Screen legend Elizabeth Taylor has passed away in Los Angeles at the age of 79, her publicist confirmed earlier today (23rd March).
The Oscar-winning star was being treated for symptoms relating to congestive heart failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre after being rushed to hospital from her Bel Air home in February, and is understood to have died peacefully in her private room surrounded by children Michael Wilding, Christopher Wilding, Liz Todd and Maria Burton.
My mother was an extraordinary woman who lived life to the fullest, with great passion, humour, and love, Michael later said, adding: We know, quite simply, that the world is better place for Mom having lived in it.
According to sources the actress will be buried in a plot close to her parents at Westwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles the final resting place for a hot of stars including Walter Matthau, Natalie Wood, Farah Fawcett and Marilyn Monroe.
Though she had recently suffered a number of complications, her condition had stabilized and it was hoped that she would be able to return home, said her publicist. Sadly, this was not to be.
At the peak of her acting career, eight-times married Elizabeth scooped two Best Actress Academy Awards for her roles in Butterfield 8 and Whos Afraid of Virginia Woolf? in which she starred alongside Richard Burton, who she married twice.
She is survived by her four children, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
