no security chip

Huh?

So I've kitted out my Cobra fairly nicely, I don't think I'll go grade A on everything but it might be interesting to see how much better that would be than my current mix of A, B and C-grade stuff. I toyed with the idea of fitting one laser, one multi-cannon, one cannon and one plasma accelerator but I decided the latter would be overkill and then I'd only have one class 2 and two class 1 slots left. In the end I got two lasers and two multi-cannons, a grade 1 and 2 of each, all four on gimbals.

Now I'm thinking I might get an Asp as I'm only, oh, 5.3 million credits short...

Edit. This one has lots of recommendations for Elite: Dangerous.

This is another Thrustmaster product that has been found to work on the PS4 without the security chip which is supposed to be required for a controller to work on the PS4.

Confirmation here.

I haven't received mine yet.

Thanks for the info! Pretty decent price at that to what I was expecting. As I said it's mainly just for ED but it will be nice to try out other games.

My old Amiga used to run fine at 20fps. I'm in the 'new PC required' boat too, though I had planned on upgrading next year anyway.

The more YouTube vids I watch of Elite:D, the more I think this will be a must have for me.

I'd love to see Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen come out on PS4. Maybe with the graphical and physics detail in the PC version it would end up recreating the nostalgia of the 48k Spectrum graphics at 6fps. Your Amiga had at least 10 times the memory and did multiprocessing ;)

i think elite would work well but star citizen has already said no to consoles.
elite plays really well on a gamepad.

Is there anything in terms of price between the cobra at 379k and the other ships at over a million. it just seem like a too larger gap.

really enjoying playing it though.

No, sadly. I heard they're adding a load of ships in an update so hopefully they'll pad the gaps a little, it doesn't take too long to go from a Cobra to a Type 6 but not everyone wants to trade. Then again, if you want combat I don't think you'd really have a reason to go above a Cobra anyway. Maybe an Asp would make a good gunboat, I don't know.

Speaking of which, I spent tonight working out my ideal Asp loadout. If I want light weight (good for exploring) it'll be 4.8 million and weigh just under 400T (which is ideal because the FSD and thruster optimum mass is 700T), if I want more combat capability (heavier armour, better everything) it's going to be... Well, probably getting on for 10 million. I hope they intended for outfits to sell at 100% of their value because I'm probably going to be doing this incrementally or else I might actually die of boredom.

I might see what it'd cost to have grade A everything. Considering it has a mix of class 4 and 5 components that's going to be pretty expensive, like over 15 million for the power plant, thrusters and FSD alone expensive...

The parts sell for the same price as the buy price. So as long as you sell at the same place you brought from you won't lose money
What's your commander name.

I know, I was saying I hope that's not a bug that they plan to fix because I don't want to have to choose between upgrading slowly while losing money with each upgrade or hoarding all the cash for each upgrade to do them without wasting anything. With the 100% refund I can upgrade slowly, i.e. from E to D to C to B to A (rather than save up >5 million and go straight from E to A), and not waste any money doing so.

I'm CMDR neema_t.

Lucky for you it's not a bug it's was done to prevent people making money of buying equipment for their ship

Thought I would bring this thread back to life as I want to ask some opinions on it. I have had one but want more.

I know there is an expansion in December time and due to their weird pricing it will be a lot cheaper to get the whole lot then so I can't even play right now even if I wanted to.

Why can't you play now? What expansion do you mean? I thought the Horizons expansion was to be released soon or ??

Bought this game in April and haven't really played it.. Did the tutorials and never started it up again since it was a little overwhelming... Last three days I'm reading some FAQ's and 'How to get started' things, need to try this again soon :)

I do mean Horizons.
Saying I can't play now is another way of saying buying it now is just stupid. The pricing system is strange. I can either buy it now and pick up Horizons with a £10 discount or I can just wait and get the game and Horizons together for £40.

Or I could blow £130 now and have the game now and all the additions ever made. To make it worth it though I would need to see 3 expansions priced the same on top of Horizons for me to make a saving.

I agree, kinda. Though there is this:
For a limited time all existing Elite: Dangerous players will receive a £10 loyalty discount plus the exclusive Cobra Mark IV ship when ordering the Elite Dangerous: Horizons through the Frontier Store. Discount will be automatically applied at checkout. The Cobra Mark IV will be added to your account when Elite Dangerous: Horizons Lands.

I'm guessing you don't get the Cobra when you buy after the release.

There is that. I am not spending an extra £20 on 1 ship though.

Yeah I don't feel like it either. On the Horizons trailer you can see some kind of car coming out of the ship (is that the new Cobra?), do you get that car for free also with the new ship? Is it just a part of the update so every ship gets updated with a deployable car or do you need to buy it separately?

Nope the car is separate. It is part of the planetary landings stuff so you can land, get in the car and drive with no limits. The car is for everyone who buys Horizons. You buy it separately with in game currency and place it in your cargo hold.

The Cobra mk4 is an upgraded version of the Cobra mk3 already in the game.

You might, it's most likely a Frontier store exclusive because they don't need to pay a commission on anything they sell through their own store, sales through Steam mean they don't get 100% of the profit because of Valve's cut. It may not be a preorders-only deal because they've got a good incentive to have Frontier store exclusive content like the Cobra.

Hey everyone. Just picked this game up on steam. Just the regular version. Needed a game to fill the void while waiting for No Man's Sky or Star Citizen to come further along and steam had an offer I couldn't refuse on this. Doesn't seem very active here. Any of you still play? I'm a few missions out from finally upgrading out of the sidewinder, and just took a 50+ jump journey to Codeo to be in the system of the erm... Empirous?... I've aligned with.

This game is currently on sale on the Xbox One under their Countdown list, looks interesting. I haven't tried a space exploration game (in this sort of vein) before, closest I can think of is Mass Effect (which I really enjoyed).

I'll keep my eye on this one, might be something I would like especially when the Horizons expansion hits consoles adding planetary landings and exploration. Might be a nice substitute for No Man's Sky on Xbox One.

To be fair unless you get horizons its only fun for the 1st 100hrs then you run out of things to do and it get grindy.
i might get horizon at some point in the future though.

I've been playing it since the initial release (I backed it on Kickstarter) although for a while I didn't play it much. Over the Christmas holidays, with Horizons just released, I got into it again and am loving it - particularly with an Oculus Rift DK2. :-)

I stopped playing around May, I think, because the one thing I enjoyed doing appeared to be nerfed significantly; I used to fly around RESs to find pirates to kill, in a good hour with a KWS you could make a couple of million quite easily... Then they added RES intensity levels and even in high intensity sites all I could find were tiny ships worth barely anything unlike the Anacondas, Clippers and Pythons I used to hunt. So I stopped!

Then I moved and couldn't bring my HOTAS with me so I have to find a usable control method before I get back into it. Pad controls are good but there aren't enough buttons, sadly.

I was flying around a RES area yesterday and made 1.3 mill in less than an hour. Plenty of 100k+ bounties were had. several over 300K. Saw lots of Anacondas and pythons and others. A good time was had and I'll hopefully get more today. Wanna get out of the Eagle before heading out to do faction business and begin fighting for the Federation.

@Rallywagon interesting, I used to quite enjoy playing Space Police in my Fer de Lance and Vulture, the former is a great ship but the space brakes aren't quite good enough for RES combat... Ask me how I know! The Vulture is more than enough ship for Anaconda poaching, just as long as you don't get a mafia hit squad gunning for you while you're already engaged. I lurked around one RES for long enough for that to start happening, it's fine at first because two Sidewinders and an Adder don't hurt much but when you start getting a Python and a couple of Cobras they do get a little... Annoying.

Spent the evening attaching some LEDs to my headset and tooling around with Freetrack and FaceTrackNoIR.
Haven't got the "IR" portion of it quite ironed out yet, but the face tracking didn't do too bad. I was expecting more jitter. Even better, its a great way to play the game. If you have a PC and a web cam I highly recommend this. I think I may fire up War Thunder and try it out there too.
Oh, right, did I mention they are free?

I'm certainly looking forward to it on PS4. Is there a flight stick that works on PS4?

Anyone know how long the Xbox One exclusivity lasts?

Given the game release was last October, I am going to guess they exclusivity deal will last until this October.

So, I got my IR tacker working. Using open track, and despite all I've read online, its the best of the three main open source IR software. It was the only one I got working at that. If you are on the PC I very highly recommend watching a few YouTube videos and making your own. Its easy, cheap and really effective. Do it... Do it now.
That said, I've really been enjoying this game. I was trading for a short time, but have moved to bounty hunting. Good pay and good fun. Today though, I start in the CQC championship. I've been watching some gameplay and tip videos. I'm ready! I hope....

I am so not ready..... Flying without assists is going to take way more time than anticipated.
