Do you think PD is moving away from their classic awesome replays?

One thing I think GT has nailed over the years is the replay angles... very few games get anywhere near as good (I think collim mcrae rally on ps1 was the last game i thought got it so good).

It seems most games today use replay cameras as a music video style, quick cut, lots of closeups, speed and action style thing and not so much like you get in real racing where long pans and shots wide enough to see a lot of cars at once are the norm.

Maybe it's the track, but the replays I have been seeing lately from GT5 seem to be giving you far more zooms of your car going by and far less useable views that show the whole track, multiple cars and long shots. This makes me worried that they are going the way of everyone else and worrying more about showing how great the car looks close up than about letting you see a useful and exciting replay view.

I mean when you go into a set of turns in a pack of 4 or 5 cars, sometimes 2 or 3 wide, do you want to see a close up of your door panel, quick cut and then a zoom in of your tail end, or do you want to see a nice wide shot of all the cars gracefully swooping in and out of the corners?

I know which I like more...

I agree, its the best of any replays in the racing games I've played.

Far superior to Forza.

I hope they keep it and of course extend it to cover longer races.

The replays from the GT5 videos from Tokyo look almost identical to the GT4 replays (i OF COURSE mean the camera angles). I would like more wider shots though.

EDIT:

While those do look like very similar camera angles, I get the feeling on the long shots the GT4 camera is higher and thus gives you a better view, also it seems that GT5 gets a zoom in on your car a little more often.

Overall it's not as bad side by side as I had thought but all those little bits add up and make me feel like it's just more close up and almost claustrophobic watching the GT5 replays...

Maybe it's just not a good track to judge from though... I just remember the hours I spent watching replays in some games, GT being one in which almost 50% of the time you would find me watching the whole race replay...

I think they use lower camera angles so the sense of speed isnt lost. You do lose some of the good shots, as you mention, but the cars look faster. Which is better? For slow cars the low angles are probably better, but who watches replays of the slow cars?

Watch the replay of the HKS Evo from this forum that someone has posted. There is this one view that will make everything better. From 2:42-2:49, on ething that PD does far better then any other game is the ability to implement an incredible depth-of-field.

I agree with wanting more wide shots and static cameras. But, just like in GT3 and GT4, I want the MTV style calera set too. But obviously of better quality. Take the replays in DIRT 2 or GRID for example. I guess what I'm saying is that I'd like both...

I love the new in-board cams they added in the TGS build, where you can see the driver working. I missed them in Prologue, because there was this scene with that TVR in the second trailer from GT5P with the 900° steering animation, looked wicked.

I think it would be great if they could add both camera styles, traditional wide long shots and another dynamic camera for mtv style quick cut replays...

BTW I watch all kinds of replays, for me super cars are fun to watch, but the D class cars are great to watch if driven well too... there is something to be said about squeaking every last inch out of a D class clunker that is great to watch.

I think the only difference in GT4 to GT5 is the car model in replay, it's more bigger in GT5 because of it's poly count.

it deserves a bigger size 👍

great to see the quality change, the lighting makes so much difference

I notice from the video that there are very less advertisements of car brands, tyres, .. The crash barriers also do not have the advertisement banners compared to GT4. All i can see are GT, Polyphony digital, etc.. Is this because it is a demo? And at 0.33 and 1.01 on GT4, I think that is the porsche banner.. But I still love the image quality of GT5..

The reason might be that PD is still negotiating with companys. It's just like to advertise a job on newspaper...

I agree, replay angles are getting kind of sucky. I wish to watch my replays as though I was watching it on the tele, not to make it look Super ZOMGoodness Awesome Broo!

Remember you're watching a video of someone watching the replay - they could be holding the triangle button?

I'd love it too bur that banners represent cadillac's logo :(

As i said before and i guess many people said, why not have a helicopter cam for these races instead of a non visible cam in walls etc & animate camara people at different areas of the tracks ?.Could have different default tv style camara positions, for Le Sarthe etc. Also mentioned before a director mode maybe. Also with the usual basic functions of a track side camara. It's a tall order for 70 different tracks, i know that.
