Utterly hate it. I've never had trouble over-revving cars in any game or IRL on downshifts. Now suddenly after patch 2.0 I randomly find my cars not shifting down, even after slowing the shifts right down and letting the revs drop to about 50% of their rev range. I'd rather have downshift protection off and have the possibility of blowing engines.

It almost feels like my wheel has an intermittent fault. GT Sport never had an issue at the PC2 time patch 2.0 came out, so I doubt it's my wheel. Maybe it has, but I also know something else that has a legendary list of bugs and playability issues, so naturally I'm automatically going to suspect that...

I too love it, even though I sometimes fall foul of it, although not too much as I'd already learned my lesson from blowing engines (a lot) at first. I suspect the loudest complainers run with mechanical damage off so wouldn't have had that problem

I think it's broken and not done very well. Once you try to downshift and it doesn't go, your toast. I'll try several times before it finally goes into gear and speed doesn't seem to matter. I hate it. Weird thing is it only does it when using the clutch and shifter. If I use the paddles it may deny the shift but by the second time I try it usually goes in as I've slowed down just enough.

rarely have a problem with it. I use my brakes to slow the car down, not the engine.

I have many bad driving habits I have to try to get round in the game due to owning a driving nothing but big diesel 4x4's in RL for many years, so having a lead foot and engine /gear braking is really ingrained in me :boggled:

Having read the thread it looks like they're trying to prevent rapid multiple downshifts. Fair enough if the 'box can't do that, but I find it's very random when shifting 1 gear. E.g. turn 2 at Fuji is often a single downshift at it misses that often.

if i had a diesel for years, all i know is i'd probably run every corner one gear higher than anyone else because I'd just use all that torque to pull me out of em.

who cares if the revs dip to 800 rpm

Using the clutch is the only way to bypass it from what I read on the SMS thread.

Isn't working for me. Just seems to make it worse. Get stuck in nuetral for what feels like forever, maybe 2-3 seconds.

Hence the really bad case of lead foot, when you're in 5th gear doing 35mph you just ram the throttle down any old how, no subtlety required

Yeah that can't be fun, especially if you've got someone on your tail.

So far I've only used manual with clutch in time trials so not much of a big deal but frustrating for the moment. I'll continue to stick to paddle shifting online and in career mode.

So, a video is worth a thousand words (that could came across plain rude)

My own thoughs (from 2m) about not being able to downshift/downshift fast (cold tyres - pratice) and I don't even like or drive Formulas.

I personally don't like it, its like getting JIP lag. Your about to shift and as you hit the paddle someone joins the session, the game freeze frames and your gear change didn't happen. I have also found it to be a bit random sometimes it kicks in and others it don't and yes it was the same car same session same track.

Indeed, I do make mistakes when I'm stressed :P

Seriously, it's pretty consistent here and doesn't cause me any issue.

And if you allow me to be blunt it seems this is an issue for console players. I haven't read R3E or AC people complaining (in PC land that is).

The downshift protection will be made a bit less strict in the next patch.
I hope so. i thought my buttons on my brand new XBONE controller, were playing up.

Did a 25 minute race at Imola. Even when i slowed right down at the hairpin, took 2-3 presses of the button to down shift from 3rd to 2nd. Tested my downshifts at below redline and well into the mid-range. Was randomly not engaging 2nd gear. Seems extremely random.

Can't explain that. But since it's going to be looked at I don't think it'll be longer to work for everyone. (Yes it has been confirmed)

First sms say it won't be changing it, loads people complain, then they say they're going to change it.

How can you not love that response?

I think project cars 3 should involve as much of the community as possible and have multiple beta releases. Hey maybe sms will have enough money to publish it themselves by then?

:)

What do you think your playing right now lol except we have payed to be part of the experience.:D

I got used to DSP in other games and it's not an issue, in AC I very rarely trigger it, but it is a bit too intrusive on PC2. Was driving around last night in a server with a buddy and I'd say that only about 60% of my downshift requests per lap were being honored. Glad it's being toned down a bit.

They're not going to remove it.
If it was me in charge I wouldn't change a thing wrt to this.

But again, pC will be hurt because some ...

I think that its a great system to have in place, and very realistic, but is far too strict atm. Watch some onboard footage of GT3 cars and look how fast they gear down and pay close attention to the rev ranges. The DPS is far too strict (in GT3 category) compared to real life IMO (watching a metric S@#$ ton of GT3 Racing) ... So hopefully it is fixed in the next patch.

Edit: Example

He's downshifting as fast as you could pump the lever into La Source. In fact that looks so fast it's like auto downshifting to me.

And in what way is that different than what i'm doing in the video above exactly?
It's not. You can downshift as fast as you can/the gearbox allows as long as you're dropping revs fast enough to not be over the 105% rev limit. 👍 The speed that you can downshift does vary per car though.
