That's how I'm understanding it as well. Doom 1, 2, 64 and 2016 are all the same guy. Doom 3 obviously wasn't the OG Doomguy, but from what I can tell, that's basically the only one where that's the case.
And well...

He's such a badass that they had to seal him away, hence the beginning of Doom 2016.

Yeah, gotta love that. I can't begin to imagine what Doomguy must've done to the inhabitants of hell over the yeas :D

A sword was mentioned at one point. Glory kills left and right!
Or chainsaw-esque insta-gibbing. Who knows.

I'd really get behind some DLC having us wreak havoc in hell during Doomguy's reign of terror. Playing the events that led to his incarceration, basically.

There are three DLCs coming, so keep your hopes up. I would die to see something like that.

Also, did anyone else have a "Holy 🤬" moment with the BFG-9000 and the room full of Possessed?

The three DLC packs are purely focused on the multiplayer, though. From the season pass:
Get the DOOM Season Pass and continue to expand your multiplayer experience with three new, premium DLC packs. DLCs will include new multiplayer maps, weapons, equipment, playable demons, custom armor sets, Hack Modules, taunts, and more.
I do hope that some singleplayer DLC is coming as well. Or a proper expansion, like Doom 3's Resurrection of Evil. The latter might seem more reasonable, actually, considering that the season pass specifically labels the DLC as a multiplayer affair.

Oh, and I've basically had "holy 🤬" moments with every new weapon I've received

They introduce the BFG's power by dropping you into a room with 30-40 possessed and a ton of explosive barrels. Awesome ensues

Did you already finished the game?

My Biggest wt* moment was (boss fight near story end i think) when
your are in hell to get the artifact, and the keeper appears. Already a though fight. Took me a while to lay him down, only to be greated than by two

I did beat it on "Hurt Me Please".

I absolutely hated the Hell Guardians (Those three demons are Hell Guardians). Thankfully, the duo is easier than the one before.

I'm about halfway through the game - I really am taking my sweet time as I'm scouring every level clean for the secrets. I'm notoriously bad at that sort of exploration so it takes a while. At least finding the damn levers for the secret levels really does. Doom does a good job of alerting you of the presence of nearby secrets so most stuff is easy enough to come by. But those damn levers...

I'm also switching back and forth between "Hurt Me Plenty" and "Ultra-Violence". HPM is great when running a level for the first time, but upon entering it with all the upgrades in place and, maybe more importantly, with the knowledge of where to go and what to expect, I like to go with UV. Can be pretty tough in some places, though.

I happened across two looking for the objective, I think.

I've actually managed to find everything in every level so far. Most secrets aren't that difficult to find, thanks to the minimap. I'll be honest, I did look up the locations of the classic level lever on Argent Energy Tower and The Foundry. Sigh... Now I just gotta go back and finish the challenges on Argent Energy Tower. First time I failed to meet those.

That Gauss, though...

I had issues with the Gauss gun...It was way too slow for me.

It is slow, yeah... I use it in conjunction with the Super Shotgun: SSG for close range, Gauss for long range  Works well, but you gotta mind your spacing. I find it easier to use than the Rocket Launcher, at least.

I find the launcher easier. (I blame TF2)

I tend to mostly run the Plasma Rifle with that heat sink mod.

I might just need more practice with the Rocket Launcher. I generally tend to lock on and fire, then switch to something else while the lock on cools down.

Here's a tip: Try playing TF2 as a Soldier. You'll learn how to track and predict.

I can't say that I'm particularly interested in TF2

I'll probably need to get to grips with every weapon to eventually beat the higher difficulties, though. Oh well, as long as my trusts Super Shotty does it's job, I'll be fine :embarrassed:

Oh, have you gotten to the BFG yet?

Nope. But knowing myself, I'll hog every single shot until I absolutely have to use it. I'm stingy like that.

Same for the Chainsaw.

So I finally picked this up and got it downloaded, and holy crap is it gorgeous. Everything on max with a solid 60 fps... on a 970.

The 970 is no slouch by any stretch of the imagination, but I can't remember the last time a game ran this smoothly out the gate. Of course... there's the random CTD that is caused by nothing at all from what I can tell, but other than that it's a-okay.

The odd CTD is annoying, but it's been very rare for me.

Optimisation is also quite impressive. And it only got better with the latest drivers. 👍

Got all the Doomguy bubbleheads. Almost all weapons are fully upgraded. The mobile turret with infinite ammo is a blast!

This game can make me sick sometimes.
The weakest enemies produce the most noise. Their houls, accompanied with piles of blood is just ewwww.
The devs really made a good job at portraying disfigured bodies all over the place. Smushed, ripped, jellyfied, hanged, skinned, hey, that skeleton still has it's eyes and an armored chestplate, yes, why not use dead bodies as bricks for our wall.

ugh...

also, the VEGA AI sounds like the AI from Ace Combat Infinity.

Also, the Elite Guards are weird. Their suits are clean, with no signs of damage, and still have their power on- the light on the face is on. I've read that they could be deactivated by a kill switch. Who knows, maybe you were collecting the suit tokens from them that actually the chips that deactivated them? And it's a pretty strange place to place an upgrade chip- right in the centre of your chestplate. Not even covered by anything.

Also, who are the "ghost knights"? They have big statues in Hell and I thought that they are some guys from the middle ages. But during the ending credits their suits look high-tech with modern pouches and LEDs.

Who was Olivia talking to? It's said that there is something big that controls the "zombies". Some kind of a leader that we haven't seen yet.

The lore - based on Codex entries - states that Doomguy is a demon from Argent D'Nur who was part of a guard of some sort. The demons of Hell raved his group, leaving him the only one alive. That's why he rampaged through hell. It appears that the suits were high tech back then, but that might have to do with the Betrayer. As for the Elite Guards, my guess is the chips in their chestplate are both the augmentation and kill chip, and they have to be readily accessible so they can be transferred to new Elite Guards if one dies.

I need to re-read the files.

Some screenshots I made:

Look at picture two and then read my blurb about Argent D'Nur. It'll make a lot of sense.
I knew he was somehow connected to them, but I got confused.
By the way, if there's Hell, maybe there's also Heaven? Maybe they were from Heaven?
