Do you think PD expected drifting to be as popular as it is?

Is drifting really any more popular in GT5 than it was in 4 or 3? (Well...uh, 3 :P)

I'm not really sure what this thread is getting at. I'm sure PD knows that people drift, and they've given us plenty to play with. My only complaint is that we get D1 and FD cars but not a single dedicated drifting track. I'd pay good money for Ebisu Circuit. A pack with it, Sekia Hills and something else...maybe the Odaiba course would be amazing.

^^^ And Meihan and a touge thrown in for good measure :D

In answer to the OP, drifting as a single motorsport class is probably the most popular room type on online I'd say. Now this may be a bit biased as I'm only really looking for drift rooms, but there seems to be equal numbers of drift rooms to all other racing series (Super GT, NASCAR, DTM etc.) combined. Yet we have many tracks and cars to go with those motorsports but not a lot for drifting.

However, this does seem to be a recurring theme in GT5. For example, we have 2 (3 including the FGT) Formula 1 cars yet we have 6/7 tracks that are used in F1. Contrast that with Super GT and you only have 2 tracks but 30+ (?) different cars. DTM has 1 track but maybe 15 cars. Top Gear Test Track and no Reasonably Priced Cars nor top 10 Power Lap cars.

So drifting definately is under catered for, but it is consistant with PD's inconsistancy.

WE NEED CUSTOM CAR LIVERIES!!!!
+.. did you ever see rfactor central. There should be map packs and car packs like call of duty! I know it can and should be done!

Before anyone outside of Japan had even heard of Keiichi Tsuchiya, Ps had implemented drifting. It's always been a peripheral activity, it's just that there are more and more peripheral (NASCAR/WRC) activities so it gets lost amongst them. I see the lack of MP drift options as another manifestation of the issues with MP, not drifting itself.

It would probably have worked best if they had made one of the Special events a challenge where the AI does a preset drift and you have to tandem with it where by you fail if there is any contact, that would negate having to actually have any drift capable AI as it could effectively just be a replay with you on the track with it.
That would have been an awesome idea. Tandem drift school :D Have a LOAD of runs pre-programmed for the AI (selected at random beforeyou start, like the AI when you'reracing) to perform and you have to match him. We'd end up with far less crashing during online tandems :)

If a patch added in Multiplayer full lap/sector drift modes... where you could compete against others in the server... I would play gt5 so much more. :scared:
Agreed, but they'd have to implement a better scoring system than GT5's current offering. Even the Forza points system would be prefereable because at least it rewards speed.

There is a stock RWD skyline at the dealership and also older RWD skylines in the UCD

He means R32/R33/R34, i.e. the ones with RB engines, not the V35 with it's cr*ppy Renault V6 non-turbo VQ35/37/38 rubbish ;)

I think he means the one that is also available as an infinity G35, which is a skyline and is available in the NCD ;)

It is called the 370 GT skyline and i drift one, with great success ;)

They still have the VQ engines, which are horrid. I want an R32 with a 600bhp RB26 (like my real comp car). Lighter chassis, more power, more torque, better handling etc etc etc. Also, there is a reason that no-one is succesfully campaigning a G35 in a RL world class drift series.....the handling sucks LOL

I have to agree with the Nascar comment where drifting is well known world wide as is nascar but atleast drifting is done in most countries i dont see race cars on oval tracks here in australia and pretty sure you dont in the uk.
If your not American who is actually going to sit there and watch a car go round in circles all day long.

I AM american and I can't watch that crap... unfortunately, they beat us over the head with it here in the states. we used to have this awesome channel on our cable called speedvision. It showed racing from all over the world. About 8 years ago, it began to transition into the "all Nascar channel" and that's all they show. The only way you can see other racing is if you stay up real late, or on weekday afternoons when most are at work.

I remember seeing rally and touring cars and ALMS and all sorts of awesome stuff on speedvision all the time back in the day ; ;

Now it entirely seems to be marketed towards rednecks. Constant Nascar, shows about people talking about Nascar, shows about jacking up pickup trucks :( It was the one channel that used to show a great variety of motorsports, I watched it a lot when I was able to growing up.

I think perhaps PD knew exactly what they were doing with the online functionality of drifting in the game. Computer points measured systems can provide skewed results. FM3 is a good example as it rewards speed and angle, but does not reward higher points for proper driving line (atleast from what I've seen from online points drifters). I say let the judges decide, as with any real competition. How each league structures their rule set and judges is for them to decide.

I hop from drift room to drift room looking for people who want to tandem. Mostly it's just people flying by doing their own thing, or people purposely interrupting drift sessions which is annoying. We can keep complaining or make the best of the current situation. I've been playing in the Evergreen Drift room if I see it open because it's a group of organized drifters. I'm not as good as they are, but the overall environment is drift friendly. Plus they kick AWD which is nice...

I hope that maybe in the future releases of GT they will add drifting to the A-Spec section of the game. If they only knew how many people are drifters in just this forum alone, it might get there attention either for future updates of GT5 or maybe even the next game release. I have only been drifting a short time and cant seem to get enough of it. Its very addictive. I'd rather drift than race now.

I agree! Im sad about the fact that GT online does not have ANY Drifts suport whatsoever... even single player.. So many Drift lobbies all over the web. and all they do is improvise.. we need to score points.. all who agree should go and vote in NEW GTP feedback. There are no votes for Drift support.

It strikes me that PD will never implement DRIFT in GT6,7,8,9 !!!! If they look in the online list of lobbies they would have seen that racing rooms VS drifting rooms are 50/50 of all amount. And IF they HAD any sources to improve the drift they would had done it already. Look buddies, THIS GAME WAS RELEASED WHEN IT WAS 50 -60% ready, terrible
Al behavor, + standard cars, + easy events, +++++++, and IF they really need to fix something in the game OUR lovely and adorable DRIFT will be the last what they would pay attention for. MY PSN ID is Olegonic, add me and meet in Drift lobby for tandem

Only drift is allowed in my lobby, tires comfort hard. No REDBULL. NO4WD. All assists OFF.
Drift or been KICKED
