There could be good from drifting going mainstream. car manufaturers will see what the drifters are doing for ways of safety and carry the ideas to production cars, making them safer.

Six-and-one-half-dozen-the-other..........I still believe that Johnny Law will make driving for the rest of us a chore rather than one of life's simple joys. Car MFR's are already taking cues from the ricers and the whole Sport Compact car culture, but the same culture has also forced a public outcry to put limits on us already.

For every good thing the car culture does for us, there's another law that pops up (EG: reduced speed limits in some states, limits on performance enhancements and modifications, increased insurance premiums, financing restrictions, etc)
Don't believe me? How much do you think insurance for a '92 SC 2dr Saturn costs (liability only, 26yr old male, 10 yr clean DMV record)? $60, $75, $90??? Since GM decided that Saturn was to be their "Sport Compact" line to compete with the ricermobiles, I paid $125 per month!!!!!!!
How 'bout financing??? I test-drove each, a: SVT Focus, SRT4, and a Sentra SE Vspec-R. Even with decent credit, on what I make, I can't afford ANY one of them. (add finance / service chrgs on top of monthly payments on top of full-coverage insurance)

Thanx ALOT Vin Diesel!!!!:banghead:

the Saying is actually "Six in one, Half dozen the other." Ouch, on the insurance. My wife drives a 4wd truck, I drive a VW 4 dr. she's had her license suspended and two major accidents. I have a clean record for the entire time I've been driving. we pay $161 a month. Ouch.

As for making it a chore, you should know that driving is a priveledge, not a right. For each priveledge, it costs money. Yes, it's expensive to maintain and run a car. I could live in Boston, make $25,000 more than I do now, and drive a segway instead of a car. never have to deal with parking or the hassles of having a car in a big city. But the stress would kill me off 10 years early. I elect to live outside the suburbs, and therefore have to have a car. It's all a choice.

If the extra laws and regulations make the roads safer for me, that's great. It'll hopefully push more people to the track sceen where they'll be safer and have a better opportunity to learn.

Please don't grind Vin Diesel for the FnF, He's done so much worse since then. His over inflated ego has done much better about getting him out of the movie spot light. C'mon, did you see "A man apart"? The missus dragged me to suffer through that one. Perhaps his best movie was "Pitch Black" and that was before his real breakout.

Difficulty and Cost.
This would have long ago killed NASCAR. I don't see this happening to drifting. Drifting is something fresh and new that the US motor sports scene needs. I've been dying to see a true F1 race here in the US since I was a kid. Yet the closest I've come is knowing there is a race once a year in Montreal. It unfortunately usually falls on or near my wedding anniversary. Gotta convince the wife to celebrate up there some time. ;)

i think its a good thing.. drifting has been popular here for a while now.. mainly because of drift session, promoting it.. and thats how we get these awesome events like D1GP USA, and Drift Showoff. Who cares if APC sponsors a few cars.. i dont see a problem with that, the APC(K-Style) cars are sweet. check this video out, http://team-rice.org/driftshowoff.wmv
