Does the good in GT Sport outweigh the bad, or vice-versa?

  • Good outweighs bad.

  • Bad outweighs good.

  • It's 50/50.

  • The good doesn't justify the bad.

  • I don't like the game concept in general.

Does the good in GT Sport outweigh the bad, or vice-versa?
granturismosport.jpg
With GT Sport being out for quite a while, people had time to get a good grasp of the game, but it divides opinions, with some people liking certain aspects, and other people, others.

Some like the online focus, and to others, it's a deal breaker. Some like a shorter, more focused car list, others would like a broader choice, etc.

Also some of the game reviewers have gave Sport lower scores:

GT6 Meta score: 81 (8.1 user score)
GT Sport Meta score: 76 (6.1 user score)

GT6 IGN score: 8.0
GT Sport IGN score: 7.5
GT6 Gamespot score: 7.0
GT Sport Gamespot score: 8.0

What are, in your opinion, the strong and also the bad points in Sport?
What would you change?
And what score from 0-10 would you give?

The strong point is the overall quality and presentation. GT Sport feels like a good meeting spot for racing enthusiasts. It has strong sense of community and puts much of its focus on the interaction between real drivers. I think this is the way to go with a semi-simulation such as GT.

The weak points relates to quantity. There's a blatant lack of cars and tracks and little to no word about future content plans. Sport Mode could've been more extensive if it had more content to make use of. Sadly that's not the case.

I had to go 50/50. The visuals, racing, scapes, livery editor. Livery editor probably could use some more features to make it user friendly, but overall pretty good.

Obvious drawbacks, car list, track list, and a questionable Sport mode setup are all things that need work. I think as feedback is heard sport mode will be adjusted. Penalties will be more straightforward, the filtering system based on SR/DR will improve as players race more, and I believe more events will be added as time goes on, with more of variety and options between each.

I'm skeptical on the car and track list for the future. I'd like to say I believe we'll get lots of DLC and more tracks and cars through updates, but PD has never been one to churn out DLC like others in the genre. Time will tell. Nearly a month removed from the release and there's been very little word from PD. I'm expecting something before Christmas time, what that will be remains to be seen.

Don't forget the 2.5 stars overall its gets on Amazon UK & US. I gave it a 1 star review on Playstation, & on Amazon. So, out of 10 I guess my score would be a 2/10.

IMO, it's currently a 6/10 in it's current state.

Pros: Looks really nice, livery editor is easy to use, the SVG import is a really neat addition to it. Photo mode is brilliant, as always. Physics are nice, also the game got improved a lot in terms of sound.

Cons: The track list, and the car list. Most of that car list is filled with 2-3 variants of the same vehicle, and sadly it's a lot of VGTs.

Started off as 8/10.

But now it's feeling worse because the content is so limited and sport mode is starting to get repetitive with the same tracks over and over. We still have no info on DLC plans and the penalty system needs to be fixed.

I used to make between 5-10 sport mode races a day. I've done 1 in the last week and I rage quit due to the penalty system and stupid match making (you think you're racing against "S" SR people but that S is a complete lie).

Why are these two different options? Seems like they're both saying the same basic thing.

Those are not a contrast of each other.

You might think the good makes the bad irrelevant, or think the game is good BUT you might not be conformed with the negatives just because the game has some positives.

Also you can have more than 1 vote.

In it’s current state I too would give it a 6/10.

Pros:
-Great Visuals
-Finally a livery editor and it works quite well!
-Online Racing is fantastic
-Photo mode is cool (just not something I care about though)

Cons:
-Car list is quite sad imo.
-Same for track list.
-Lack of offline content
-Lack of tuning/customizing features

I understand the idea has changed with GTSport, which is why I’m trying to not be too harsh with my thoughts on the game. I do believe they have a wonderful foundation right now, but time will tell if they take advantage of what they have and make it a solid 9/10 game. I think a lot rides on the success of GTSport for the future of the Gran Turismo series.

Oh ok. I interpreted it as both choices saying that there was more bad then good, but that makes more sense. :)

50/50 for me. It can be fun, and I do enjoy the livery editor. But when it comes down to it the single player is lacking compared to previous GTs, the track list is shockingly limited and of the 100 odd cars there are far too many imaginary (rally NSX, WTF?), futuristic (they all sort-of look the same) and duplicated (how many SLS!) cars. As for online, I can take or leave it really. It's OK in small doses, but not very varied, the wait between races can be a bit of a joke and the penalty system isn't great.

Hopefully something good may show up in DLC, I recall that GT6 wasn't great at launch either, but spec 2 (eventually) sorted that out.

I would give it a 7. I'm truly enjoying the game. I like the online racing and the graphics are great. The new tracks are quite fun too. The livery editor is fun and works very well. I still try to get on every day.

What I don't like, the same as most people. The lack of tracks is my main thing. I would like to see more cars. I think we need more daily races in sport mode and not such a long break between them. I would also like to see a change for the cup races, a broader time frame. Maybe make it 16:00-24:00 or something.

Needs more proper tracks. Otherwise it has my vote of approval.
Easily the single most important thing they could do to breath more life into the game for me. With enough tracks a relatively small car list is not a problem. With more tracks they could introduce more and more varied events each day. I really hope for a 5 track (preferably real world tracks) track-pack. Would transform the game for me.

I'll make your words mine. I play GT since first game, and GTS is the fastest in making me losing interest. I'll give a break and will play Frozen Wilds (Horizon's DLC).

IMO the game is a solid 8/10.

I agree. I have always thought that the metacritic of 75 was just about spot on. I'm just in the "Good outweighs the bad" camp and it happens that what GTS does best is what I am looking for.

Id be giving it a 7.8/10
Good outweighs the bad IMO. Yes the content may not be there, but this is fixable in the future with the addition of more cars, tracks and challenges and missions.
Online is solid, but has some issues that need attention. Qualifying, SR and penalty system, but the actual gameplay is what I play the game for and that is top notch.

Had to go 50/50 here. People have already covered the reasons.

Everything about it as a multiplayer racing platform is a pretty good start and should be easy to build on.

It just needs more cars, tracks, and the "official" races to start as I assume there will be a broader selection of series to participate in.

The good outweighs the bad.

I haven't cared for single player in racing games for a long time so the fact that the old career mode is gone is not really a big deal to me.

The multiplayer side of it is not perfect and definitely could be improved, but it's a lot better than what I've experienced in Forza Motorsport over the years. FM was my go to online racing game for nearly a decade up until the fall of this year.

The car list is small, but I'm not really bothered by it. I'm more interested in using race cars like the GT3s anyway, There is a greater and far more balanced selection of GT3 (gr. 3) cars compared to what FM's modern GT division had to offer. So in a way, less is more.

My biggest gripe is the lack of tracks. SMS set the bar high when it came to number of locations and PD needs to follow suit.

8/10

Given how much time I'm putting into GT Sport I'd it's an easy 8/10. As I'm now getting into the livery editor it's edging towards a 9/10. We can all agree it needs more content, extra content I want to play. There are certain other games out there with huge amounts of content but the overall experience doesn't draw me in.

Good outweighs bad. On a scale of 1-10. I give it a 9 because I would give PCars 2 and Forza 7, which are both solid games, both a 8 and I still spend almost all of my time on GTS. Although I am just a casual lowly C Level Driver at best, the motivation is still high. Every Online race is different and highly entertaining. Sure sometimes I get divebombed and it's a bit frustrating but on the other hand I have passed so many guys who were hit by other people (and sometimes accidently by myself) as well. Definitly my personal game of the year.
What this game needs is more tracks.

It's a strange beast, but the good definitely out weighs the bad imho.

Starting with the most obvious things to someone looking for buying advice...

The car list is not great, but what it lacks in quantity it mostly makes up for in quality. There is far less rubbish that only hardcore nerds want to drive.

The track list is my biggest bug bear, it is not good plain and simple. The real world tracks that are in are very good, but the list is embarrassingly short. The rally tracks are absolute Mince and shouldn't even be in the game imho.
Of the PD originals, Maggiore, dragon trail, and the two driving park ones are awesome but alsace village is cack and the ovals are, well they're ovals, they suck. The circuit list is pretty dire.

The physics are, they're OK, not enough difference between cars other than when they lose grip. There is no real finesse to the physics engine, the tyre model is basic at best. The FFB is almost non existent.

The sound is definitely a vast improvement over previous GT titles, but still lacks any real rawness, no grunt.

Photo mode is good if you like that sort of thing, and the livery editor is pretty awesome if you take the time.

But all the bad is outweighed by the brilliant online. No other console racing game/sim has such a brilliant online system. (I know I racing on PC is the father but that's not on console is it) All racing titles need to have a version of Sport mode imho. It's great being able to go online and get a full grid of "well matched" racers. When you get a good clean close race the buzz is second to none. No need to make a date with friends or find a decent lobby. Just enter a race and sport mode does all the choosing and matching for you. Great for those of us who don't have many friends online.

8/10 with room for improvement. Basically if you stick Assetto Corsa's physics and sound in this, along with more circuits it would be perfect. (So basically if you put sport mode and prettier graphics in AC it would be perfect lol)

For me it's a really solid base from which the future looks promising. I'm back at it again after a 2+ year hiatus from sim racing and whilst I'm struggling to find my old lacklustre pace I'm really enjoying GT Sport. This version of the franchise is a definite and significant step forward and whilst it's not perfect, it's definitely good enough for me. I would really like to see more real world tracks as a priority though.

I would give it a 8/10. I love it.
GT feels like always just good to drive. The races are 99% lag free for me.

But:
Please disable the ugly and unrealistic Vision Cars that look like they just popped out of a Designers Head without getting refined to a working/manufacturable Car for FIA + Sport Mode unless it is a Vision Car only Race.
Optimize the BOP a little. (Mostly it is the ugly Vision Cars that are totally out of Control. Because someone gave them a handling out of his mind because they dont even exist.)
I am sure new Cars and Tracks will be implemented soon so no Problem.
Make Drifting better/possible. Car Handling in Drifts is nowhere near reality at the Moment.

Have to stop lurking at some point.
Was looking for a no nonsense sim 'lite' online focussed racer on console. Didn't really care for 'normal' cars per se but would be nice if the game included either a GT86, Mazda 6 or Porsche Cayman (currently saving money to buy one of them in real life). GTS got 2/3 and the Cayman in gr.4 trim. Almost nailed it.

It's been a while since i played a sim (lite) racer and i need some time getting reacquainted with the Nurb, Suzuka, Brands and the other tracks. So lack of tracks not really an issue for me yet. Can understand the more hardcore crowd scratching their head and saying : "is this it ?" though.

Over the first month i've only played with the Viper and RC F (gr.3) as i want to focus at getting a good feel/becoming decent with these two models and their FR drivetrains first. With about four different liveries between them, the 'lack of cars' is a non issue for me so far.

So for me it ticks most boxes; a stunningly beautiful place to meet with likeminded friends, a very good livery editor and most importantly (more often then not) a lot of clean and exciting racing. Good outweighs bad, 8.6/10

small wishlist:
-more variety in daily sport races
-more tracks always welcome

I'm getting tired about being conciliatory regarding PD. I've loved the the games and the driving without question. But PD has a proven repeated track record of missing deadlines, making promises they never deliver on, and releasing things that universally feel unfinished and then never finishing them.

And yet because we love to drive, and love the realism, and enjoy the community, we continue to forgive them when maybe we shouldnt. At some point the tipping point will arrive as it does with many other situations in the world, when people, even the most ardent loyalist fans, finally say 'enough'.
