Ahhh.... well, Scooby Dooby d-o-o-o-o-o-oooo! :D

No, I use a controller. It might have felt floaty, but I always had confidence in the cars. I have found that Dirt 4 requires much more in the way of throttle modulation and trail braking than Dirt Rally did.

Excellent! Music to my ears. I shall very much look forward to my purchase. :)

OK, I've been playing for a couple of days and as of now it holds a spot similar to GRID: Autosport in my opinion of it; A good/great game I can not seem to find any enjoyment out of.

I've spent as much time swearing at the game as I have driving it seems, and while I'm good enough to be in the top 5 for everything, and so far top 3 for most of it as long as there's no shenanigans, I'm not enjoying it at all.

How is it a car going 20 mph and turning still slides straight into a ravine 50 yards away in game when my truck can do it far better in real life? How is it that upside of a tall mound in the road can send all 3000 pounds of a vehicle 10 feet in the air...with no other damage? Why doesn't the game have retirements for AI when I'm forced to depending on the situation? HOW THE **** CAN I BE GOING FASTER ON A HILLSIDE WITH ALL BRAKES ON FULL THAN WHEN I WAS LAUNCHED OFFTRACK BECAUSE I'M NOT PERFECT AND DON'T KNOW THE PERFECT LINE OF EVERY COURSE AND CAN'T DO IT CONSISTENTLY ANYWAY? Why is the 205 a tail-happy *****? Why is it no matter how fast I go there's always one guy faster at every event? Why is it whatever race I'm in for RX everyone in class is faster than the rest of the field, without fail, even if they screw up a lap? Why is the Mini a moody ****? Why did I buy this game if I knew it was along the same line as GA?

WHAT AM I MISSING?!?!

Edit: Welp, Because of being launched into the air by a curb, not only was I screwed out of second in a RX final, I was penalized 10 seconds because I cut a corner...I DIDN'T LAND UNTIL I WAS PAST THE APEX YOU ****WITS!!!

@BKGlover let me get one this straight, you are talking about Dirt4 and rallycross specifically, right?!

Note: Sincerely asking here since I don't have the game; but your complaints worry me, that's why i'm asking.

No. I'm talking about DiRT Rally. The older one.

And don't go by my word. I've proven to be a grade F idiot with no skill or mental capacity.

Oops sorry, my bad! I thought I was in the Dirt4 forum! Sorry again!

But let me tell you one interesting thing! Most of those issues you complained about, especially the car being so slippery/sliding, if i got you right, were fixed in Dirt4!
==> Guess what?!
People are complaining now more and more saying that "the game is feeling arcadish, lots of grip and the game is easy! Cars feel glued to the road! No more sliding and gliding".
I'm not defending Codemasters, but they said that the current modeling/realism in Dirt4 is much better than the one in Dirt Rally! I'm inclined to believe them!

In your case, I strongly recommend you go buy Dirt4 and see if that suit your thoughts/opinions better!

It's all tied in here. Go back a few pages and you'll find DiRT 2, 1, and CMR threads.

I'll buy D4 when the price drops. I'm likely never buying a game within a year of release again.

Whoa dude, dem' some serious complaints!

IMHO, DR has some of the best rally driving physics I've come across; granted the tarmac driving can feel a wee bit disconnected, it's still a very minor gripe and in no way game breaking. As for non-tarmac driving, if that's where you're facing most of these issues, I'd recommend investing some time into tuning your car.

All in all, the driving is grade A in DR; in fact, as @Georgeagea just mentioned, D4 seems to have taken a less "simmy" direction. I'll have to give the game another shot as it's been a while but your concerns do seem quite legit.

It's mainly when you fall of the driving line that things start happening. It's a very good game, I can see that, but once you stop driving with absolute precision, the game throws a fit and sent me flying. I was cursing the hillclimb events the entire time I drove them, RX is ok but there's either rubberbanding or superman AI, and rallying was fine until I made a small mistake, and because I'm not in the spot the game demanded I be in I'm either in mid-air heading for trees, rocks, a sign in Finland, or a divot that'll keep me bouncing like a golfball.

Also as I've said before, It's probably me because I am the worst person in the world at everything. I've screwed up breakfast cereal before, so it's no surprise I'd be too dense to comprehend DiRT Rally's sim-focus in the same way I couldn't follow GRID Autosport, almost exactly. That's why at the bottom of the post I ask what am I missing, because I'm too stupid to see it myself and all problems I have are usually just me.

Oh I see what the problem is;

1. Perhaps DR is too sim for your tastes - try something a little casual, like D4 with its simplified driving model or D3 (a classic IMP).
2. Give the game lots of time and patience. Getting good at these sims is like getting good at rally or tarmac driving IRL - you have to put in several hours and long weekends learning the limits of the car as well as the track layout.
3. Again, don't give up - it will take an extraordinary amount of patience but the payoff is huge. Enjoy Dirt Rally!

Are you using a wheel if I may ask? I just use a standard controller, and the handling is superb IMO.

Controller. I haven't the money, space, or will to have a wheel rig.

Hey, same here! As much as I'd love to invest in a good wheel, I just don't have the motivation to alter my current gaming space to make room for a wheel. A controller is just super-convenient and all racing games I play on it handle exceptionally well.

I started this game today, and I really like it. I've done one full Rally Championship with the Mini and started a second with the 60s Lancia.

I agree about this quote; I've also noticed that if you make a slip the game isn't very forgiving. It's not terrible, but it does keep you on your toes. I've found myself driving a little slower so I don't risk pushing the limits into a catastrophe.

I have too, but then when I do drive slower I end up 30+ seconds behind the leader, sometimes more, and then I'm back on the attack because I don't intend to lose to the computer, then I fall off line and end up in a ravine half a mile downhill.

I'm way off the AI pace too. I finished 4th in the overall standings first time around with the Mini, but career mode has been fun building up my team. I had one unrecoverable outing with the Fulvia at Monaco. Maybe by the time I run through the stages a couple dozen times I'll get them memorized and beat the computer. And by the time I've tried all the cars and won the game I'll move on to D4.

Made it to the Elite Championship today.

What I love about this game is that it allows you to participate in the upper Championship levels with any unlocked car class, so if I want to run the Elite Championship with the Mini I can. I don't have a sequential stick shifter (only H-pattern) on the G29 so I don't see myself using the sequential-only cars in the game.

I'm unlocking each car class in chronological order and completing a Championship in each one. Currently in the 70s Class and will begin the Elite Championship with the Ford.

Another update.

Made it to the Masters Championship after winning the Elite in the Ford Escort Mk II. Now trying out the Masters in the Stratos before heading to the 80s and Group B cars. If I ever win the Masters (in 7th place after 2 events) the custom Championships look good, especially the one that randomizes the stages.

I really can't say enough how much I'm really enjoying this game. The menus, driving, cars, sounds, music, user options, graphics, details, and tracks are all fantastic. Difficult to believe this title is from the same developer that made 'DiRT Showdown'. Can't find anything I don't like about it.

There's a theory that because Dirt 3 was so polarising, Codemasters made Dirt Showdown and Dirt Rally as a means of judging public interest in the individual game modes and using the response to make Dirt 4.

I understand it completely, and other people's opinion on it, but I still believe DiRT 2 has the best atmosphere of the series...up to DiRT Rally anyway. I have my issues with Rally, but it is a solid game overall.

Ran a full Masters Tournament with the Stratos. Finished 6th or 7th (can't remember) but it doesn't really matter since I didn't place top three.

Started a second tournament with the BMW and the first event was Monaco. Brutal selection of stages let me tell you. Half were Col de Turini in the snow, night, or mist (or all the above). To cap it off, I was laboring in 8th place in overall event standings and during the 11th stage hit a rock exiting a hairpin, blasted through a guardrail and plunged a thousand feet to certain hospitalization and likely death.

So far it seems the events conditions for the Masters are more difficult with the BMW than the Stratos. Does the game dish out more challenging stages the faster the car? Or is it completely random; can you expect the same difficulty of stages in the Mini vs a Group B car?

Yeah, I did a Masters in the Mini a while ago and pretty much all Sweden stages were at night in snowstorms.

They're not kidding when they say "make it to the Masters Tournament and then wish you didn't".

I remember going through the early tournaments thinking 'where's the rain, snow, and night?' Shouldn't have asked. And while you're at it, how about some stages that are twice as long?

Not complaining, I love this game no matter how strenuous and demanding.

I played a TON of WRC3 on the PS2.

Now I'm playing Dirt Rally.

Anyone who has played both these games will be able to imagine the horror that came unto me when the pace notes read "1 right", to which I responded with the assumption it was a flat-out corner...like it is in WRC 3...

It is very unforgiving, and very difficult with a controller, but I'm liking it!

Started playing this game again after a few months and the AI is even more brutal than what I could remember. So damn fast, especially in rallycross. They're also not afraid of ramming into your car. Guess the AI opponents are programmed to follow one line and if you're there, then sorry, too bad for you.

Possiably, but its worth keeping in mind that Rally cross is one of the few forms of motorsport in which deliberate contact is allowed.
