Drifting...the new rice boy phase?

I am by far not a drift boy, but(!)... In my friends 240sx we set up cones in a parking lot outside of our town thats basically abandoned.. And tried some drifting, and it was hard as all hell... Although, when my friend is behind the wheel he is pretty good.... Until one day he was drifing and I was riding passanger as usual and he tried to drift this hairpin type turn in a huge development (which is kosher by me) and we ended up on someones front lawn.. Funny part is the guys lawn we ended up on was a HUGE drift enthusiast and basically showed us how to do it right... I thought that was funny as hell. Dam near impossible i would say. But if someone says they can drift you can almost guarantee it is BS.

the fire extinguisher he claims, gave the car an extra 10hp on his 92 sentra. its almost funny. the x-gen americans demand a well cut refined and sometimes personality deprived image, as if its the only thing that has a meaning, we'all used to be one and its a depressing way of life. these people will never be drifters because they can only grasp the concept of color scheme stealing from car mags and the size of the park benches they call spoilers.

i consider drifting to be a personal goal, something i do on my own. the only competition is against the track, finding that sequence of turns on the mountain, waiting weeks for new bushings because im too hard on the 180. taking the long way home because its more exciting. It will NEVER be a polularity contest.

is mindless competiviness and self image going to ruin drifting?
we all will have to set the example...end rant

:mischievous:

i suppose this topic would make a reall good manga? well?????

the evil charcters will have mustaches and horrendous wheel designs, the female drivers will rock! the main character goes nuts, his friends has czesures, his brothers girlfriend secetly drifts at night, and is the same age as the main character (with spikey hair) who dirves a golf at first until its totaled and he goes through some soul searching into manhood and buys a better car that totaly redefines his character and driving ability, all his rivals are diginified oponents with good knowledge about cars who give advice and offer mentorship, while his parents have no idea whats happening to their son and why he stays out late, confronting him about the balance of work, school and having no fun, any room for the non-car related love story and post race college life(which fortunately will turn into another drifting adventure)

already started on it.

You gotta have a best friend for the main character, named Mark (my name hehe) who talks crap about all the other drivers even though they're way better than he is. :D

I've heard THAT one before... *shakes head* You can believe what you want, but there's always a way to do anything, that I assure you.

hehe!

can i be a char?

i wouldent even mind being a bad guy, the unknown SIleighty driver who is obsesed with nismo so much that he lets it blind him from becoming a better racer and makes him hate his other kin (i.e. subaru, mistu, toyota. but he never will like honda....)

why do you care what other people think about drifting? geez do it because you wanna do it not because it used to be "underground" ive been into drifting even before i could drive, from watching nearly every option video in existence. who cares if its becoming mainstream. the drifting tremd might end up dying, but i'll still be into drifting.

im 15, and ive been into drifting since i was 13....so dont think your the only one. I have been to Japan a few times and been to events and to industrial squares to watch. I have family up in Japan who are all very familiar with drifting.

Drifting is a show for the audience, and there's very little left in the world today to get people's blood boiling and their minds excited. Drifting has the excellent potential of becoming a wonderful sports event. If it dies out because of people misusing it then that's a terrible loss in my opinion. The world needs something to bring the excitement back in peoples eyes, I don't know if you've noticed but everything seems to be getting pretty boring pretty fast.

Why are people calling this a "sport"?
I've seen "drifting" on tv hailed as the next great motor sport.
From what I saw, it's a bunch of punks doing donuts in a parking lot. Great sport.

These people never heard of auto-x or open track days?
Would love to see how developed their "racing" skills are when
running with a pack of REAL cars on a REAL track and you can hit a REAL wall REAL hard.

As a 36 yr old father, I hope this "sport" dies quickly.

I remembered another point I wanted to bring up about my last post... Along with seeing civics and integras all the time, everyone get's all excited about having the newest car but you know what in the end they are all cookie cutter cars that's it there's no history behind them no stories to tell about them no personality to them. For example, a Hachi Roku or even like mustangs they have a heritage and a personality and that's why I don't like cars like the civics and integras. Also, what are they really good for? drag racing? drifting? no...

Nick:banghead:

What about skylines? they have plenty of history...how many cars get kicked out of group A racing because they're considered too good?

Its all a matter of opinion....what are mustangs really good for? they may be slightly fast but cant handle as well as other cars... every car has a down side....even the skyline....though I hate to admit it....(the factory block develops a crack in between the 3rd and 4th cylinders once you get to 900 hp....pluss the con-rods only last up to about 550 hp :( ) I've seen civics beat vipers....It all depends on how you view things....

plus you can't really compare civics to mustangs....v8 vs 4 cyl....real fair comparison....:banghead:

BTW do you like the new viper? I think they ruined it....it looks too corvette-ish...I prefer the older ones....they look meaner....

kodiak

this is what this thread is trying to distinguish between, the drunk college kids and the dedicated all nighters

youve have been dubbed the drifting party pooper
in my new manga!

the old man who shakes his fists at the young racers and slahses their tires! egad, its a supervillian!
his character will be based on a naive nascar fan who drives a high performance baige ford, non turbo.

if this does get big (and i personally think it won't until later as in they'll won't be a fast and furious drift movie) gay civic owners will be come gay silvia/FR owners. or the gay civic owners will start using the handbrake that they never use. (by gay civic owners i mean ricers.. clear lights and an loud ass exhaust... people who don't kno the first thing aboot cars) ... drifting, without a doubt become the next ricer phase... it's going to defile all that is good to drifting. it better not get big ... its good that it's small. pray that initial D doesn't become as huge as pokemon in the states.

 OH GOD I DIN'T THINK OF THAT!!!! DID YOU KNOW THEY ALREADY MADE AN INITIAL D CARD GAME? AND ITS COMING TO THE US.....AWWWWWW CRAP :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

integras are great cars... i have no idea why you question them VIPfreak. on many circuit races, integras beat our cars like BMWs, mercedes, altezzas, and other road race cars quite frequently, in fact, last year an integra swept one of the gt series in the US. so to say that an integra isnt good for much isnt very fair.
