Dont forget the middle east.:) (dubai, UAE...etc)
We need somebody from there.

Yeah, you're right. But as *McLaren* said the really rare stuff is the vintage metal (pre-1970's) which mainly resides in Europe, the US and to some extent Japan. Still love to check out the cars in Dubai though. My buddy is quite possibly moving there soon, so we may yet have a DYSAGT correspondent in the Middle East.

Same here! Pretty odd sticking with a soft top though. Do Audi have any hard top convertibles?

Not yet as far as I'm aware, unless they have plans to turn the A5 into one. I'm not sure why it's odd sticking with soft-tops though, Audi do them properly and they're pretty much as well insulated as any hard-top cabrio! Plus, it reduces the unnecessary engineering and weight. Have you seen the roof on the VW Eos?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrEtaQ9GOAo&feature=related

Very impressive, but can you imagine how much all that stuff weighs (and all the extra bits to go wrong...). Folding metal roofs are great but there's something to be said for fabric ones occasionally. Give me a manual cloth top on an MX5 that can be put down in 3 seconds and weighs nothing, to the folding metal version that take 15 seconds and adds weight and cost...

You may have some good sightings in Germany, possibly Austria and the more salubrious parts of Italy. Any chance you can get yourself over the border to Switzerland? There are some interesting cars there. Make sure you don't limit yourself to modern cars and definately keep your eyes out and get photos of all the classic cars you see too. Have a great trip, we're all looking forward to the pics!

I wont make it to switzerland this time, but Ill keep my eyes open for classics! T-Minus 2 days till I leave, hopefully ill have some good spots!

Dubai & the UAE are ok, but they're too tacky. They have a lot of nice cars, but many are ruined by just down right ugly color combinations mixing colors that don't flow or adding on gross body parts.

It works too much like Monaco. You'll see plenty of the mainstream Porsches, Ferraris, Lambos, etc., and afterwards, eventually find who and where has what exotic. Besides that, they move with the times. In 10 years, the stuff you see now will just be sitting in some workshop or garage nearly dead. That's my guess as to why anything before 1990 is a real treat to see there.

Old Peugeot estate, maybe a 304? Any French car in Michigan is rare.

Toyota Supra.

1960's era GMC Carryall aka Suburban.

505 - My Dad used to have one (505 GTi) back in England when I was but a nipper. Great car!

Thanks for the clarification. Hmm, after a bit of research it appears they were sold in the states. I figured it was a weird import or something through Canada.

"Nice ITR"
"Thanks"
"I like the de-wing"
"Actually, someone stole it"

So it's a little overcooked... I tried out underexposure with last week's M3, so I thought I'd give overexposure a try. I'm not even sure myself if I like it, I've never been a fan of heaps of black on very bright pictures. Hopefully it looks halfway good on other monitors. The owner drove away right after that shot, so I only got one more. I could've been there for a while...

Because of the different levels of light between the two angles, it was nearly impossible to match them up in post production. I might give it another try though

There was one of those A3 cabrios at the show too, though next to the R8, RS6, TT S and S5 I forgot to take a photo...

They're supposed to be rare but there are at least three around where I live! I'm undecided on them... I had a sit in it and I'd love to drive one, given how fun the normal Cooper Works was, but the styling could have been so much better excecuted. It's grown on me, I think if they'd allowed more colour options and dispenced with the tacky stickers it would have been great. When you see how good the normal Cooper S Works looked with the BMW body kit and some Cooper wheels...

...then the Works GP could have been equally mean but a fair bit more tasteful too. Imagine that one above with the extra power, the reduction in weight etc that the GP has...

I saw this Mini a week or two ago,is that the same car as in your picture?

No, that's a normal MINI Cooper.

It's a Cooper S with some JCW parts on it, mainly the rear spoiler.

The one in the pic I posted has a lot of options, as well as the John Cooper Works engine/chassis package.

The one you posted has no options on it, in fact it has options deleted out of it. The GP was more or less a raced prep MINI that was built in limited quantities. If my memory serves me right it didn't eve have a back seat.

===

Anyways on the way home from work I saw a few decent things.

Lamborghini Diablo:

P6162615.jpg

P6162614.jpg

Ferrari Testerossa
P6162612.jpg

Acura NSX
P6162616.jpg

All at a car detail shop right next to were I work. The sound of the Diablo pulling out of the place was unholy.

I saw both a Fahrenheit GTi and a 30th anniversary Camaro today at a Cumberland Farms gas station. And I thought about bringing my camera to the last day of school too... :ouch:

You misunderstand, I mean the pic of the red one I posted, which was a normal Works Cooper S with options. The Works GP, which you're referring to (and I posted previously), is the one with no rear seats, only a large bit of carpet and a rear strut brace, that they've somehow managed to make look cheap and nasty. The GP is lighter than the standard Works but equally as well equipped.

That Lamborghini has kitcar smell all over it.

Let's start with obvious. The chrome rims I believe were only on the Monterey Editions. And yet, no Monterey's have been known to have a 6.0 VT front bumper conversion. Plus, none were built with the first-gen. Diablo's high rear wing.

There's a good chance it could be real, but I highly doubt it now that some companies have managed to master replicating the chassis itself.

Pretty good kit car if it is one, it was the same size and made the same noise as the other Diablo saw.

The verdict at FChat has deemed it real, but it was what I thought it was after second-guessing.
It's not a 6.0, but a '98 SV Monterey Edition with '91 Spoiler, and a '01 front bumper.

Being that it is a Monterey Edition, Joey should feel very lucky. There were only 20 of these $245,000 cars made.

 ANOTHER photoless post... this time an FXX is in order!

Crapsticks!!!

Anyway, before I have to produce Jerry Seinfeld in 911 #001:

Volkswagen R32 2008

Not sure why I still try and photograph this thing. It's far from the prettiest VW, and I would still buy the previous version over this. Maybe it's the blue. I'll figure it out someday.

Subaru Impreza WRX STi

The ugly one. Posted for the second and last time. Until I get off my duff and do a review of the damned thing. I owe it at least to myself.

BMW Z3 Coupe

Still rarer than any Z3M...except the Z3M Coupe.

Audi S8 2002

I prefer this one to the new V10 version, but then again, I really did like Ronin....

Plymouth Barracuda 1971

It had Hemi tags on it, but I'm doubting it was a Hemi. Not at that gas station. Love the color, though.

Rolls-Royce Corniche

Must be all sorts of cool and floaty in there.

Jaguar XK120

At least, I think it is. Might be a '140, but still a nice classic Jag.

Jaguar XKR Convertible 2008

<fill in witty comment here>

Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG

<fill in witty comment about how it was right near the XKR>

Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG

Still looking for the Black Edition. This will do for now, though...if only it had a manual transmission.

Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG

Compliments the previous-generation SL63 I spotted over a year ago...which no one bought. Two well-to-do blondes inside, but not the ditzy kind. Looked like they knew what they were driving.

Lotus Esprit Turbo ~1979

Extraordinarily clean, rust-free, and sounding good for a Lotus of that era. Did not get a chance to see it move, as we were all stuck in traffic.

Porsche 911 Turbo 997

Same owner of the V8V seen earlier. Same parking lot as the Ford GT/Carerra GT/SL600 owner. Not the same owner as the M5 next to it.

Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet 997

First cabriolet I was able to capture. The drop-top seems to be out sooner than the 996 version was, isn't it?

Triumph Speed Triple

Not much up on bikes, not the least because I'd feel painfully agoraphobic on one. But the Speed Triple I'm familiar with...by name only. That and all the Ducati's that go by too fast for me to capture.

====================================

There's not many good car shows in the Northeast. Most likely due to snow and the resulting salty roads, but if global warming has its way with us, that won't be an issue much longer. That leaves the NYIAS (lame) and the Scarsdale Concours. Started by two kids in high school 5 years ago. When they were freshmen. What did you do in your spare time back then?

I can't post the whole show, nor do I think I should. It's highlights only. The cars posted here are either super-rare or privately-owned. The rest are posted on the show's website. For example, the 599 GTB with the sticker in the window was given a complete miss by me.

The impending rain meant about 1/3 of the cars didn't feel like showing up. The biggest absence was from the USDM market, which meant only a handful of American classics were on hand, most from Miller Motorcars, in Greenwich, CT. Between them and Mercedes of White Plains, there was enough filler to attract a reasonable crowd. But it still couldn't convince me to post the unsold SLR McLaren Roadster.

My favorite of the show is the Ferrari 288 GTO. It's my favorite Ferrari, actually. It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.

Spyker C8 Spyder

Dino 206

Ferrari 288 GTO

Lancia Stratos

Lamborghini Diablo Jota Americana

Porsche Carrera GT & Porsche Carrera GT

No, the twit in the middle who simply could not figure out how to get out of the shot was not with me.

BMW/Alpina B12 5.7

The 80's references just keep on rolling....

Koenigsegg CCX

Bugatti Veyron

Aston Martin DB7 GT

The one true spot of the day, as it was not part of the show. He did try to pull in, it seemed, but then turned around and parked on the street. The second DB7 GT I've seen & spotted; the previous was a rather appropriate green, if I remember correctly.

Edit: :dunce: Totally forgot to mention that I have my fiance to thank for coming with me, and actually having a good time. So, thanks, babe. You're the best.

Awww a harrytuttle / morganlives lovefest. How cute. Thanks for the pix harry. btw I actually think the regular Z3 Coupe IS rarer than the M Coupe, but I don't have the figures handy to back it up. Anyone?

That's awesome, epic car spot number 2 of the year right behind the Fisker.

Well, didn't adood or christhedude post some photos here with the Hummer H3 and some Porsche? But I don't usually see them at GTP any more or haven't been really active lately.... :guilty: But yeah, they are the DYSAGT correspondent in the Middle East. 👍

Nice sets of photos homeforsummer and harrytuttle. Oh an harry, did you went to a car show as well? A lot of nice cars in that photos.... 👍

Joey D: Congrats on the Diablo SV Monterey Edition spot. Certainly one of the spots of the month right there. :D:tup:

A couple of things from the past two days:

img0259ia1.jpg

Jaguar XKR S. A lot more subtle than the press pictures first suggested. Still looks pretty mean tho.

And for the US audience:

img0262xv8.jpg

Chrysler 300C Tourer SRT Pack. It's the 3.0-litre CRD diesel model with the SRT-8 bodykit. It's huuuuge for UK roads!
