Disappointed in GT4?

Is anyone disappointed in GT4? Even a little? I had a real hard time getting into it. I played the crap out of GT3 and loved it. I liked it’s linier style. I liked the handling. You could jump in your favorite car and run nearly half of the races with it. But above all I liked the prize cars. Who can ever forget the day they won their Toyota GTOne? The best thing was that prize cars you won earlier on were of use in later races. You could also use a car for running many races. GT4 seems to have a lot of disposable cars that are good for one maybe two races then that’s it.

The prize cars in GT4 frankly suck. For example; you run an exhausting series in the 1000K! Series in the European hall to win, what? A 60’ Alfa-frickin-Romero? Give me a brake! And the 1800’s cars? The Nike? I find these and the older cars serve to only clutter the game.

I have come to like GT4 in spite of all this though. I think I'll love GT3 more no matter what though. I just hope GT5 is scaled back a bit and improvements are put in other places. How about a GT motorcycle hall?

Not me.

Agreed.

1. It's "break". 2. Use B-spec

And the 1800’s cars?
Dude, that's automobile history. And it belongs in GT4 as much as a Skyline belongs in a tuner game.

The Nike?
I like it. 8 gears are fun. :)

Older cars=auto history. Nike 2022=Advertising.

No way. 👎 👎

Polyphony Digital has done a great job with GT4. Course they don't have the Mazda 323 DX 1.67... soo i don't know about 100% great haha.

This game is really good and I'm not really disappointed with it and I lovvvvvvve playing. Each day I play almost 2-3 hours of it.(This could be little compare to others, but this is enough for me everyday) 👍

Are you sure that the AI's are extremely cruel, because I thought that they were only DUMB. :)
Atrocious also means exceptionally bad. :sly:

The least they could have done was put in some sort of collision avoidance.

In the official website, they that the AI's were something like: "fantasically advanced and lifelike AI, with real-time reactions to your maneuvers and course behaviours modeled after actual professional racers, the challenge is more genuine than ever.

But actually, it is something more like this: "fantasically stupid and non-lifelike AI, with no reaction to your maneuvers and course behaviours modeled after dumb blind noob drivers, the challenge is less genuine than ever. 👍 👍 👍
This is much more better :)

GT4 forces you to use more cars than GT3. This is good. GT3 got really boring, easy, and repetitive after winning a few select cars that could win all the remaining races. This coupled with the fact that there are a bajillion tracks, including many more real ones, keeps GT4 fresh. I got sick of Apricot Hill in GT3; I barely saw it in GT4. The missions were an excellent added challenge as well. I will say that the menus were better in GT3; much more straight forward, especially since the races were all in one place. The GT4 menu just seems to be thrown all over the place, though the countries do correspond to the correct relative positions on the globe, which is kind of neat. GT4 = excellent and worth the wait.

I LOVE GT4. Wow, that looked like it was in all caps...only love was supposed to be, the rest is just...nevermind. Anyway, GT3 was actually the most disappointing GT game to me. The graphics were great, and the physics were a lot better, but overall it just felt so tiny compared to the previous games. GT4 has better physics, amazing graphics, tons more cars than any previous GT, and tons more tracks, not to mention photo mode, which I never thought would be so addicting, and all kinds of other great features. I love the game, and although it's not perfect it's still amazing.

Horses for course I guess, I LOVED the first two, GT1 was ground-breaking, GT2 was and still is, the pinicale of the GT series, but I actually found GT3 to be a big dissapointment, it was like GT lite, and needless to say got bored of it very quickly.

I think GT4 is the second best in the series, and to be honest how on earth anyone can be dissapointed with 720+ cars and the best rendition of the Nurburgring on ANY game on ANY system is frankly beyond me, so the AI sucks, so do most/all other race sims (believe me I have played most of them), but GT has IMHO never been about "racing" per say, its a driving sim....

if the only thing you can whine about is a dozen cars you dont think belong ere, then try looking at the other 700 odd....

if you dont like the game, dont play it.... its that simple

When I first started playing it, it lost the fun a bit for me. I play games because they are fun, and GT4 seemed like hard work at first. I do enough of that sort of thing during the day.

I left it for a month and came back, and like a venereal rash, GT4 grows on you. I love it now, the tyre wear in every race and the twitchier handling are now things I like.

Although, without making this thread go on about the AI, I'm sure there is one already (there should be); if these were modelled on real drivers, well I reckon they'd be the type who need help to get dressed in the morning and stick their tongue out to colour in inside the lines.

yeah... i guess both sides of the arguments can be seen... I like gt4 and gt3 both the same.. GT4 is a bit more confusing with the map thingo.. but i guess they tried to jazz it up!! and its ok! New tracks were cool as well such as the ring!! i love it...

There is only a few disappointments i could make about gt3 and 4... the music... im sorry but i dont like any of it.. they dont pick good songs.. thats my opinion!! :P

As for cars.. i dunno if anyone can answer this for me but, why arent lambos or ferrari included in the gt series????

I'm a newcomer to the game, but I love it. Tried GT3 again the other night for comparison and there was less feel for the car you're driving.

GT Motorcycles? I don't know. It would be nice to have one in maybe, but I'd hate them to try it, it be completely unrealistic and completing the game be reliant on it.

The problem with bike sims are that they're too hard / unrealistic. IRL you get a lot of info about what's going on through the bars, the seat, the feel of the bike and you use a lot more than just the bars to control the machine (your weight, and how you balance yourself on the bike). That doesn't translate easily to a DS2.

If they included it, they'd have to have countersteering, or it would just be another arcade racer. Again, how do you do that on a DS2?

I hope I didn’t give the impression that I was whining because I’m not. Please don’t get all offended either. It’s not like I’m calling your sister a slut of anything. I think discussing critical issues is a lot more beneficial than slobbering all over a game and worshipping at it’s feet as if it’s without fault.

And like I said I LIKE GT4. I just think they made a huge mistake with some of the prize cars they picked. If they want to put 10,000 classics in there, hey, go for it. Maybe just make them available to buy rather than to win. Let’s face it, no one got excited when they won that Volvo station wagon and no body straps into their Daimler 1886 carriage and go for a 10 minute spin around Midfield.

I agree with some points about rubbish prize cars for tough races, but at least they even it out with excellent prize cars for the easy races like El Capitan 300!

Thats Fanboys for you. GT4 is a good game. But their is plenty of room for improvement.

Unfortunately, GT4 doesn't have the magic GT3 and GT2 had.

You're right. Here is a list of things that I don't appreciate in GT4:

- No qualifying sessions for 75% of the races. Plain stupid.
- AI sucks. PD should look at hold games like EA Sports F1 to realize that they did a crappy job.
- You have no idea before you start a race what kind of competition you will get until you see that the race will be a 8 pts race. Great.
- You can't put full body kits like in GT1/2.
- The game overall is way too easy.
- I would like to have a Notepad where I can take notes like lap times, etc.

P.S. can't wait to see GT5 with 16 + cars on the track.

Completely agree with it all, especially the A.I. and Qualifying.

As for the notepad, pen and paper dude! :)

I was a little dissapointed with GT4, but I never set my expectation much higher than it's GT3 with more cars and tracks. The older cars are great, exept for the carriages I don't see much point in them.

voila, that's what i think too. Great overview you gave here.
The Nurburgring alone can keep me playing for hours.

"No qualifying sessions for 75% of the races. Plain stupid."

This is probably the absolute WORSTE thing about the game. I simply can not fathom why they would not have qualifying? It totally removes competitiveness as well as realism.

I have too agree on a couple of points here. I too loved the "racing car modifications". It's not like you put on bodykits, it was like the ultimate change yr road racer into a real race car. That was just awesome and opened different perspectives on some cars.

A notepad is quite an interesting idea... Hmm.

And the points should indeed already be showed to you in the race hall or something. Good thinking there mate. 💡
