I bought the game yesterday and as usual going for all gold in the driving school.
I did it but the last test with the Porsche Cayman was difficult (with dpad until my wheel arrive in the mail)
I barely did 1:51 when 1:52 is gold.
I chose difficulty level expert, cause I don't want too many assists.
Now I saw on YouTube some dude did 1:45:5 so I watched is video and he was super smooth, no wheel squeel no sliding nothing. I saw he had those triangle markers that show you where you need to drive, so I guess he is not on professional setting. So I see the difference is very very big with or without assists. This makes all the licenses much easier. I have no problem with that.
My question is , if this difficulty level assist also works when racing against people online, because that would be very unfair.?
Thanks

If the lobby doesn't allow something, you can't use it. I recommend checking the lobby settings before joining, and check. SRF can make a huge difference.

In real life GT cars have abs and traction control. All of them do and all of them use it!
Most sims have a factory or real life assists setting, so that cars that do have it in real life will have it on and cars that don't ie classics, F1 cars etc won't.
It's just that all cars in GT have the exact same settings whereas in real life they all use different methods and types of traction control which work differently from car to car. As is the case in other sims such as AC and PC2.

Tc and abs yes. I was more worried about stability control and counter steering.

TC and ABS are assist that are on these cars in real life as well. No harm in using these imo, i usually put it between 0-2 depending on the car. Some use counter steer assist as well, but i dont like that when using my wheel. I do use it when playing for fun with the controller though.

I remember the day I first used the stability control in GT5 . Ruined the game for me to know that people can basically get to a corner too fast and instead of over shoot the corner, they simply turn the wheel a little more... Yay! Free grip for everyone!

Whoever is top will just be fast... Alien pace is not readily understandable for normal people ;)

@polizei
I thought stability control slows you down. I only know of the countersteer assist to help with faster lap times.

Do you really think the countersteer assist makes you faster? I use a DS4 and can't tell a difference either way. I started out with it off. I turned it on when people said it makes you faster. But, I didn't notice anything different at all.

Why would someone with alian pace wouldn't be on "professional" settings?

Why do you think they aren't on pro difficulty?

Just because they are many seconds faster than you?

I only use ABS, no lines, no cones, nothing.
I have noticed when watching my replays of Sport races, that every other car is using at least TC, the leaders are often using the stability thing.
It's a shame that sport races don't also match people on their driving aids.

I've started to bite the bullet and use TC 0 - 2, nothing else though, and only when I feel I would benefit. I think along the lines of, if the leaders / people behind are doing it, then I may as-well. On most tracks though I turn it off, I like some spin coming out of corners sometimes.

Needed TC for Bathurst last and first corners! Those curbs! Don't need it for Brands, Nurb GP, Interlargos, Suzuka, etc.

GT3 however does use TC, but its not a very intrusive system, somewhat similar to TC 2 in my opinion. TC 1 seems to do very little, only seemed to do anything when I was feathering the throttle a little too aggressively, just lead-footing through bends it doesn't turn on at all and you spin. I might start embracing it, especially when consistent speed is key to online racing, and with a DS4 it's hard to hit 10 straight laps at full speed without having some stupid countersteer booboo.

The GT3 cars have a TC quite like GT Sport, has it is adjusted by the driver. A professional driver (Platinum/Gold rated) once explained that, for the car we was at the moment we spoke driving, we would start a run setting it for 0 or 1, depending on track conditions, and would increase it as tires would wear out, being the TC considerably intrusive on worn tires. As he usually partnered not so pro drivers, they usually set TC far more intrusive than pros. It would make them slower, but this less experienced and less fit driver needed to be more consistent even if it meant slower lap times.

Pretty much yes.But how and why they use TC,depends not only by what a driver (pro or not) like to use but also by car/track/conditions -just some examples-.

I also thought about the assists in ranked races yesterday:
How about this: The higher your bracket, the less should be allowed. Maybe even ABS and TC get turned off at A - S Ranks if in reality cars wouldnt have it. Or A + S Setups are allowed? (I am not good in doing setups ;))
I also see a lot of videos on Youtube where people are very fast but use 3th person view and all kinds of assists like the green arrows and kones and AWD Cars to prevent spinning and being able to knock people from their lines without fear... I wish these kind of assists were disabled at my B bracket. Well it is still a Test Season and hope dies last :).
In my opinion to know the Tracks is also a Skill and should be honored with better results compared to people who dont know where the track goes next and just follow a drawn line on the track. Or maybe the less Assist are active the more points you get?
Something like that would be cool. I also drive with ABS Standard and TC 0-2. Just because in my opinion what happens after losing grip at the backend is nowhere near reality at the moment. No real car i drove was this unpredictable like cars in GTS.

In some forms of real world motorsports including the highest level premier classes Traction Control has evolved to where it is not only allowed but GPS based where the amount applied varies with each individual corner of a course.

It has gotten to the point on a race team one of the highest paid and most important positions on a race team is the guy with the lap top that interprets what the vehicle is doing from the cars on board data from its different sensors and programs the cars computer to add a bit of this here and take away a bit of this there to improve the lap times, reduce the tire spin and maximize the fuel usage.

ABS and Traction Control are basically about as standard as a gas and brake pedal in most modern vehicles in the real world and as such in my opinion should not be frowned upon for their use withing a driving games environment.

That is what I was afraid of

No. Because the triangle things that show you the correct driving line is on.

The blue things for turn in point, apex and exit point? They are selectable options on all levels.

It does not matter for me if it is part of a difficulty level. It matters, should it be allowed in competitiv driving? Are we playing need for speed fantasy games or a simulation? That is the question for me.
In Lobbys it can be set up maybe or not i dont know but in competitiv races in my opinion it should be restricted to real assists. It even tells you when to brake and when to steer and where the apex is and so on. There are assists like autopilot. Never tried it so dont know how much it helps myself. Someone told me however, you basically can not get out of track anymore even if completely hands off the wheel.

I agree 100% with this mate.
