Does your Fanatec GT DD Pro do this?

Hi All,

I recently became the lucky owner of a GT DD Pro and generally it's a good product. However, there is an issue I would like to make you aware of.

When setting up my rig, I struggled to get the wheel to point directly towards me. I realised it’s because the wheel is not 90* to the stem when fitted. Therefore I have to make my rig a few degrees out, in order for the wheel to be facing me correctly.

In the photo, you'll see a view from above the wheel. The blue lines show a true 90* angle relative to a vertical axis. The red lines highlight the issue.

I have made Fanatec aware of this, but their response was disappointing to say the least. They initially started by saying it was an issue with production, but do not see this as a quality issue or defect and are not offering a replacement part but only a discount on a QR1 Lite (which is free with a wheel anyway!).

Fanatec's official public statement on the matter

"...Within the manufacturing process of the QR1 Lite it cannot be avoided, that the material can deform during the cooldown process of the plastic, which leads to a very slight bending of the part which should not become noticeable during use.
In case you are not satisfied with the QR1 Lite, we can offer you a 30 % discount for the QR1 Wheel-Side. Please let us know if you want to accept this offer, then we directly will initiate the further procedure..."

I find it quite shocking that a product worth around £1,000 has such a low bar when it comes to quality standards.

Does anyone else have this problem and have you had a different response from Fanatec?

Thanks

That is completely unacceptable. If the cooldown process causes that much deformation then they need to manufacture it differently.

Awful response from Fanatec. I expected better.

Is it stated on their site somewhere that it can get warped like that? It is nice that they are offering a discount on the QR1. I'd take the offer if it were me. I myself bought the QR1 cause I knew the plastic was, well, plastic. That being said, it is definitely warped more that I thought possible, so soon.

I haven't looked to see if it states anything that specific, but I would imagine they have a general statement about tolerances that that can get them out of this kind of situation.

I've bought another Fanatec wheel, so I'm hoping the QR Wheel Side that comes free will fix the issue.

Also, it didn't warp whilst in my possession, it was like that to begin with.

Definitely understand your frustration. I have been concerned ever since Fanatec announced their intention of migrating efforts to more entry level equipment. While the solution facing you comes with definite cost, stay positive that you found a solution at all. Seems to me that this plastic only has limited life before it breaks from fatigue anyway, so maybe consider it an early upgrade. Best wishes and thanks for the nice picture. It’s sure to help out others who wonder why their rim is waving at them.
