My What?
I recorded some video recently at Skip Barber on my new Go Pro. I can't figure out for the life of me how to properly edit them, I still use Windows XP so I only have the default Windows Movie Maker, which is fine but it refuses to open MP4 files, I've been trying and deleting various free and trial versions of video editing software all day to no avail, and even tried Go Pro's own "CineForm Studio" software to try and convert the MP4 file to an AVI, etc file, but it's incredibly slow. I guess what I'm asking is what should I do? I don't want anything fancy, I just want to cut some areas of the video, etc. Movie Maker always worked fine for me but like I said it won't open MP4 files and I'm pretty sure it doesn't edit HD video either..

I'm pretty sure Adobe Premiere Pro has a 30 day free trail. It may seem over whelming but I had a PIP video in half an hour. It can also convert file types to be used in a more familiar software.

Personally I use sony vegas for editing (for GoPro footage too 👍). However this would probably not be suited to you as it has a scarey price tag, but worth it.

Not sure what others are out there to try, so just do a search and find something that would suit your needs.

I'll give Sony Vegas a try, they have a "studio" version which is probably more suited to me.

Scarey price tag in our stupid country with its technology tax.
In the USA it will be cheaper.

Hahaha yep, that's true.
I'm just glad you don't have to re-buy the whole program again to upgrade to the next version.

Converting an HD video from one format to another will take a while. Perhaps that's just how long your PC will take to do it.

Converting 10 minutes of HD video from mt2s to mp4 used to take over an hour on my PC before I upgraded it.

My old PC could encode a BD movie that had a 16GB file size in 8hours and this was with a Q9300 CPU overclocked to 3.25Ghz.

My new PC can do 2 16GB BD movies in about the same time,so a 100% increase in speed by going to a i5 3570k CPU.

Never overlook the hardware when it comes to encodeing speed as it can even make the crappyiest program encode faster.
