Hey everyone. Before I make my race report, I have made my own rules and classes in GT4 and the racing cars to make GT4 more realistic and competitive. Take a look, you may find this interesting as much as I do.
Grand Touring Classes:
GT1-
Dodge Viper Team Oreca
Chevrolet Corvette C5R
Chevrolet Camaro LM Racecar
Ford GT LM Spec I & II
Honda NSX-R LM (Tuned to 650hp)
Nissan Skyline GT-R LM Concept
Pagani Zonda LM
Nissan 350Z LM (Tuned To 626hp)
BMW M3 GTR (Tuned To 644hp)
GT2-
Honda S2000 LM (Tuned to 583hp + Set ballast)
Mitsubishi FTO LM (Tuned to 580hp + Set ballast)
Mazda RX8 LM
Mazda RX7 LM
Toyota Altezza LM Touring (Tuned to 560hp + Set ballast)
This is kind of like the FIA GT. But I have set the rules.
GT1 Class Rules - 640hp-649hp and less than 1149kg add 1kg of ballast per hp more. 650-700hp and 1150kg and under add 1kg of ballast per hp more.
GT2 Class Rules - 530hp-549hp and less than 1090kg make the weight to 1100kg and then add 1kg of ballast per hp more. 550hp-590hp and less than 1050kg-1089kg add 1kg of ballast per hp more.
Now onto the race report.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I got the invitation from the GT4MSA (GT4 Motorsports Association) to compete in the series in the GT2 class race.
So I jumped to the chance and emailed them back the invite and the acceptance of their invite. About 3 weeks later the GT4MSA stewards flew to Fuji Speedway (2005 GT) and entered the paddock where I was testing my newly aquired Mazda RX8 LM. 533hp and 1100kg. They seen the numbers and said thats the perfect candidate for the Season opener GT2 race at California's own Grand Valley Speedway. So I later that night told my wife the good news. It was 11:30pm and I was so excited that I couldn't sleep. So on came 12:15am and I finally got some sleep. The alarm rings an extremly loud noise and I look at the time and its 6:15am, so I wake up my lovely wife and told her to start packing. I see my DLR team with the transport vehicle with my RX8 LM in the back and the motorhomes behind. So we set off from Toronto Ontario, Canada for a 2day drive to California. The days passed and we finally entered the track. We set up shop there and noticed testing were the 5 competitors we were going to face.
They Were:
1. Mazda RX7 LM (GT2 Class)
2. Loctite Mugen NSX JGTC (GT2 Class)
3. Ford Falcon XR8 (Touring-1 Class)
4. Opel Calibra Touring Car (Touring-1 Class)
5. Alfa Romeo 155 Touring Car (Touring-1 Class)
So the crew and I started to work on the RX8 for this testing session. We set up the car, suspension, transmission, tire choice, LSD and Downforce. We ran the fastest time on that session with hard compound tires a 1.48.694.
The evening before the race we went to a restaurant and ate some food and talked about strategy and such and what our approach is going to be. So we headed off to the separate motorhomes and slept till 7:30am. We ran some warmup laps with hard compound tires and ran a best time of 1.50.331 in the morning. The race is going to start at 10:00am so we had some time to kill by doing some minor modifications to the LSD.
The Grid
We did the formation lap.
Lap 1
And from the start to the 10th lap it was a big battle with my RX8 and taking the lead up from lap 5-10 before I pit and lost 1st place to the RX7.
Lap 2
Lap 3
Lap 4
Although I was trying to be conservative. I finally got the word from the crew to kick it up a notch or two. So pushing the heck out of the RX8 I made up some ground from a 15second deficite to a 5second deficite until he pit on the 15th lap. So I manage to pass him while he was in the pits with the last 3 laps bein a 1.52.xxx, 1.51.xxx and a blistering 1.49.xxx and then as I was infront I encountered traffic on the 18th lap. It was the Alfa, he wasn't a problem so I went around him. Lap 20 I pit and every 10th lap afterwards. I was still in 1st place when I came out and pushed to have a 35 second lead and then Steady pace, kept 1st place at a 40 second lead and pushed whenever I had to. But for the rest of the race I was doing constant low 1.52.xxx.
Finally crossed the line on Lap 60 with fire red front tires that started to understeer due to the wear. So I stood on the podium with the other 2 finishers and did the usual national anthem routine and champagne spray.
