I was messing around with settings and didn't release the new system update HDR option was 'off' as standard, I have now set to Full and automatic, It might be my eyes but the graphics/colours definitely seem more vibrant and detailed (realistic) though that could be I played this after VR which is a little blurry on DC. How have you found HDR on your screen/tv? Mine is only a 1080p (decent colour/hz) but not 4k yet.

Just took your advice and changed the settings on my standard PS4 and run a TT - it certainly looks like the light quality has more range, very noticeable when looking into the sky around the sun's glare.

@torque99
:) Don't we all want peace.. Pardon me for my ignorance cause i'm on the old ps4 and no dcvr yet. Are you saying that dcvr tweaks more out of dc photo mode? and @MeanElf you're confirming this? And both connect to a 1080p. What if you look at the photos on another monitor(still 1080p)?

Hi FastNervana,

To Clarify on a standard PS4 with HDR on I don't think much will change at the moment.

DCVR (Virtual Reality) is a separate game and has its own graphics capability (although it caps out at 1080p too this is different to the HDR and will make no difference to the old DriveClub photos) see below

HDR (High Dynamic Range)- This was added to the standard PS4 via the system update 4.0 recently (to everyone) and I assumed it was 'On' but it seems it was an option and you have to go to settings and set it to Auto, although it looks like not many games are using this feature yet, so I doubt it would notice too much on existing games but worth putting on Auto just in case it does! đź‘Ť

More Info on it.

Thank you for clearing that up. From what I can see on the page you linked Driveclub doesn't support hdr, but as you say it's worth a try;)

Supported or not, the pictures I took last night on my PS4 definitely seemed sharper (see the reflections) with more colour gradation visible as a result too. Nor do I think it's just a placebo effect either, as the PS4 received a patch to make use of HDR, as Mr @torque99 said. I think it does that on all games, even if they haven't had a specific patch which if I recall the Sony presentation, was more to enhance the 4K aspect in games for the 4 and the Pro.

Anyway, not a massive difference (which I didn't really expect) but one that is still noticeable all the same. It's going to be fun when I do get around to replacing the current screen with a decent 4K one and get the Pro to go with it.

I'm not arguing just not experienced enough with photo mode to spot the differences so i have to ask. will def try this hdr out myself if my old Bravia HD TV. What about HDMI cable quality as mentioned by Sony?

I tested my HD PC HDMi against the one Sony give you with the PS4 again minimal differences for me, I think the big change as @MeanElf says is if/when you put HDR or the PRO up against a large 4k TV. It is a difficult decision for a lot of people I guess with the Holidays coming up soon whether to go 4k or not to 4k!đź‘Ť

Sorry to give the impression that I thought you were arguing, I din't by the way - I just got carried away trying to explain myself, so sorry for that :)

I mean, like I said, it could be the placebo effect or the lighting level. I just saw more sharpness in the reflections some of which had previously been somewhat jagged on the windscreen. I'll leave this somewhat GTP compressed image as example - look at the gritty surface to see what I mean: there just seems to be more tonal difference between light and dark.

I also finally got round to trying the updated ShareFactory, so very quickly made a Video of Black Hills (storm) with a PIP (picture in Picture option) and a little gif, there are also 'memes' now you can make with any caption/photo you like on there, this could be useful on GTP-I will give this a go later :)

Do you guys have 4K HDR TVs? Because for HDR to make any difference you need a TV that supports it. Without a HDR capable TV, turning the option on won't do anything, even in games that support HDR output.

So the HDR won't work on a 2K HDR capable TV?;) You may be correct @Mike_grpA . Besides this the effect we observe could be related to the "Deep colour output" that is on the same settings page, and automatically turns on when HDR is set to automatic. IDK...

I've no idea if my TV supports HDR - it isn't a 4K and is a good few years old, so probably not.

I'll go with what @FastNervana suggests.

Yeah I love DriveClub BIKES still, I even went back and looked at my first pictures a year ago now (on twitter) anyway posting up my faves from when the DLC first came available and I was unsure about purchasing as never got on with Bikes in games really since PGR4. But these are lovely to handle even in First Person views or 3rd person. The sense of speed and engine sounds are great today as they were on that day I fired up the PS4 and downloaded the Bikes! Another great job by EVO...đź‘Ť
