So I got a hold of this baby a few days ago, and took it for a spin around Daytona Road.
First thing you notice, before you even enter the track, is the usually extra-detailed description Ravenmaven provides with the tune. You can learn a lot just by reading the description. 👍
As for the tune, I have to admit that I was a little skeptical -- the gear ratio is quite insane, and the toe settings a bit more extreme than I usually see, but having driven Raven's tunes before, I've learned to trust the man.
Forgetting the numbers and taking it to the track, everything starts to make perfect sense. Turn 1, considered by many one of the trickiest of the game, is a breeze: the car behaves perfectly under braking, not a hint of over or understeering, which is really important here, because you'll be turning while braking.
The rest of the infield can be done quite easily, the tune is very forgiving, specially if you consider that you're driving a mid engine car.
The only part I found tricky is the bus stop. But I've had issues with the bus stop for a long time, so all I'm gonna say is this: considering the grip levels in a 550pp car, this is a superb job. My approach was to be a little more conservative in the first leg, since there's no scape area, I would only coast there, and be more aggressive in the second leg to get a good entry speed to the oval part. This car allows you to do that, as long as you don't screw up the entry points. Of course I did screw up from time to time, resulting in beautiful 4 wheel drifts, and even in these situations the car is quite easy to control.
To finish this review, there is one aspect that you can only fully appreciate in an online race: the
acceleration. The aforementioned "insane" gear ratios are fully justified by what happens when you exit curves, or just fly past other drives down the straights. Within 2 races I was running sub-2 minutes laps, best was 1'59.5, without draft. I'm sure 1'58's are possible with a little more practice.
All in all, another great job by Raven. 👍👍👍
