So wrong, and yet so right.

:D

Pretty much sums up the entire car lol. No rules and no ****s given. So today I went out to steal some wheels off my white Mk3.. Pulled the lip and decided to use it for something.. Cut it a little on the sides and in the middle, made some extra holes for mounting and then this happened :D

I always had a feeling the euro duckbill lip could suit the Toyota.. Have to adjust it a little but it's good fun.

My GTti was the victim of a hit and run not long ago, someone smashed up the fender.. No note of course. Whoever did it took out the alignment at the same time, luckily it was just a matter of adjusting the lower strut bolts back to where they were. Car started running like **** on Friday so I'm troubleshooting at the moment.. When a lot of electricity is drawn (headlights and/or fans) it pops and bangs and hesitates. I'm puzzled but I'm sure we'll get it fixed pretty soon. The fender:

I changed fenders today and changed wheels while I was at it. Now I have a multi-colored turbo car with turbo wheels

Speaking of turbos, I may pick up a set of 7Jx15 OZ Turbos now.. Planning to keep the fronts as is and build a set of 8s for the rear.

Test fit #2, picked up a set of ATS Pepperpots for the white Charade yesterday. Expensive week and we're just half way :D

Yes, the white car is on the ground here. Yes, it needs a massive slam. Wheels everywhere :D

Went to a track day yesterday.. The ATS wheels just happened to be on the way. The Funcargo became a show car for some hours

This weekend we went on a small road trip to a buddies cabin, the Funcargo really tripped and thought it was an off roader.

It continues to be a very good daily.. Having put over 600 miles on it in the last week driving scrap away, collecting wheels, parking at a show without looking totally mal plassé and as the car for the weekend getaway, I have to say I can't think of a more awesome daily at the moment :)

The other day my daily got some TLC. 5W-30 fully synthetic Mobil 1 and OEM filter as always every 9k miles, also replaced the trans oil. The boxes on these cars are jerky, 'racing' fully syn and additive made it a little smoother.

While draining fluids I pulled the G10 out and changed wheels.. First time on the road this year, about time. Now even the brakes are spinning free lol. It's screaming for coilovers now, but lower with different tires this could work

Yesterday I took the Funcargo on a beer run

Yes it rubbed but looks pretty cool at this height lol. Beer makes everything look better haha

I just have to use this opportunity to thank everyone on GTP that follows, read, comment or stop by this thread. I don't spend much time on these forums bar the members rides section, but this thread has really developed into something more than I thought it would.. :) It also helps me being organized with all the cars and motivates me into taking more pictures :)

Now that certainly is "fun cargo" :D

Haha yes, it does exactly what it says on the tin :D

Hey erik, what coilovers did you put on the red mk3?

I had FK AKs on the red Mk3 and TuningArts (similar to TA Technix) on the white. The FKs didn't go low enough for my liking, but no leaks after six years and 30k miles in use. Wound half way down both sets rode pretty well, wound all the way down both cars drove rather bouncy. If you're going low (now or in the future) I wouldn't recommend either, if you're after a medium drop that performs as springs and shocks on a budget neither is a really bad choice.

I put some more fun into the Funcargo :) Two of the mounts had sheared off so I let my exhaust guy loose on the car.. No tailpipe
20140919_145414.jpg

He built a custom cat back, came out pretty well.
20140919_140337.jpg

Gonna do a clip don't worry lol. It's deep without being too loud.. Got a small leak up front I gotta address first

Daily got 15s.. Found a stocker in the wild looking down at my car
20140924_153709.jpg

Now I can do my hard cornering with pleasure.. Turn-in is pretty accurate, still debating for a set of Watanabes or similarly light wheels with 888s for hooliganism, which can also be used on the GTti.. Btw if anyone wants to donate to air ride and wide 15" TH lines fund for this car I won't say no lol.

A buddy texted me last night if I wanted a 91 Saab 99, his GFs grandparents are selling. Obviously there is no such thing as a 1991 99 but as long as it's not a GM Saab I'm game. Getting it as cheap as I do I'm not real worried, as long as it's not a rolling pile..

I only bought one car this year.. Let's do this :D

SO many updates so much

Those rims. Love it.

The Funcargo exaust sounds awesome.

And as always all your cars in the pics and the pics 👍

Keep it up man.

Oh and that 86 is sooo sweet

So then this happened
20141010_175158.jpg

Got some rust I need to blast before the winter.. **** battery acid
20141010_175116.jpg

So now I'm tooling around in a Yaris Hybrid trying to save the planet, cruised the Oslo beltway at the posted 40mph limit for the first time.. in my life I guess lol. Smugness factor 3000, with things I'm not used to.. You know, cruise, assisted everything, AC.. I don't like the CVT but other than that it's good.

I hope I don't have to borrow it for too long though - if I have to drive it more than a couple of days I'm gonna have to throw the Rotiforms on :D And yeah I know, all these cars and I have to borrow one.. :)
It looks like an SUV next to the primadonna though

Last night I had sand everywhere. But I got the battery tray and the frame rail sand blasted down to bare metal. Mostly, at least.

20141011_164659.jpg

20141011_180439.jpg

And the primer was laid down nicely enough.
20141011_191715.jpg

Just a preventative measure to keep my daily on the road for years :)

So I got some paint laid down today in between everything else
20141013_151457.jpg

I blasted the rust bubble on the wheel arch the other day too; of course worse than I hoped but what can you do.. **** road salt. I got the most of it off, will blast the rest on the underside and have something on to avoid spreading.
20141013_151813.jpg

With the rear bumper corner off I found some old damage behind it.. Essentially not a big deal, but since I'm already at it I'll blast this too. At least finish isn't anything of importance :)
20141013_151822.jpg

I'm debating a second coat on the frame rail/battery tray.. Most probably I'll do it. But I'm getting satisfied, from this on Friday;
20141010_175116.jpg

To this today
20141013_151547.jpg

Yes it's somewhat pitted from the corrotion eating up the metal. Of course I haven't used any body filler of any form; first of all it's not visible and second of all I hate bondo. If/when rust starts (re)appearing I'll spot it sooner the way it's done now and it's not a show car. The engine bay isn't painted metallic from stock; now I have a dope frame rail and battery tray.

I threw together the car and started driving again after last update. Didn't finish the rear quarter but completed that yesterday, had some undercoating and primer and paint and what not on.. Looked like this somewhere in the process
15015665063_397b9a90a6_b.jpg

Today I washed and waxed the car, pulled off some molding so I could clean it up behind there too.. Two observations I've made over the past two days, MFRs don't even paint inside areas that are invisible behind bumpers and covers, and plastic covers on metal is a rust trap.

After four years I've also pulled off the bumper protectors.. Finished after pre-winter detailing session:

Not too shabby after 14 years
15015080144_3c499ced38_b.jpg

Oh, and the battery tray/frame rail finished up (bad pic)
15612112736_b533a10383_b.jpg

Bye bye Mk2 :(
15449194309_802fe846e1_b.jpg

Now it can sleep together with the other VW :)

Went on a little road trip today and scored a set of cheap RH Cup 7.5Jx16 I'm gonna use as winter wheels for the Funcargo.. :) Got them even cheaper as I apparently had spoken with the dude on several forums earlier and he knew my cars haha. Had no idea before I was in his driveway and spoke to the guy

Winterräder

I've been slacking lately.. After I put the daily in winter mode I've really not been super motivated lol
20141108_145326.jpg

Sold my coilovers from the white car and did this to a poor Vento on Monday
20141118_022812.jpg

Dragged my ass up to the garage today, pulled the bumper on the GTti and spotted some rust.. Hit it with a wire wheel, gonna sand blast it and get it primered and coated this week. Really not bad at all
20141123_143131.jpg

Started wiring
20141123_160040.jpg

For these
20141123_150451.jpg

The other day I ended up yarding.. Found my dailies twin

20141202_155404.jpg

Snatched the front fender flares, for my rear. It makes no sense how these cars don't have rears stock but whatever.. Let's make it happen
20141202_155348.jpg

Today I soldered a little.. I have always enjoyed this since I learned it back in science class and realised I could use it building cars :D
20141206_190748.jpg

Rear US side marker wired up
20141206_191600.jpg

Euro market Charade dummy 'side marker', cut up to accomodate a Mk3 repeater and some wiring from my old mk3
20141206_200721.jpg

And it works
20141207_212805.jpg

So the front marker is courtesy of my old Mk3 while a Suzuki Swift license plate bulb socket gave the rear marker light; I consider myself a modern day hot rodder, use what you got to get it to work :)

Bought these HVAC switches for the Funcargo.. :)
2014-12-02133915_zpsbbd78994.jpg

Only problem is I need a matching gear knob now lol. I guess a new head unit is going in around Christmas too, pampered daily will be sound insulated come spring. I ****ing love the car and will drive it until the wheels fall off :)

Spent the last week in Cyprus and found my 16v.
15448135084_821f4b6f19_b.jpg

Had some drives which were really nice, bring able to drive a future classic in December really cured my seasonal abstinence of driving real cars :)
15884161707_3a4ed7f08f_b.jpg

Threw in a new battery, air filter and distributor cap so it fires a little more easy. I have some plans for the summer.. :)

Holy crap. Not been online in a while so plenty to read. Great last shot of the GTI. And the Funcargo looks like an awesome daily, love seeing it with all the different wheels. So uncool it's cool. I've debated getting something hugely unfashionable as a daily before just for the joy of using something day to day that I don't really care about.

Haha thanks man, always something happening here. I was pleased with the GTI shot myself, captured a nice moment. Some minor things to tear into, but that's how it is.

The Funcargo is the best daily I've had. No actually best car. I've put nearly 80k miles on it, closing in on 140k in total now and it runs and drives very well, especially with the mods I've done. I only needed a driver while doing some work to my red mk3 but I've grown to love it. Plus I do have a soft spot for weird/ugly cas with mods, like the Daihatsus haha.

Picked up a new HU and center console in addition to the HVAC switches, will mount it when my switches and console show up.. 'Show car', road tripper, parts carrier and Christmas tree express
20141223_133201.jpg

Merry Christmas people :)

Merry Christmas people :)
Likewise. The Funcargo definitely falls into the "everything has potential" category. There's a certain joy in someone doing stuff to cars like this that nobody else would.

And merry Christmas!
