.' So they stuck on some cabon-fibre effect decals? That's a little tacky isn't it! I'm not a huge fan of Lambos anyway. I think they're a bit crass. Always an event seeing one though!

No, I don't. But I just figured, with all the money this guy supposedly has, why doesn't he just convince or ask the council for his own private space. Oh well. I don't particular find the guy to be the brightest anyway from the article.

CF, the aston next to the CSL is a Vanquish.
Really nice spots there man, seems like you got more pics than you would at your average car show! Incredible, espesh the Diablo and Murcie 40th.

Im not sure the 5 series next to the maser spider is an M5 though, those wheels were never an option (and why downgrade?) and im pretty sure its not even made in that colour....

Regardless, +rep 👍
Edit: wait..what? why cant i see the rep button? Did i miss something?

Thanks very much for the positive comments, bondy! Ooh I think that may be my first Vanquish sighting! I was puzzled by what I thought to be an M5 as it has the intakes on the front fenders I thought it must be, but the colour and wheels just seemed out of place. On closer inspection, this one appears to have chrome surrounds around the windows which an authentic M5 doesn't. So, I guess it must just be a regular 5-series. Yeah, there were certainly a lot of nice cars on the road yesterday lunchtime. I think this may become my regular Sunday thing now. All I need is a nice small camera with better resolution and a faster start up speed as I miss quite a lot of stuff due to having to resort to my camera phone. My personal favourite spots were the 996 GT3 RS for coolness and the Vanquish and the Turbo RT for rarity.

I saw a sweet galardo on the motorway once...so fats that when he went over a hill on the motorway he actually got air...u could totaly hear it.
