James Cole tests United Autosports Toyota Avensis.

Donington Park has today (21st November) been a hive of activity as various drivers and teams begin winter testing ahead of the 2014 season.

One team that are looking to make their debut in the BTCC next season are United Autosports, and they ran former Team Hard driver James Cole in Frank Wrathall’s Toyota Avensis.

Cole had stepped away from the series at the halfway point this past season and has since been working on a deal to return with United Autosports at the forefront of his plans. Wrathall himself was on hand to provide assistance to the ex-Formula Ford champion as the NGTC machine was put through its paces.

Running in championships such as the British GT series and European Supercar Challenge, United Autosports have a strong pedigree in motorsport even though they were only established in 2009. It would now appear that the BTCC is their next destination.

Civic Tourer looks like a step up in size to the regular Civic. Aerodynamic advantages maybe?

No real loss for Pirtek losing Jeff Smith, his performances have always been lack-luster, but i guess he brought money to the team. Wonder if they'll get another paid driver or just concentrate on a single car next season. Has an entry list been published yet?

Martin Depper perhaps...

Totally just stole a charge in the "Can't believe they raced it" thread :P

Yay for yet more body shapes! Its been ages since we've had an estate-style car!

Was a pretty good night though easily spent at least 40 mins with aiden's going all though the cruze with how it was built etc.

Right under the bonnet/interior/suspension, a lot of stories as well that he had bought 2 cars and ip's trucks etc for 350k all turned out to be rubbish as all he got was the car, spares and about 40 sets of wheels for a rather cheap cost.

John Cleland was also there :)

Team Dynamics have definitely thrown a massive curveball into the series by racing the first estate car since the Volvo 850 T5-R in 1994. It's going to be quite a sight when it makes it's competitive debut next year.

Am I the only one who realises that an estate car might be harder to perform a PIT manoeuvre on?
