Do you like your country?

I've spent quite a bit of time traveling around the globe, and I didn't say it's isolated to the US.

Oh, because I thought you biggest issue was Americans, because they do the same things people all over the world do.

My bad.

Guess you were wrong, this is why we don't assume.

Oh, I didn't assume anything. I simply read what you wrote.

There are quite a few things that I don't like though, mostly Americans. I think many of us are stupid and misguided. I think we are rather full of ourselves, loud, arrogant, brash and have an overstate sense of patriotism. I think we are entertained by odd things and aren't all that cultured. I think we are too polarized with our political beliefs and practice a sense of extremism when it comes to it.

No where did I mention any other country or any other country's intelligence, there was no comparison. So no, you did not simply read what I wrote. So can we move on now or are you going to misread more of my posts?

You go on about how your biggest issue with the country are the citizens, and yet you seem to think elsewhere you'd find refuge from it.

I have no idea how you got that out of what I said, since you know, I never said anything dealing with that. Done with the assumptions?

I must add that Vancouver during the Olympics was amazing. They gave out so many free coca-cola bottles it was awesome! Still, I miss being able to go into the country that's right outside the city. Europe is different in that matter, I mean here it's just not the same.

@ all the comments above saying I don't like it here, it's not true. This place is very nice, and yes it is better than many places on earth but you can't go on a fun diverse road trip like you can in Europe or the US can you? I mean if you take nature out of the picture, Vancouver is one of the best (or is the best) city in the world.

I disagree with a lot of Canadian politics, but I can't complain, it's a great country. I live in Southern Ontario, on the coast of Lake Erie. It's great, the summers are hot (30+ C), and the winters aren't that cold. I like snow anyway, so winter doesn't bother me much. The roads are good, the people are friendly, the currency is pretty stable, the cities are very safe, the NHL is awesome, the CFL is entertaining, my school is good, university isn't insanely expensive, I have it pretty good here.

Love living here in the US, however, I'm really not fond of where I live right now in Georgia. My neighborhood sits right off next to a street that has endless traffic 24/7 due to the fact it's connected to an interstate, so very little peace. Not to mention the other end of the street is a lot nicer than the side I'm living on, not that I'm complaining.

I'm definitely going to consider moving to a more quiet area when I get older.

Australia is awesome. Though there are a few things which I hate;

The heat, the flies, the dangerous snakes, spiders, jellyfish & sharks, the taxes, the obsession of speed cameras, the PM's, the bogans, our accents, and our natural 'dead' looking vegetation.

The things I like: Our beaches, the friendly people, our moderate cleanliness, our winter/spring weather, our sea-bound borders, our fuzzy animals, and our low population-to-land ratio. 👍

No, hence why I'm moving to SoCal within 2 months if everything goes according the plan.

I find that living in America is alright, I can't say I'm disappointed nor happy with it, but nothing's happening to me so I can't complain.

Oh my. I honestly feel you haven't spent enough time travelling then. Dumb people are everywhere. It isn't just the US.
I agree there are dumb people everywhere, just most of then live in Toronto :) hehehe I'm kidding.

You can't go for a fun diverse road trip? Ever driven very far in this country or even the city???

I can start from my home and head to Vancouver passing through Italian districts, Indian reserves, East Indian communities, Chinatown, and Japanese markets.

Or if you'd like to go cross country you'll pass through just about every imaginable climate there is and besides Saskatchewan and Manitoba no two provinces are remotely similar and even those two are massively different.

This thread actually got me thinking a lot. I watched the gold medal hockey game again today :) I still was excited when Crosby scored... Hehehe.

One big gripe I have with Canadians though is that they are not patriotic enough, that is one thing I think the US is far superior in is patriotism. You can't turn around anywhere in the states without seeing a flag and to a lot of Americans nothing will ever be better than their country and sometimes I wish more Canadians thought that way.

When I moved away from England it wasn't because I didn't like it, it was down to the simple fact that you can have a good, if not better, life somewhere else for less money. I was being crippled by taxes and congestion charges so it made perfect sense to move somewhere where taxes were lower, the streets cleaner and safer and the schools less expensive. I don't hate it, but I wouldn't go back now.

As a nation, I love the United States. Freedom, health care, education, etc. The weather is nice and varied, the air is clean (for the most part), there are many opportunities, and so on.

I loathe 99% of the people in it, who are extremely selfish, rude, and ignorant (although that's probably true of the whole world these days...), and I ESPECIALLY loathe the government, which is currently putting the country on a fast track to ruin and doesn't care about anything but their paycheck. Who cares about the people? They sure don't. (But again, that's probably true with most of the world nowadays, but I think it's particularly appalling here at the moment.)

Canada is pretty damn good compared to other places, man.

It's the only place in the Americas I would consider living in at this point in my life. I looked at the US before I came to China but my own friends (US guys) told me I'd be better off in Canada. I can't see myself living outside of Asia or at least the EU in the next 10 years.

I have no experience in either country and would like to visit both.

Denmark is a haven of income equality, safe streets, 1930s brick villas in the omnipresent suburbs and (best part) political incorrectness.

Sounds jolly good, right? Unfortunately, there's nothing new and exciting here. Diversity, you say? Hah! Apart from the huge refugee-ghettos, I can't think of much. Our nature? Well, think of a very flat meadow the size of a small country, and you're about there. So, my relationship to my country is, well, meh...
Denmark is a model society, but the spark that makes it special to live in is just not there.

The vehicle registration tax is almost 200% here, by light-years the highest in the Union. Which is why a Ferrari California trades at $700.000 and everyone buzzes about in 3-cylinder superminis.

Compared to the rest of the EU

As our queen always says in her new-year's speech: God save Denmark.

In my country all the politicians are useless corrupt idiots that should be replaced. All of them. The people around where I live are greedy, and everything is expensive if you don't do a lot of searching around.

Though with that being said it's not that bad. The cities aren't big, but you can reach any of them in less than a day. There's s little bit of the alps on the north and a little puny puddle we call a sea on the south. But hey, it's enough to go skiing in the winter and it's enough to go swimming in the summer. While the people around where I am are greedy it's not like this all across the country.
So there's pluses and minuses, but overall I like it.

On the whole, yes. We enjoy one of the highest living standards in the world and a very varying climate.

On the downside is amongst other things, an obsession with political correctness and moral panic.

Finland is a great country, but you can't modify your car enough here. :( For example, in Sweden (as far as I know) you can do almost anything to your car, and it's legal. :D
Here's one Volvo from Sweden: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuH7F0KVAxo

1/4 mile under 10sec.

Actually it's not allowed to increase power by more than 10% according to law. Many simply change the engine to a stock one before MOT's, so it can be a hassle.

But of course if you have a stock looking car that doesn't raise suspicion you probably won't have to worry.

Being an American has it's perks....but with the political garbage that lowered our nations credit rating, it shows we are the Divided States Of America. So I chose 'No.'

I love my country:) Think the norwegian government do a good job and atleast we have free healthcare :sly:
Some things could have bin better though like overall prices and the roads and railways needs billon dollar maintenace.

One thing I like the most is that the nature is so diverse, you can swim in the ocean with warm weather in summer and with a small trip in a car you can go downhill skiing in the mountains

I like my country. The people are a lot less materialistic than people from other countries in my opinion. I dislike the people in power though. The way I look at it though, I'm not under dictatorship, I'm given a set of human rights, ample opportunities if I work towards them... If I said that I hate my country after seeing how lucky that I am, then I could never forgive myself. The weather does suck though.

I don't know...

I mean, we have good healthcare, infrastructure etc.

BUT

We have Justin Bieber, Celine Dion etc.

Which means we'll always be a laughing stock.

Still undecided. I'll vote yes for my safety.

GO CANADA!! WOOT! 👍

Our great white north might not be perfect, but the pros far and away outweigh the cons, so no complaints here! I love my country - it's been good to me.:)

I chose no.

Our country is run by a bunch of softies, and if we get a tough politician, it's an idiot. Crime numbers are rising. People talk less and less with each other. People like me can't find a job, and don't get welfair, because there are just too much retards refusing to work, and act like they are sick.
Our governement think they can still save Africa with sending piles and piles of money.

And the immigration policy is failing too, and if you say something like this^^ , you will be labeled as a rightwing extremist.
