Been a while since I last posted, mainly because I was reading Battle Angel Alita at work instead of doing posts for the DYSAGT thread, but now that Im done, Ill post post post!
If there is any repost here, bear with me, I already dont remember where I was in my photobucket, too many pics.
Firs off this Volvo P1800 which I think is a repost, but the car is too cool to risk not to have it posted, it was for sale for a while then disappeared, lets hope it went to a good home and here is also hope that the new owner kept those wheels!
Then, a 1958 or 59 De Sotto, a much harder car to find than its Dodge or Plymouth counterparts, and for good reason, its way uglier than those, even more so in 4 door trim; good condition in this one, seemed to be used on a regular basis.
Some kind of late 70s-early 80s Buick that was not sold in Mexico and so got my attention. Any specs on this turd?
1975 Camaro, the transition tween the good model and the bad model; Id still rock one, with an LS1 with two nose-mounted turbos, to use that massive space!
Rustbucket mid-60s Studebaker Lark, check out this pile! It lacks everything that make it a real car, its one of the most picked-out cars I have ever seen, and a very cool sight at that, you can find plenty of abandoned cars in this city, but very few in such a sad shape.
This was extremely cool but sooo sad, its a shell from a race car of the Mexican Formula Phantom, a entry-level class that happened when the Dodge Phantoms first came to Mexico, they were tube-chassis cars with fiberglass repro bodies of Phantoms that used the Turbo engine with some mods and were pretty damn cool to watch, I Remember that around my school when I was like 12 there was the shop of Jimmy Morales, a guy who raced these things and he always had two or three in there, they were awesome; finding this just forgotten and neglected, lying in the street, brought along quite the remembrances.
A Hillman of some sort, early model in Mexico too, a very very very difficult car to see in here in a state that is not a cloud of rust, I was very surprised to find this one very tattered but so complete:
Extremely rare here 1953 Buick two door hardtop, one of the most desirable models of this year, just lying there in the street, it seems someone started restoring it then dropped the project, the car was amazingly complete and seemed to have been painted in that blue color not so long ago, but the elements were starting to take their toll on the car
ti was very sad to see this car like this, but then again, ti is not an easy car to restore, even less so in here:
1962 Chevy Biscayne 4 door with Buick wheels, if you dont want to spend big bucks on an equivalent Impala this is a great chance, or if you have already spent big bucks on said Impala, this is a fantastic parts car, since its just a 4 door.
A nice Maverick with slot mags in dark gray and airscoop hood, 289 ci engine and dull red paint, a perfect daily driver muscle car if you ask me, plenty fun to drive but still civilized enough not to want to die in the process. Ill own one someday.
Optimus Prime has disciples in Mexico!!! Look, this has been one of the funniest cars Ive ever seen, check out those appendices!!! Behold the protuberances!!! Look at all the stuff going on!!! And I could not catch the front but it was even more bizarre! It was a Datsun earlier in life, but now I dont know
O_o
I saw it again recently (these pics are three years old) but did not have my camera with me, I promise to hunt it down and bring it to you in full Transformers spec glory.
A mid 60s Fiat jeep, a VERY rare car to spot in Mexico, I surprisingly have found quite my share (about 4), wich is quite a big sum because they were sold scarcely
these thingies look pretty solid, but this one had seen better days, it was abandoned, I was told, about two years ago since I took this pic, which will be about three years ago. I wonder if its still there.
An AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME 1978 Chevy Nova Malibu Rallye, a Mexico-only version of this car with a hi-po (for the day, 210 hp) 350 and a four speed with a Dana rearend that was a huge success in Mexico but was sold in limited quiantities and is now very sought-after, this one wore original stripes with false Cragars (shame) and a cool rake; about a year ago, I saw this very same car wrecked at a police impound, its front absolutely destroyed. Stupid.
I think this is a 1952 Dodge Coronet, just check out how complete and absolutely mint this car is, and also note that it has been abandoned, it now rests in three flats; how can it be possible to just forget such a good, cool car? Check out the paint, the trim, the chrome, the wheels, everything is THERE, its not like its missing some major stuff like some of the cars I have posted, this car makes me mad. Interior was perfect too.
Mexican made Borgward, a company that went down the drain in UK, then Mexican government bought and brought the tooling and started Borgward de Mexico in the mid-60s, only to realize they could not keep it running due to costs; the remaining cars are very very sought after and can be recognized by an Aztec calendar in the horn button at the steering wheel center, as this one, which was in absolutely sad shape.
Repainted Mustang Mach 1 with wire wheels by Cragar, this car looked ok but it was missing its factory stripes and Mach1 deco, Mexican model with a low-compression 351 Windsor and a 4speed.
One day while looking for old cars I turned a corner and found this awesome gathering, all of the following cars were meters one from another and seemed to belong to the same owner. They were a big bunch of vintage Mercedes and a VW to boot.
First this Pontoon S-class (you can identify them by the air intakes below the headlamps) which looked very restorable, and these cars are somewhat easy to restore, since they sold pretty well and parts availability is enormous.
Yeah, a 190 SL ragtop, absurdly rare car in Mexico and in absolutely beautiful shape, this one was having its interior redone, check out the absence of door panels , ever seen Merc 190 SL door structures? Now you can.
A long headlamp/fin Mercedes 220S, quite common car in Mexico, it sold extremely well here but precisely because of that, its now easy to see them tattered and abused, this one seemed pretty ok! Looked solid, with no rust and well restored.
Another one, this more tattered than the previous car, but plenty restorable, it lacks easy to find pieces and the rust is only surface. Nice patina.
A mid-80s 500SEC Mercedes, also extremely rare here with BBS wheels and a pretty mean demeanor, I dunno if its a V12 model but if it was, it sure was a rare car. Pretty never the less.
Another Pontoon Mercedes, in very rough shape but plenty restorable, also an S-Class, and I think the resto process may have begun on this car, as it lacks a lot of stuff but it still has good paint. Dunno.
Have you ever seen the engine of one of this thing? Check out the cam and the base for the twin carbs, this was an awesome sight!! I had never seen one of these inline sixes to their guts, it was in yet another S-class pontoon Mercedes that was being serviced; oddly no one was around to ask anything.
Lastly, this Oval window VW Bug, very well preserved (you can also see it in the 390 SL pic, in front of it) and lacking its bubble wheel covers, but come on, its an awesome car, its my ideal VW bug, Ill have one if I have the chance.
Thats it. Ill for sure post more soon (:
