Just wondering how many people do, with Gungnam style reaching 1 B views

Be Honest

Maybe you just listen to it because your friends listen to it? Or did you USE to listen to bad music and now your taste has matured and you dont anymore?

I don't really get why I like dubstep. All it is, is noise. If you listen carefully to what it actually is you'll find yourself sitting there thinking???!!?!

This is what happened to me. Used to listen to crap music (in my opinion) until some of my friends introduced me to rock and metal.

But isn't this whole topic kinda subjective, good music and bad music completely depends on your own opinion. Sure, there are critics who definitely know what they're talking about, but what you like completely depends on your opinion.

Remember that "bad" music is your definition of bad music and that definition will differ from person to person. Just because you don't like it, doesn't make it bad.

Furthermore one's definition of bad may change over time. For instance I now have (and enjoy listening to) a couple tracks that I didn't much care for when the songs were first released. On the other hand there's the occasional album track that I never much cared for and still don't.

I dont see this issue as grey

Yes. Yes I do.

I love gangnam style haha the song is a pisstake so people should lighten up and see it as that!!

I also love Nu Metal which seems to be universally hated

This one as well.

Gangnam Style became so popular because it was so easy to approach; there honestly isn't anything complicated about it. It's actually pretty good to have it sink to every corridor of the world.

Gangnam isn't actually, well... bad... just over-exposed. I mean, it's nowhere near as bad as "Call Me Maybe", or even "Rico Suave".

It's got a nice hook, but it's not very good. The problem is beyond the single hook on the chorus, there aren't any inspired lyrics to back it up, as on similar joke-y songs like Jill Sobule's "I Kissed a Girl" (though "Bitter" was her better radio single)... which is why a lot of people hate it. You can only get so far with a single good line.

I dont care for Gangnam Style. But i did contribute a view when i clicked on the video. A billion views is bound to happen to any video when its spoken about on every media outlet known to man.

But musical taste is unique to each person. Just because someone thinks one song sucks doesn't mean everyone else in the world agrees... there will always be at least one who genuinely likes that one loathed song.

I love music that other people consider to be 'bad'.

I genuinely, and without a hint of sarcasm, love this.

And this.

I'm a big fan of the Goldie Lookin Chain.. do I like bad music?

Listen to 'Your mothers got a penis' or 'Half Man Half Machine' and make up your own mind!

You knows it.

I like it as well, along with House, but I only listen to it casually. I don't really know much of the artists I listen to but it's interesting to have on the background on low volume in your earbuds. Yet whenever someone asks me "Hey what're you listening to?" and I let them hear it they're like " What the hell is that?!"

So I guess I like what some others consider "bad" music? It's a vague question because some people might hate rock (metal, rap, etc.), so I listen to "bad" music to them?

Bad music is based on opinion and not fact. That said there is no such that as bad music. However, there is music that I find that does not submit to my tastes, therefore I think it's bad. Hwoever, someone else may like it and think the music I listen to is bad.

That said, if it doesn't appeal to me, then I won't listen to it. But at the same time, I listen to bad music if someone else tastes don't appeal to what I listen to.

So yes and no.

But what about music trhat is of bad musical quality? Poorly played instruments etc.

Some people might actually like poor instrumental skills...

What I mean is that you can say that music is objectively bad or good, from a musical standpoint. So it all really depends on what you mean by good or bad.

Most people mean what music they like, which can be bad sometimes. Like saying a group of amazing musicians are bad when really meaning they don't like them. I personally don't like using the word in that sense.

I think it's better to say that you like/don't like the music instead.

Yes, you got that point.

Just because I may not prefer a certain type of music or a certain song does not mean it's "bad music". Bad music had bad rythm, poor lyrics, poor vocals, etc

Music with poorly played instruments, off-key vocals and such is still bad music now matter what tone deaf person may like it. If a half blind man says he likes how a terrible painting looks should we agree with him? If not, why should we agree with tone deaf people in their liking of bad music? Maybe someone likes hearing bad music because it reminds them of all the chaos in their life? Should we say its a good song then? No.

Heres a funny example of a tone deaf person liking "bad music"

And this.

She repeats the chorus line 50+ times in that song. No more evidence needed to prove that money doesn't buy talent. If we followed Earth's criteria of poor rhythm, lyrics, & vocals, this is a perfect example of bad music, of which I agree.

Just because it doesn't mesh the way you think it should doesn't mean it's "bad" music. Someone may like it. If it doesn't fit your criteria or appeal to you it still doesn't mean it's bad, that's just what we refer to it as if for some reason it doesn't appeal to us.

This type of thinking doesn't apply to every song like you think it does. If your chorus only consists of 1 line, & then gets repeated 16 times in 3 different points in a 3 minute-long song, that is not musical talent. Any idiot can write "music" like that by repeating 1 line throughout a song as long as you have a beat. But, even with such a simplistic line, some critics still said her vocals were still heavily tuned.

Willow Smith's singing "career" is only out there because her parents (father really) are high profile celebrities & in today's society, the celebrity kids try to follow in their parent's footsteps. I'm more amazed this is one of Jay-Z's proteges, but then again, he compared her to Stevie Wonder & Jackson just because she was young.
