I don't even remember when was the last time I posted here, but it sure has been quite a long time ago. So here we go again!! I'm done with the heavy work I've been submerged into for the past months so hopefully I'll return to post weekly again.
Start should we with a tattered Renault 8 with a seemingly home-made roof rack:
a block away sat this neat lowered Dodge truck on wire wheels, it's pretty rare to find one of these that isn't a piece of crap:
nearby was this i-6 late model AMX that was seemingly abandoned... I was far away and there was a lot of people around the car so I couldn't check it out.
No, im not as desperate as to start photographing every abandoned Bettle that I come across. Look at it closely, it is a Super Beetle. Notice curved windshield and a more bulbous bonnet, necesary to locate the McPherson front suspension arrangement these things had. They are very rare in Mexico, as they were never oficially sold here. And this one was pretty much gone.
check out the rear fender on this monstrosity:
pretty much stock 3 series slammed on M3 wheels, it looks cool:
random crappy Maverick I managed to catch as it passed by me, check out rusted-out steel wheels:
This is a contribution from a friend who knows that I'm well into the car spotting stuff, so he took these with his cellphone. This is a 1973 Charger with the rare side window louver option that's been sitting by his girl's house for God knows how many years. Love the colour.
kissing the Charger's ass, literally, is this way rare in Mexico 1974 (I think) Pontiac Grand Prix... rare because Pontiac was not present at that time in Mexico. This car is so cool.
That same day at a friend's house he saw this cool peach mild custom 1954 Chevrolet 4-door, kudos to the owner for doing funky stuff with a 4 door. It needs a very severe droo but the car is sure going in the right direction.
Notice the subtle custom grille treatment on this car. It's pretty neat and clean.
These few bunch of pics comes from my wife, who takes out her Nokia every time she sees something she thinks I'll like. Well she scored big that day when, walking towards a friend's house, she found these cars. I had already found them years ago (and I have already posted them here) but it was nice to see that the guy still owns them. The silver hardtop is new, but the yellow fastback has been there for years and is used regularly. Also very rare in Mexico as Fatsback mustangs never made it here until 1971.
1957 Ford Fairlane 4-door that looks just as when I found it years ago, lacking grille and all.
Another car that I also found that day, but it did not have a front bumper then. Glad to see it's complete now, 1965 Mustang wearing Torque Thrusts:
The red 1956 Chevy ragtop was there when I first found the cars, but the yellow and black 57 Fairlane is a new adition. Under the tarp I think there is a convertible Mustang.
Ah, haha, this. I saw this on the street and told my dad to stop to take a closer look. the 70 Barracuda/'Cuda model is incredibly sought after in here so when I saw this it was like "wtf". It was a base Barracuda with a badly grafted in shaker scoop and in a general horrible shape, but a pretty solid base for a resto/clone/custom:
So I stop checking the Barracuda and then notice this tidy 1968 Dart behind it, Turns out it is a USA Dart Sport with a 273 V8, never ever sold in here; it wears very early wide-rib Cragars:
I was starting to find a pattern here when I noticed that some guys came walking by the street towards the cars. Yeah, they were some friends from the Mopar Club Mexico that just had these cars imported from the USA for a song, and were going to, for the Barracuda, restore and maybe put a big block in it, and for the Dart just clean it and use it as it was in such a good shape. So at least they got good homes.
Ironically, as we were chatting this thing passed by, a 1969 Barracuda with Cragars, side pipes and a pretty odd paint job. I thought "if the guy is a die hard Moparista, he'll stop to check the cars out", but nah, the guy simply flew away.
And here goes the return post. Expect quite lots more from me from now on, at least one post per week!
